A wonderful revelations and experience with pregnant details to tell our children and children's children.
Rachel Nancollas
Really powerful exhibit. Very thoughtfully built museum. I learned a lot. We spent 3 hours there, but you could easily spend 6. Highly recommend.
Malcolm Hamilton
Do not miss this museum! We stayed until close and still had two more floors to go. All of the exhibits are beautifully done and there are areas for reflection. We will definitely be back.
Rose Nieves
Amazing experience! Looking forward to my next visit 😊
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
You have to request for free timed-entry passes via their website. Same-day passes are available for request starting at 6:30 AM. We woke up at 6:30 AM and easily got the 10:30 AM entry passes. You can only show up on or after the time you chose, otherwise you will be refused entry. You can stay for as long as you want after getting in.
Tickets are free, but the general public must reserve them in advance. As a Vet you can use your ID as a ticket, and go at anytime. That is the only real difference.
All veteran with government issued ID
Photos are allows everywhere except for the Emmett Till exhibit at the request of the family.
You need to go online and you get your tickets that way you can give them all for same time or different times anyway it goes that's the only way to get tickets peace
Tours are self-guided unless you have special arrangements with the museum.
Does that include babies is there an age limit?
The patio on 14th & Madison st NW where you will enter the museum. It's an out door eating spot.
For what I know so far, the museum will be open Sunday and Monday.
You could go to the walk-up window at 1 p.m. each day and get them.
No we are unable to physically assist you. We do have plenty of seating and manual push-wheelchairs available for your convenience.
Yes. But if you are a guest of and attending with active or former military personnel, there's a special entrance where there is little or no waiting. Military ID or DD214 required.
No coat check. But they do have lockers. The require a quarter but get it back when you get you items out.
Call the museum.
It's free for everyone but you must get a timed entry pass through the website.
Yes, it's free to everyone. You'll need to reserve your ticket or tickets in advance through the website.
On the street
We went two weeks ago. Strollers everywhere. It didn't seem to be a problem.
Yes. They have lockers if you need to store it. They do ask that if you have a backpack you wear it in the front instead of on your back in the art exhibits
I believe all of the video showing are from the Smithsonian Channel, you may start by googling there.
yes the only place no cameras are allowed is for the Emmitt Till memorial
Find a spot alongside road on Pa. Ave. 3 hour parking and download parking app.
Yes, military veterans and law enforcement receive priority entry. I believe ID may be requested.
Yes, and I don't think you can go wrong with anything you eat..
The museum is free always. You need to have a pass to get in at the opening time 10am which you can get online from their site. You can show up after 1pm and its first come first serve depending on occupancy
Most likely yes. The later it is in the day, the more space they have
In terms of mobility, there are elevators and ramps throughout, and the building is brand new so it is entirely ADA compliant. Interactive exhibits have controls low enough for people in wheelchairs to access.
Good Question. As stated before it's possible that they may have one in the Gift shop. Only place that you need money in there is the gift shop and cafeteria
Yes, museum is open 7 days a week, except Dec 25.
Peak season (Mar - Aug) requires a ticket, but walk up available M - F from 1pm to close.
I was able to get in immediately as a walk up. First responders, medical personnel, and military can skip the line of there is one.
Yes, veterans do not need a reservation. Bring some form of military identification I would download their app they have because it will answer more of your questions. Thank you for your service
Did you get yours? We had to purchase ours
What is phone number to National Museum of African American History
Yes but get an ticket online for free in the morning like 6:30am.
Download parking for national museum, find parking that close so it will be less walking
Yes and you go to the front of the line with one guess. Make sure you have your ID.
Try going online at 6:30 am the day you want to go. Be ready to log in exactly at 6:30. The tickets go fast. We scrolled down to 1:30 and got them. I would try doing that.
Yes you can but they will check your bag.... Hope you like it!!
All the museums are free in DC national mall. If someone charges you for them its a scam. You can reserve tickets 2 months in advance the 1st Wednesday of every month. Same day tickets can be reserved 6:30 am online Monday-Friday and walk up tickets Monday-Friday you have to get on the line early for and they let you in at 1pm on a first come first served basis. Go to the website for all the info or call museum directly. I went a week ago with same day ticket. It's a wonderful museum, Enjoy!!
Yes, just show your military ID at the entrance. You're allowed to bring a guest with you also.
No, just show up. Can bring one or two guest with you. First responders and active duty get the same consideration
There is street parking in the area, but it's scarce. There's garage parking also.
They don't have onsite parking. There is street parking however there are a kot of food trucks and other vendors around the blocks
Still haven't heard anything from the local government
It depends on the date, however each person can register for up to six. I registered the night before my visit.
I am not sure, I went some time ago. You had to purchase online at that time.
Groups are required to have passes every day during peak and off-peak seasons.
No tix are required during low season, which I believe is until late March. But I would confirm by checking out their website.
It has black inventors but it doesn't just highlight them because there's a lot people and content that they cover.
Right now it's the off season and tickets are only needed on the weekends thru March
no... once you enter you will not be allowed to come back out. if your a smoker make sure it's a fabulous day to be out doors
Yes. Timed entries during the off season are for the weekends
I believe if you go after 1 p.m.you can get a pass when you walk in. When I went, even though I couldn't get a pass online, it was very easy to get a pass in the afternoon.
I don't think that is a problem. Photography is only prohibited in certain exhibits in the museum. Other than that photograph to your heart's content
There is not usually any general admission but there is no cost. You can reserve an admission pass on their site on line
Dress in several thin layers that are easy to carry as you will be indoors for much of the exhibit yet will encounter freezing temperatures walking to and from parking spaces - which can be several blocks from the Museums at times. If you are not from a cold climate, then D.C. in the winter can feel like visiting the North Pole. Enjoy! 💂❄🌲⛄😄
We went on a Saturday I believe my wife went online and requested tickets they were free
I think u can ask for one but I mostly seen people with they own wheelchairs
Always free. Sept.- Feb. is Off peak season. During week days ( Mon-Fri.) No passes required. Passes required on weekends. Peak season March-August passes required at all times. They can be requested in advance or there is a process for same day visitation. Check those requirements on NMAAHC website. Enjoy the experience
The website will tell you what month it will be available for you to get the tickets and they do walk in and all this is free website or walk in
I know there is a line for Military and Staff. Free admission either way.
I believe so. Also after 1:00 you don't need tickets to get in.
Yes. Nurse, military, and police I believe teachers and firefighters, but u have to show id
No I didn't have a ticket it was free the line's are long in the morning but in the afternoon the line was pretty fast.
M-F they accept walk ins after 1pm. Admission is free.
No. Need a pass on Saturday & Sunday. No pass after 1p on the weekdays. If you are military or a veteran, u can skip the long line
Yes you need a timed entry pass
You don't need a pass at all if you enter after 1 pm on weekdays. Not sure about other times though. Check the website.
You will need a pass for the weekend...walk-in times apply only for weekdays after 1 PM. The passes are difficult to obtain...check the museum's website for more info.
Check website for more details. There is a wait list for entry. Some tickets go on sale for same day at 630am each day.
Yes, they are fairly strict because crowds are quite large. I dont think you have to be there exactly on time but don't be too late.
Metro Center station or Smithsonian station. They are both about the same distance
Adding to Crystal's answer, you may need to get 2 tickets and someone else in your party get 2 tickets. Hit the website at 6:30 or as early as possible that morning. Good luck!
1 guest permitted person
Go online at 6:30 am and click on the same day pass link to obtain tickets. Once you get your confirmation via email, it will tell you what time you can arrive. You can go any time after that time untill they close at 5:30pm.
Lining up outside the museum at 11am is the best way to get a ticket. They start giving out tickets at the door at around 1pm. I have been there twice at 12:15pm and still managed to get tickets after a long wait but by the time we got in, the museum was overflowing already. So get in line early is the key.
No. As noted above, all the Smithsonian museums are closed 😢
You can't
African Americans represented 74 percent of the individuals who gave $1 million or more. Too many to name and many anonymous donations as well, Oprah, Will Smith Stevie Wonder.... the list goes on and on.
I did hear that in January the process might change to sonething like free first-come entry during the week
I actually didnt get tickets. I went during the week..middle of the day and it was fine! I highly recommend!
If you miss the daily online tickets then go down there and get in line at 11:30/12:00 for the 1:00pm walk-in tickets. There will be a line so get there early. They are very limited. Good luck.
Sure. But I recommend getting tickets in advance because it is a very popular museum.
No reservations needed for the entire month of September. They have yet to decide if this will be permanent or if they will return to the reservation system after September. I was there last week. We arrived at about 5 minutes to 10 am both days. There were probably 200 people ahead of us each day. When the doors opened promptly at 10, we went right in.
The museum is fully functional and open.
It may take 2 visits because it is so much to see. We didn't get to see everything, but we were there for 3 hours.
The museum is doing a trial run, no passes for the month of September. You must have 9 people or less. Not sure what else
There is but they didn't answer it
No tickets or passes needed for Mon-Fri.
It's a very interesting and important part of our American history
Find someone with a military ID who they let right in and all their guests
If you have someone helping you with the wheelchair, you should be ok.
We started last year and kept in contact because we went as a church group for 105 passes So give them a call and have a date in mind
You can find inns or motels right off 95 for a small rate and the museum is 25 min away and parking curb side is 5 for 3-4 hours plus parking garage across the street from the museum is $15-20
For the month of September only, the museum is allowing all patrons to enter with no timed entry passes. The catch is however that this is only for during the week. They will still require timed entry passes on weekends. This is for the month of September only.
Yes military get in with no ticket. Just show your iD. It's a free museum but everyone else needs a ticket
You can get tickets online about 2 months in advance also and also .military or veterans with some id can get in right away
People do it but the line is long long. I would call first n talk to customer service
Tickets are released every morning at 6:30am for the current day. You should be able to get a ticket if you're online right at 630a. Check the "Visit" tab on the museum's official page
Either street parking (mostly metered) or there are parking lots a few blocks away.
Please Be Advise., There's no waiting in line for tickets so don't waste your time. Be advise you "must" call the Facility or go on line for tickets. As I stated before in my last review comments whenever you are in doubt pick up your phone and call the facility stop guessing.
Yes, but it's a free ticket you can get on-line or by going to the museum to see if there v are any open spots left. It is a very popular museum so tickets are not always available. Look the museum up on Google and it will explain the process.
No
No...but you must get a ticket...either in advance or at 6:30 am online for the day of your visit. Also there is a line Monday thru Friday around 1 pm for walk-ins. Sometimes the museum will designate Wednesdays a ticket free day
Only 1, you cannot take pictures of Emmett Till Casket. Out of Respect for the family.
As far as information about ticket I can't really help you because I'm a veteran and Veterans don't need a ticket they just need a veteran ID and they're allowed to take one guest with them and they don't have to wait in line either they go to the front of the line my only suggestion to you is to call the museum they will give you the proper information
Go to security deck off of Madison Dr and ask for a wheelchair.
Yes. But very limited. Get there 30 minutes before this museum opens to get a spot. Because it is way way worth it.
Same day timed tickets go on sale at 6:30 a.m. daily via the museum website. They sell out in minutes.
Check online early at 630a
Any I.D. works to get a ticket.
I was just there on Thursday the 29th. I believe that the museum is going to try walk in just on Wednesday, at least in April. Before they had walk in at 1pm every weekday. Go to their website to confirm.
Ah man, I didn't make it to the second floor yet.
On the weekends you need tickets, walk-in admission is on the weekdays. They have more information on how to obtain tickets and hours of operation on their website. 😁
I am not sure about that. You would have to contact the management regarding this matter.
If you are feeling lucky you can turn up @1.00pm and get in line without a ticket and you may get in. Or go online at 6.30 am on the day you are in DC and book a ticket for the available time slots you either print the timed ticket or show the ticket from your smart phone when you show on time to the museum entrance.. It's easy and it's free
All day
Same day passes are available Monday to Friday online at 6 am and in person at 1 pm. Line up about Noon for 1 pm passes. Military, law enforcement, first responders just show id and do need passes. They are allowed to bring a guest. I believe the advanced passes for April are gone. The just distributed passes for May this past Wednesday.
It's a must see. Presale tickets aren't available for months, but if you wait in line on a weekday beginning about noon, you'll probably get in. The line starts moving a little after 1pm.
You have to contact the email on the homepage
You can obtain the passes in the Web, but 15 minutes before opening, they have few on front of the main door next to the fountain.
Google hotels near the National Museum of African American History and Culture
Tickets are available everyday from 10am to 4pm
Hotel it will be in downtown have a lot of them between 5 to 6 block depending about your budget Trains station union Station is 2 miles from the musuem
Go to website after 8:15 the morning of the day you plan to visit an reserve them
The museum hasn't open yet . And tickets will be issued daily for free.
At this point I haven't heard anything from the local government.
Try the website.
Call or check the website or Smithsonian museums.
Possibly in the summer, no definite date has been announced yet.
You may want to contact the Museum's director to inquire about the matter. They should be able to point you in the right direction as a part of the National Smithsonian affiliation
Call the museum and ask them and tell them what works you are speaking of. They should have the info.
Not, sure...you can call or go to website for more info
I would try calling.
It looks like it will be opened from 11am to 4pm Thanksgiving Day. You should try to sign up for "free" the passes as soon as possible, some museums are popular.
Go to the Smithsonian National Museums, select which museum that you want to visit. Then it will show you the available dates. I hope this helps. Its a great time to go to the museum, few people. You will need a ticket for each person and they are FREE
Well when I went one of the people in my group didn't have a ticket and they were able to get a ticket the day of. You just have to go through the site and check. That's what one of the people that work the museum told us to do and they like 30 tickets available at the time we went. They sometimes people cancel which provides availability for to be able to come.
Call the museum and see if they want art donations. Their art is part of a story and has historical or cultural relevance. So call and see what they need.
Dec. 20th hours begin 11am-4pm Dec.21-22 it's closed
Knot sure sorry
Hi you can email them on website or call customer service
Be advised that u have to go online 6am in the morning to try & get passes.
Call the museum, they normally are very accommodating.
Have you tried emailing them directly? Calling their service line and asked who to communicate with regarding what you want? Have you Googled those names and searched throughout all the options for all that you want?
Its better for you to call them directly or even email them. 8 )
Great question. I would call and send them an email.
I would send them directly an email on how you want to volunteer.
Talking to sale tickets person at office
Weekdays you can come in without a pass but not before 1pm
The museum does not require ID to enter, however as LaShandra mentioned you do need a pass to enter on weekends but do not require one during the week. They are going into their busy season so obtaining timed weekend passes online will become more difficult. If you're an early bird, the ticket office gives out timed entry passes if you arrive by 9am but the entry passes may not be until later in the day.
You may want to ask first if they would make exceptions. Since you are bringing students.
You can get them on the website for the museum. They will also show you how at the front door. Tickets are digital only and they are for every half hour. I got mine same day, no hassle.
Hi Vanessa, there's the W hotel, which is the Washington hotel, and several Hilton's in the downtown area. We stayed at the Homewood suites in Springfield. The rooms and service is spectacular!!! Thry have shuttle to take you to and from the Metro station, which will take you to downtown. About a 30 min train ride. The hotel for the week was 320.00. Hope this helps.
Tickets are free. Sometimes it is possible to walk in-- don't take any chances. I would get the tickets as advised; you will be better off. Timing is everything.
Off Peak is September to February Peak is March to August
It shouldn't be a problem on Friday...if you'd like to get your tickets online that's always a option.
Actually, tickets are no longer required. We went just this past Saturday. Military ID holders get preferential entry.
We just took a group of students last week. Our Group Leader called and made a reservation ahead of time. When we arrived at the front entrance, he told the employees at the door that we had a reservation and we were escorted in immediately. Good luck!
Not sure email them or call
Food is pricey. Southern greens were too salty. My lunch was 32 dollars.
No! It was just like going through the TSA line at the Airport... I went on the 31st December, 2019. I walked into the museum, entered the line, and went through the check line... I did not need to produce any form of ID or Pass.
Off season visitation allows easy access and no ticket requirement
Great question. My experience visiting this museum, it's one of the busiest on the mall. I take family and friends there often. I always like to get 15 - 30 minutes early to beat the crowds.
I think you will need to bring your own as I have seen people using both. But not sure about rental of such
They should be open that day. You can jus walk in now, no passes needed
Mary Hartman, no exceptions. Federal building.
I wish he was but no
It's always free, you have to reserve in the page of the museum depending the month.
No
I am not sure but you can go to their website to find out. Just Google African American Museum in Washington, D.C. I hope this helps you.
It was moderately crowded this past weekend, but not too bad. I would guess it would be extremely busy, difficult to get tickets on MLK weekend. You might have to reserve tickets now.
Yes metro rail line blue to the airport at Smithsonian station are all the museum close.
Admission to the museum is free for everyone.
You need passes for the weekend. Have to go to website and register for the time you want to visit. If not during the week you can just walk there
7 floors. 3 historic below ground, the entry level, and 3 levels above with more interactive exhibits.
U get the ticket online
The Museum is free. You would need to go onto the website and get group information. I do know during the Summer is there peak season
Off-Peak Season (September-February) Walk-Up Weekday entry begins at 10 am Monday through Friday. You can also try day pass by going to this https://www.etix.com/ticket/v/11570/national-museum-of-african-american-history-culture-same-day?displayType=list
Yes, just get in the military line.
He initially wrote that blacks have equal right in a draft on the Constitution... But was taken out for the final draft ...
I really don't know mam
All days are free for all of the Smithsonian museums
I'm not sure there are a lot of law enforcement officers on site, and there may be a number to call which can address your concerns prior to entering there are agents out front who work for allied security they could definitely help.
Yes... if you wait until after 12pm you can usually get in and avoid the lines.
It is but the hours may vary
Request a ticket at 6:30 am on day of visit
Tickets are free. If you go after 1pm weekdays, you will not need a pass. That is was I did. Entrance is free.
If you or a family member are military, no ticket is required and you can probably get in. So many people are 'no-shows' that if you are only one or two people, you can probably get in. Go early, let everybody in line know you are looking for tickets.
The Intercontinental Willard had reasonable rates the weekend I was there and it's only half mile walk from the Museum.
Call before you go
We stayed about 20 mins away at the Wyndham resort in the National Harbor. Lots of great places to eat there.
FYI online pass are three / four months in advance. Just went to Smithsonian Museum Washingtonian D.C. this month. After 1 P.M. still had fun
Additionally, daily passes are also released online on the half hour starting at 9:30am. The link listed https://nmaahc.si.edu/visit/passes takes you directly to the page where you can access the sameday online passes link
Free. But you need to get tickets online for Saturday and Sunday
Cafeteria had options such as fried chicken, collard greens, mac and cheese. They also had BBQ options, kid friendly menu, fountain drinks, alcohol choices, bottled soda/water, and desserts. Dining room is "first come first serve" and was very clean. Ensure you get all of your items like napkins, salt and pepper, hot sauces, etc. Remember the food is pretty good but under seasoned because they are serving for the masses.
I got the timed passes at 6:30am and 2 extra at 9:30. But 1pm they weren't needed.
You need a pass before 1pm Monday-Friday and weekends. You can get that on their website nmaahc.si.edu You do not need a pass Monday-Friday after 1pm.
Marjorie is correct, but we walked up at 10:30 and got right in. Short line.
Hello! You would have to make a reservation for each day. Access is permitted on a first come first serve basis.
Just call the front office number and I'm sure they'll be glad to be of help
Yes wheelchairs are available however it is on a first-come first-serve basis. The Smithsonian museums have a wheelchair program to assist as well. Select the link - www.nmaahc.si.edu and click on Accessibility at the bottom of the home page for more information.
There is a public free parking about two blocks away its a nice walk 1200 c street
i am sure you can find place to patk. you just need to pay higher cost.
No!! Its very hard for online tickets.
William....there are several ways: During peak season, you have to go to their website and get timed entry tickets before going. They usually book up about 3 months in advance. At 6:30am every day they release more daily tickets, but they get booked within 5 minutes or less. They release another batch around 9:30. During non peak season, I believe the process is the same, except they also have walk up tickets available from 1pm onward. I hope that helps!
First two hours 20.00 after that it goes up 5 dollars then top off at 35.00 for the day
There is a 3hr limit for meter parking. $2/hr. I dont know about weelchair.
No flash on cameras, no liquids except water, and bags are subjected to be checked. Also no playing around ( so please keep eye on children)
It's free all you have to do is que up but groups I think need to purchase tickets if you want a guided tour, singularly I never payed as it is a Smithsonian
The Museum is free as far as I know. I believe that Military & Vets have the privilege of not having to wait in lines that can become longer as the day progresses.
No one is actually credited as a founder but it's a Smithsonian museum.
Do also check online with Airbnb. They're a few located in the capital near the mall as countless hotels with reasonable rates 😄.
We parked in the Ronald Reagan building & it was a 5 minute walk to the museum. (Paid parking)
Coming from Baltimore, we always park for free at a Metro station in New Carrolton and ride everywhere.
You don't have to be in line at your ticket time. You can go in anytime after it, but getting in line about 10-15 minutes prior is fine. They wave you right through to the security checkpoint pretty quickly.
Most of the time they are sold out for the day and you have to get tickets in advance.
No security check is mandatory
Thwre is parking but its tricky. On certain streets you have to move before 4pm or you WILL get a $50 ticket. Just about all the a parking is metered for either 2 or 4 hours at about $3/hr. The parking garages are even worse.
Do it over again. I booked same day and my email confirmation came thru in minutes.
Yes. Since the entry is time-slotted, your individual tickets may end up for different times. If you want to go as a group, use the group ticketing.
Get tickets online!
We got our passes online. I am not certain if you can
You can buy tickets on your visiting day or you can walk in after 1.30pm
Don't bring to much there's allot to see
I would request for the morning because it can get quite crowded in the afternoon
I actually walked in without tickets later in the afternoon, when the traffic is much lighter
I think they hand them out at a certain time. But, I'm not really sure. We just walked right in without anything.
They issue same day passes (for entry before 1pm) starting at 6:30am each day. After 1pm no need for passes.
Admission to african american museum
No sure, check their website....
On the website it says closed December 25. Contact the actual museum for the full hours that day.
I went through the agency who handled my groups entire DC weekend. If you're using a booking agent, I would ask them to check on it for you.
Yes
No... EMT would be first responders
You can just show up and stand in line to get in
Limited street parking or find a garage but none are close enough to walk. I took the Marc train from Baltimore a rode the subway. It was easy.
It depends on how late you are, if it's only a few minutes they won't care. But if you're talking an hour or so then you may be in trouble.
Yes
Yes
They do not offer the pass on weekends. You just go and wait in line to get in.
I think so. It is open until 17:30. you should go in time because it is big and needs about 4 hours to see it well.
a
Veterans get preference
It's still so new they are trying to keep capacity under limits for fire codes most likely.
You go to the portrait museum most likely... Not the AA museum. They may have some in the gift shop?
When you get there, it is an information desk.
They want you to be there at the time but they will still let you in if you are late.. plus the lines are usually long and it takes time to get in anyway..at least when I was there and when I left too
Smithsonian
It depends on the day and the crowd visiting on each day. But I had a 10am appointment and got there for 12 noon and I still got in
Also you can use parkwhiz that is located on their website. I think we paid $12.95 using parkwhiz.
On their website long in advance or on the day you want to attend (be on the website at 6am to grab tickets, they go fast)
There are wheelchairs!
Tomorrow the 4th, you can go for same day tickets if they have any available since it is limited for walk ups. They open at 10am but I suggest getting there before that since there will likely be a line. No walk ups on the weekends. Sat and Sun you must have a dated and timed ticket to enter.
Yes you can but you can also try to get same day tickets on first come first served basis Monday- Friday only(I would suggest getting there when it opens at 10am as it tends to get very crowded). You must have a ticket on Saturdays and Sundays.
They still have to stand in the line like everyone else and go through the metal detectors basically it all applies to them too
No rentals
From web page: The History Galleries are comprised of ramps, which are more than a mile in length. For visitors with limited mobility, we offer a limited number of manual wheelchairs to make navigating the ramps less challenging.
Outside food is not allowed. If you want to pack a lunch it is best to eat before you go in. There is a cafeteria with good food but it can be pricey.
Showed up at 3pm on a Tuesday and there was a five minute wait. Museum takes a while though. Ended up closing the place and still didn't finish reading everything.
Or you can just wait in line like we did on Good friday 2019. We had about 200 people ahead of us and we were in line for 15mins.
One
DCA is in DC. All museums are accessible via Metro Rail from the airport. Dulles (IAD) is in VA, miles away.
The guided tours are within the time frame and you can select, based on the times you pick.
I went on Sunday with my family and there was no line. If you're military or Law enforcement, there is a dedicated line, as well.
You will need to contact the museum. The tickets are free.
Go to the website for the African American Museum. Click plan visit. It will tell you when to get online to try to get tickets.
No, Across The Street from the White House " The Corner of 1400 Constitution Ave NW... IF You go make sure you get your pass on line, and be ready you going to see a lot There's is so much to see and exploring " IT Is BIG You will be in There About 2 to till 3 hours, I Hope You and your family, or friends Go And Have A Good Time....
Hi George it was my first time visiting and someone else had tickets. We didn't use them because ON WEEKDAYS AFTER 1pm IT'S FREE UNTIL CLOSED!! 😀
Go to their website or call the museum. They do have walk in days but those are usually for Mons or Tues, check before you go.
There is no cost unless you are going through a tour group. You can get passes on the first Wednesday of every month or get day of tickets by going on the official website. Your best bet is as a walk up on Friday after 1 p.m. That's plenty of time to see the museum.
The Museum is open freely to all including veterans.
Because after 1:00pm it is walk in service. So people without tickets have an opportunity to get in until the museum closes.
My wife woke up to get our same day tickets at 630am EST and the earliest tickets we were able to get was 1130. They open at 10am though.
Veterans allowed but not sure what you mean any-time. Time time or a actual date. If you mean time it's free for all but buying a pass gets you in at a earlier time. You will have to call and ask if veterans are exceptions to also get anytime access without paying for a pass.
Yes!
No nerd to buy on line if you go past 1pm. The crowd, however, is pretty heavy in the afternoon, making the visit less enjoyable
Hi Kim! Their website mentions tickets being released online at 6:30am for same day passes as well as being able to do a "walk up" after 1pm Mondays-Fridays to purchase tickets. No walk ups on weekends. I wish I had additional information for you but I hope that helped a bit.
It's all free!! The entrance is free. the admission to the exhibits are free. they have a restaurant that serves all kinds of food and of course you have to pay for your meal
While I worked there, it was timed passes, at 30 min intervals, you needed to get inside. After 1 PM, they would let walk-ins inside. Now, there's just separate lines for passes and non pass holders. Tickets went on sale on the NMAAHC website, but usually 2-3 months in advancement. For example, they are selling June passes soon.
Call the musuem ahead. Also do you have a receipt.
They let you in any time after your entry ticket time. But if the museum is at maximum capacity regardless of your entry time, you'll still have to wait.
Sorry I do not know that answer.
Federal Triangle
Oh yeah. Anything in DC will be packed for Memorial Day weekend even the local McDonald's. Advance Passes are required each weekend regardless of holiday. Advanced timed entry passes are released monthly on the first Wednesday at 9am. So check the website for those at that time. If you end up in a pinch same day timed passes are available at 6am that day which you can only get online through the website as well.
They are free anyway but you just need to get a ticket on a same day pass
You can put in a request through their website or do walk-up tickets and see what is available the day of.
I'm not sure but the front desk should be able to help
I purchased on the day. Early in the morning
I am sorry but I can't answer that question. You may want to give them a call.
Advise you contact Smithsonian museum directly for that question
Parking garages a few blocks away. Limited meter parking nearby on the street. Best bet to take Subway or bus.
To the museum? It's not limited
Passes (tickets) are available online https://nmaahc.si.edu/visit/passes If you would like to forgo the need for tickets, go on a weekday
It is sad, I was just there and they did an excellent job. Let's hope our government does the same
You can not get advanced tickets.
You don't need tickets on the off-season and can just walk-in. If your going during the in season, you will need to get daily passes online at their website
When I went (in February), it was after 11 a.m. on a Wednesday and there was no line, I walked right into the museum. I also found out that tickets are not necessary for the months of January and February. If you are planning on visiting the museum after February, you may want to get there no later than 8:30 /9 a.m.
No you don't always need a ticket. They have walk up days. So all month during January and February you can literally just walk in I did it last week, there wasn't a line or anything. Check the website the months for walk up days change.
We were staying in Delaware and traveled by train to get the experience.
You can go online and buy them and they're open most days
You can't request tickets in advance. On Feb. 21 at 6 AM, you have to be on the website and request them. The tickets go really fast! Or: At 1:00 PM you can walk up/stand in line at the door to get in on Feb. 21.
Hi Nancy! Both times I've visited here, I was able to get the "walk-up tickets". Please forgive me as I'm not certain if I'm using the correct terminology, but I basically went there during the week the first time and they scanned a ticket and allowed me to walk in. This past Sunday, I was able to walk in and they just scanned my purse for safety measures. There is no drink/food allowed in. Since you're planning to go during week, you should be able to get a "walk-in" ticket. It's very difficult to get tickets online. I would also suggest getting there at least by 1pm.
Most likely
How many hrs do you suggest for tour
Call them.
That's incorrect. They release them every few months. Also keep in mind that that is for a specific time slot. Right now, you can walk up at 1 PM and most likely walk in. That gives you a little over 4 hours of time before closing.
i went with my church group for the weekend tickets were included in the package
Good Day...Often time you will need to try for tickets the same day you would like to visit the museum. Actually, this may be ur only chance. The museum usually give a select few of tickets on the same day
I went last March and we didn't need a pass. Hope to go again this April.
Visit the website and follow the instructions for group access.
to be safe, I would call and check. Get their expertise and see if they have an availability chart on hand
I honestly cant say no the museum is huge and has so much. I do know Dr.Jeffersons story or atleast what I've read and I dont remember seeing anything about her in the museum but I can say for sure.
Yes. Go to their website for the schedule and get your tickets for the time you want to go. It takes several hours to view all the floors and there a lunch area so you won't have to leave for lunch.
Please go to the museum site and read carefully. They dont require timed tickets for weekDAYS for January through March. You will need for holidays and weekends. First Wednesday of every month at 9 am, window opens for timed tickets, which means TOMORROW MORNING. However with this shutdown, it all may have changed.
we did it in 2hrs,but we couldn't really read everything,so i suggest going early and staying for about 4-5hrs if you want to enjoy your visit and learn about our history fully, its a big museum and you gonna need alot of time
It's all done through their website
Smithsonian museums are closed due to government shutdown.
You'll have2 go online & check the rules. My understanding is tickets R available only online.c
Yes unfortunately since yesterday
I didn't come across Story Corps Reading Room that I recall? There were lots of videos and screenings perhaps that may be similar but nothing our docent specifically called ..Story Corps Reading Room..however there is so much in this space that it just may be something that was not mentioned as a lot of things were
I walked right in last week in the morning with now pass. Passes are no longer needed but I suggest going earlier because the line can get long as they limit the amount of people that can enter
Entry to the museum on the same day is based on amount of people in the building when you arrive. If this helps... weekends are busier than weekdays but not so much with the holiday approaching. I hope you all get to enjoy it, its an amazing experience.
No
The museum will be closed starting Jan. 2.
Jacob apparently now you can (I tried for the last two years for this week and this week online opened up in September. We talked to some people who had gone Wednesday with no tickets and the lines were crazy. They came yesterday (earlier) and got in. They open at 10. By the time we left about 2:00...it was MOBBED.. Lines for lines. We really only did the lower three levels...we will do the upper levels another time.
Tickets are required for the African-Amercan museum, but they are free.
My fiance and I went two weeks ago on a Monday, we obtained out tickets online maybe a day or two prior to going. Arrived around 11am tickets were scanned and we began our day.
Yes. The museum is free, and with a military ID you and a guest can enter without getting tickets ahead of time.
No
Most likely to be open...
Why would that Matter
I recommend you check the website for opening and closing time for the holiday weekend
Yes it's possible but lots of people may have the same idea since this is a long weekend. If you chance it, I would get out there before 8am
Huh???
I'm sure they would, I don't remember seeing any!
You will have to contact them about displaying an auctioning your work.
I was there early morning. Entry is on both sides of the building. Lines moved quickly. I am sure they would assist someone in a wheelchair. Staff is very courteous and accommodating.
I think there is wait list of months for tickets though.
I would give them away. There are many that would appreciate it..
I stood In line on a Saturday for 20 minutes and was able to get my daughter and myself in
Honestly, I did not ask. But there are access to wheel chairs. Making a call to the museum could be a great help. Good luck.
Yes, reserve your tickets online. This is a can't miss exhibit!
You can "reserve" tickets online or you can just show up. During summer months you need to pre-order and reserve time slot
Not sure. I would suggest you give them a call directly to find out.
No
No policy. Just ask that you keep a close eye on them the Building is huge
All Smithsonian museum's are free. Thus is the newest one yju still have to go online and pro out tickets fir yge free entry.. Ticket ate needed to on Saturday and Sunday only. Monday- Friday walk in
The Ronald Reagan Building in the parking garage on 14th St & Constitution Ave
You have to log on the morning you plan on visiting....they only give them out per day not in advance....so you can't log on today to get tickets for tomorrow
Its free to everyone
Go to the website. Tickets are free just need to go online to register and pick date
Fill out the forms from the website under "Connect" then "Ways to Give" then find the "Donate Collections" section. Or copy this link https://nmaahc.si.edu/donate-item
Yes, it is part of the Smithsonian online store
Visit their website to secure a timed entry pass for a certain month in advance, or check early in the morning for same day tickets, or walk up passes are available during the week.
I would get the max tickets for the day. Not sure if babies need a ticket. If you have extra tickets, people are standing at door asking for the extras.
The lockers are not large enough for suitcases. I recently used Vertoe for our last day in the city - we had to be out of our Airbnb by 11 and our flight wasn't until 1700. There are several locations, mine ended up being at the German American Heritage Museum which was quite close to the Gallery Place Metro stop which ended up being most convenient for our trip back to the airport anyway. The storage areas do fill up, so plan ahead for your optimal location; I had absolutely no issues, but the reviews all said customer service was excellent and refunds prompt if you changed plans. The charge is $5.95/piece of luggage; we were able to squish our "personal items" inside our carry on bags, but you could also use the lockers for those.
Yes -- they are required for ALL visitors.
You can take your chances standing in line, but just go online and reserve your tickets so you can plan your trip ahead.
We got in free. We didn't need tickets.
Walk up with your military ID. You can take 2 guests with you. Same day passes release at 6:30 am online but if you are a veteran you don't need a timed pass just your military ID.
Yes you can. FYI. It appears to be free for all.Tickets were never asked for when our Church group attended in June 2018.
The museum is free to the public. You will need to go to the website to get tickets. If you wait in line, you may not be able to get in.
Check the website. When we were there in September they had a test with no reservation. Just go and queue.
Yes it is, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
I believe its best to check their website
In addition to all submissions here. Either you are physically present or you book online. You have to book ahead your visit.
If your military or a vet you can get in on the day your there
Don't think you need them just turn up
Go to the website for the museum. All the info is there
1400 constitution ave nw 20560 (LPT: if you google that question the address was populate as a result)
Passes are available everyday but go so quickly. You definitely will have a hard time getting them if going to the museum is a last-minute decision. Near impossible.
They had Mlk on 2 different floors, Booker T Washington on 1 but I didn't see George Washington Carver.
Military members can have one non military guest enter with them.
I took uber from hotel ( the District -Embassy Suites ) cost about $ 20 - $25 round trip. Dropped off and picked up at musuem
The Smithsonian Institute
Call the Smithsonian and they will get you in touch with the proper people and answer all of your questions
It is a museum. You can go or not. It displays some of the injustices recorded and not recorded in time. This place just showcases the inequality of a people that were abused and killed for senseless reasons. "Hatred in America" has to stop now. This museum is very educational.
Get real...can't anybody deny or change our history...We influence our history by the actions and deeds we do..Prisons and detention centers are built to make the white people money because Afrrican Americans do stupid stuff.. Black Panthers started school breakfast..buying and spending in out own communities etc..Our shoulders are the foundation for the next generation, just like our fore father's shoulders were ours. Black men and women DIED to accomplish what we squander and take for granted...Use your right....VOTE
At least 3 months in advance. They were booked up even then.
Probably not the best place to ask this question. Perhaps you should contact your local VA office.
No tickets. Timed passes received online.
Active duty and vets with ID can get in anytime without tickets. Not sure about law enforcement, but check the site or call.
Free time entry tickets...go online for tickets...they go fast once available...I got mine 3 months out and the day they were available when I went to website...little before 10 AM it was only 4 left
also, they do not want you to take pictures with a flash. i've been three times and i always see people using flash on their camera.
I am not sure if there will be any tickets, Tracy, but you can go online early Tuesday morning to get a ticket because that is where we got our tickets online. OK. I hope this is helpful. There is no Advance ticket is the same day, but you have to go online early at 6 a.m.
I didn't have to show ID
limited number of walk-up passes (one per person) are available starting at 1 p.m. on weekdays on the Madison Drive side of the building. No walk up passes are available on Saturdays or Sundays due to high visitation. Same-day timed entry passes are available online beginning at 6:30 a.m. ET daily until they run out. You may obtain up to four (4) same-day passes per order.
Right now you just walk in, no tickets are needed.
You go to African American museum website for ticket information
Acoording to my experience one day is enough
Go to website, tickets are free, but must be obtain in advance at websites. Ticket reservations opens at 6.30 am.
Now that's a tough one. There's no designated parking for the museum. You can find parking around the national mall area but get there early. Otherwise find done garage parking several blocks away.
We were there in September when you could walk up. Now you need reservations and they are full until late January. You may be able to get walk up but need to be there about 6-7 AM. Check on line.
Just go online and get your tickets. But the tickets go fast. If you are military, retired or active, you dont need tickets.
Ticket distribution starts at 630a online at this link https://nmaahc.si.edu/visit/passes . Passes go quickly so claim them as soon as you see them.
Not sure but if you can, should be online.
I understand the wait is up to January. We werer just there and September was no reservation required. Wall in only. Fantastic exhibition!
You have to call and reserve them it's a waiting list
It is not the closest to museum, Holiday Inn Capital is a centrally located hotel to most attractions in walking distance including the museum.
You obviously have a hard heart and that is what the Lord is looking at. Prayer going up for you. 😉😉 And how would you know what is in there????? Sounds like to me out if curiosity you have been in there. 😁😁😁
If he's in the military, he may be able to get in. Please check with the museum.
No parking located on the museum grounds but there's several locations about a block away.
It's supposed to be the shape of somebody's crown or hat back in Egyptian time
You don't need tickets. I was told that was when it 1st opened. During the week there's no lines...
Federal Triangle
should, unsure about spouse
We did not need a membership card to visit the exhibit. There is a LOT of walking, so having a wheelchair is probably essential for you. I don't know if they have them on site.
Only this month. You will have to call and find out.
Terry continue to enjoy life,
I seen older people riding scooters however I dont know if it is there personal scooter or the museum. I would think it's there personal.
For the month of September Monday thru Friday you don't need passes. Only on Saturday & Sunday you will need passes for September
Hello, the line fluctuates throughout the day and it is difficult to determine because this is our first time testing no passes for an entire month.
Download the app. It's helpful and keeps you aware of upcoming events. https://nmaahc.si.edu/
you need to contact the website for Sept. details
No, Passes are required to visit. Same-day timed entry passes are available online beginning at 6:30 a.m. ET daily until they run out. You may obtain up to four (4) same-day passes per order. Same-day passes are not available via phone. Sincerely, NMAAHC
I didn't park. I used the metro but as stated in other comments if you use a garage expext to pay up to $20.
Go to the museum shop and inquire
Hello, Rudolf Eickemeyer Jr collection is at The National Museum of American History.
Wheel chairs are available. If you have one bring it . Because they have so many people coming through that could be using them . My uncle 90 we had one for him . No motorized scooter. Again I suggest bring your own . Dont let that stop you from going . Awesome place to visit
We are honored to welcome veterans, active duty personnel and first responders to the museum. After showing their military, work ID or badge, veterans, active duty personnel and first responders may enter the museum and bring one guest with them for their visit. Entry into the museum is always subject to building capacity
Yes, You are allowed to enter the museum after your scheduled ticket time.
Nope
No special hrs for vets. Just show your ID ,(military badge, VA card, or drivers license with VA on it) at the door at any hrs the museum is open to visitors, and you are allowed 1 guest with you.
Yes it is free. You have to request tickets. Yes there is sometimes a line. Sometimes the line is long and sometimes the line is short. Even with the long lines they move you along fast.
Go to their website. If you plan on visiting some day, they release time slot tickets @ 6:30 every morning. Once you get your timed ticket, you can go in at the time of your ticket or anytime after that.
The museum is free but you do need a ticket for entry. You can try in advance of your visit for tickets on their website or stand in line the same day beginning at 12noon and try for an on-site same day ticket. Same day tickets really shorten your visit however.
Yes, if you are a veteran and have a military ID card or veteran ID card, you are allowed one guest
10am-5:30pm 7 days a week.
I parked at the ronald reagan building on 14th st. Stayed the whole day $25.
Online 6:30 a.m. they release a tranche of tkts that day but go fast with a 4 tkt limit. I went one morning at opening and a group had an extra tkt and just gave to me. Planning ahead, the 1st wed ea month the site release tkts for that month with 6 tkt limit per order.
We got in around our ticket time. We arrived an hour early but did some sight seeing until then
It is possible to get walk up tickets around 1pm, the line is long depending on the weather
All Smithsonian museums are free to the public. This one requires you to sign up online for a free pass to gain admittance. I was there August 3rd and I was fortunate that the security specialist gave me an extra pass. It's crowded but worth the wait.
Yes but released and reserved 3 months in advance on their website. Also day passes released in morning of same day. I joined African-American History DC tour that included a ticket (fast track) to museum for $89 on Viator.
You can go to the Smithsonian African American Museum website and they are taking reservations for November right now
They also have online same day tickets that are first come first serve available daily at 630 am.
Hello! They have wheelchair access. However, I'm unsure if they have usable wheelchairs on the premises. I would suggest calling their customer service.
Yes, go online to get the tickets... It also maybe a waiting list though....
From my understanding they do not need timed tir. Just show ID proving enlistment
Holiday Inn on C Street! They also have a pool on the rooftop. Rooms are nice and clean. Staff is kind.
A Two block walk North puts you in the heart of DC shopping district. Walk North on 14th street.
Yes. Businesses do not normally monitor Google Maps for questions about their services or availability. You should consider contacting them directly or using their website.
It's best to book online in advance. I believe they are booking for October or November now. They do have same day tickets, but you have to be there before 6:30a to stand in line and they run out quickly.
Alexandria just south of Reagan airports the best place for your stay. Also take the water taxi over to National Harbor another great place to hang out.
Parking on the street is a challenge and is for a limited time if you are able to find one. It's best to park in a garage or designated parking lot.
I agree with Scott
Yeah, you should get them in advance.
The pictures were Black and White so, you can't tell.
Yes
No you don't need ID
Honestly, I would locate the nearest train station and park there which is usually free, then go into the city. Or you can wait until the weekend and drive around and look for street parking near the museum. The downside is that it may take a while to find one and the max time is 3 hours, which prevents you from really absorbing everything
History has more than one element in the course ......
You have to go on the website and make your Arrangements there. There are time slots on different days and they will let you know if they can fit your party in a certain time slot on a certain day.
Hi, I researched for you.I didnt happen to have a baby with me, but no food or drink are allowed .They do offer a diner .Baby jar foods unsure.
6:30 am or show up at 1:00 at the Constitution Ave entrance and they have a limited number.
I would suggest staying near the metro. There is a Hilton right next to the train in Arlington. It drops you right on the 'mall'. Driving in dc is a nightmare and hotel prices are nuts.
Tickets are released every first Wednesday of the month @9am on it's website. I heard in September on the weekdays its no tickets required only on the weekends. It's a must see Museum ❤️
I believe in September they will be piloting walk up weekdays, so no ticket necessary. If otherwise the advice for checking website at 630 am for same day tickets. You know it is free admission, so no one should be charging for tickets
The best way to get passes is get on the site at 6.30am and just keep clicking until it says you have passed for the museum then it will ask if you are a robot and that's it but just make sure you are on the website promptly at 6.30 am
Yes , I believe so but attempt to get passes now as they are sold out weeks and months in advance . If you are staying at one of the big hotels in area check with concierge as they usually keep a couple tickets per day on hand.
You would have to get in line and hopefully you might get in
It's a 10 minute cab/Uber/car ride and about a 30 minute walk.
Metro is the great way to get around
I would go on the website to get information.
You will get in ...but only 2 hours will limit what all you can see...look at the museums' website and floor plan to identify what exhibits you would prioritize, or ask the desk staff when you arrive what they recommend given your time constraints.
I'm not sure about exceptions for seniors, but if you're a veteran or disabled veteran with credentials you move to the front of the line.
For tickets to all Smithsonian museums, I recommend all (non-veterans) go to the Smithsonian website to secure admission tickets in advance. Just as entry to all Smithsonian museums are free, all U.S.Veterans have same day, head of line privilege. P.s., around 1pm, (m-f) the NMAAHC grants access to dozens of ticket-less visitors lined up on the North 14th St entryway.
The best way is to go to their website. You can get timed entry passes for the "day of" starting at 6:30 a.m. You can also walk up on any day after 1 pm to get tickets but they're limited. If you're planning ahead you can get timed entry passes several months in advance online the 1st Wednesday of each month. I believe for this Month (July), you can get tickets for October
You have to go online the day off to get free passes for timed entry. At 630am, they post tickets for the day and they're gone by ~635am. You can only get 4 tickets per person.
We were running late when we went, and they allowed us to go in still. They were really nice about it.
Not sure the actually yes/no answers... but I definitely don't recommend it. It gets crowded and even when it's not packed, the room can be tight.
They must have a website.
Yes lockers are available
Veterans can show there vet identification.
Parking is challenging, but there are parking garages in the area that cost $15-19 a day. The museum is wheelchair accessible, but I did not notice on site availability.
Oprah had several things throughout the museum. The newest exhibit is about the Oprah Winfrey show. That exhibit is at the bottom of the escalator down 1 level from the main lobby
Purchased online or at the door. If you are a veteran with proof it's free. I suggest you go to the website and read up
Yes, however, there is an exhibit of Emmitt Till where his family donated his original casket and they prefer pictures not be taken of it. Story has it that Emmitt Till's body was exhumed and his family upgraded his casket and donated the old one to the museum. Out of reverence, they ask pictures not be taken of it.
They have a whole timed pass system explained at their website. But I found that I could walk in during the weekday. Mostly it's school groups during the weekday and not that crowded.
I'd go up there today and see if I could trade them in for a different time..
JW Marriott is close to the mall and the White House. You can take a cab there for about 15-20 dollars depending on traffic, or take the Metro to Metro Station and walk about a 1/4 mile
Go to African American Museum.gov. pick your dates and have an amazing time.
Whenever there's doubt call The Source. Google the phone number and call., That's the best response.
Its best to visit there website also because they give monthly deals.
On June 23 we will be open until midnight
They release them about 6:30 a.m. for that day. If you want tickets you have get them quick because they go fast. However, military members, veterans and first responders can enter with a guest by showing their ID card
Just a note...all active military, dependants & retirees get in without a ticket.
On the museum website. We never got the tickets because they were always gone, but got in because they are experimenting with no tickets on Wednesdays
Your best bet is to go onto the website at 630 actually, and you may be able to get a couple tickets, thats how we did it. Just keep refreshing your browser, they go fast
Hello, by Smithsonian card are you an employee or volunteer of the Smithsonian?
Visitors with military IDs do not need tickets and can take up to two guests...and yes, you can stay as long as you like. Enjoy!
Compensated? The passes are free.
I got to go with a friend through her school. It was a six month wait. But it was worth it.
I don't recall seeing that name but I could have missed it. There is a lot to see there.
Depending on the age of the child, parents, please consider bringing a stroller. Just because they can walk doesn't mean they don't get tired. You'll be glad you did!
Go early to start running around this huge museum
I believe it's to restore tranquility. Serves as a healing mechanism.
Online, go early each day in person and stand in line to hopefully get one, or search the web for tours (obviously at a cost) that include tickets. More about online: They give you passes daily for same day. Best bet get on that site right at 6:30am when they release them. On the first Wednesday of each month, the open advanced reservation passes for future time periods.
On July 4th go to the website and select the date and time in October you want to visit the museum. Make sure you print the tickets and bring them with you to the museum.
Make reservations online, or go to the museum like I did and hope that you'd get tickets at the entrance as I got.
You can call group sales.
No I don't
The 1st wed of every month they release tickets on the website at 9am. You can get up to 6 tickets
Yes, you can order online via internet.
It's a very wonderful exhibit of African American history
If you don't know your history you have no idea where you are going, to understand where you are going you must know where you have been. The American History Museum was established to preserve our accomplishments as Americans and inform future generations.
You need to have a ticket to get in, they do not check ids
I am not sure of the cost of the passes. But will check the website to see if they are offering any free passes
Yes, except in some areas. You can use cameras in most parts of the museum.
Veterans can get in anytime. No reservations or tickets required. Only the ID card
You either need a timed entry ticket which are given months in advance or if you arrive right as museum opens, they do have some walk up tickets available. On Wednesday's for this entire month (May), no tickets are required.
This month for the month of May every Wednesday no ticket required to gain entrance.
If by get you mean the museum shop, there is a surplus of goods, including hats, shirts, books, and other trinkets
If your a veteran you and three other folks can be admitted with out standing in line . Of course you must have your veteran lD.
Free parking on weekend and great tour buses low cost. A must see. I was thankful to view with my kids and Grandkids.
Due to the unprecedented interest, a timed pass system is available to serve as many visitors as possible. Join us for Walk- Up Wednesday. Every Wednesday in May our visitors are welcomed to explore without a pass.
The 4 yr old may be too young, but it'll be a great learning experience for the 10 year old. Especially since the museum covers a lot of material not covered in most schools.
Perfect place for your letter....
Group passes are currently suspended. We apologize for the inconvenience.
6am they release same day tickets. However most people plan months in advance
A very limited number of manual wheelchairs are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis for use while visiting the museum.
Idk but the amount of photos and vignettes I saw that day it is hard to recall one particular piece
Awesome
Yes, we are continuing walk-up Wednesdays in May.
There's a free family tree database that can help you prove your case at the Museum.
Yes, we are open everyday except Christmas Day.
Go to the museum website and there is a reservation system. Please understand that ticket availability is on some on specific days, I believe it's the 1st Wednesday of each month.

Sure just make sure you leave before the place closes
You have a Limit 40 persons!!! You can not exceed it. You already received credit for 40 and it is your problem that with this permit you go less :-)
Call the information desk at the museum and get the correct answer

The website is the most appropriate place to check.
You'd have to visit the website for that information.
Children are definitely invited. Its a great learning experience. You can walk up starting at 1:00 on weekdays and get available walk-in tickets.
Sorry I'm not able to help with that information.
I would reccomend checking the museums website for more information.
I would suggest you get there at 1pm. Queues move fast but could take about 45mins to get in. Plus there would be queues at the lower level gallery and getting in could take close an hour.
Smithsonian station, metro center, federal triangle
Please check the museums website. I believe there is a section regarding this matter and there is a phone number to call.
Thank you for contacting the National Museum of African American History and Culture. If you hold a VIP, government relations or congressional pass please use any entrance.
The National Museum of African American History and Culture is located at 1400 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C., between Madison Drive and Constitution Avenue and between 14th and 15th Streets. There are a limited amount of spaces near the museum.
Free all the time but due to the popularity of this museum, they implemented an entry pass system. However, on Wednesdays in April you can get in without a pass.
According to the museum's website, all children and infants require a timed entry pass.
You should check with them first. When I went they had selected that day for people to come without a pass. They allowed you to pay that day
Thank you for contacting the National Museum of African American History and Culture. We recognize and apologize for the frustration you have experienced when attempting to reserve timed-entry passes to the museum. The National Museum of African American History and Culture has generated an unprecedented level of interest on a local, national, and global scale. Since its opening in September 2016, more than 3 million people have visited the museum. The demand for passes remains high, and indeed has escalated during the Spring break season. The museum is working through a backlog of group requests and has temporarily suspended the group reservation system until the backlog is successfully addressed.
We do not include Friday in the weekend.
That information should be available on the website.

I'm fresh out, but you can get in the same day if you get there early.
The museum's website will announce a release date for tickets 2 months in advance. Example, today they relesaed tickets for July. At the beginning of May they will release tickets for August. You have to be online at 9am on the release day to request tickets. Tickets go fast for weekends.
The online tickets are first come first serve and go "on sale" (they are free) at 6:30 but they are usually gone within 10-20 min. The museum also has same day tickets that are handed out at 1 o'clock but they go quick too. When I visited the museum yesterday, there were 300 tickets passed out and they were all gone by 1:30.
Tickets are free but required for crowd control. The museum is very popular. If there were no tickets there would be too many people in the building which would create health and safety issues. Not to mention the public would not be able to fully take in all the wonderful exhibits if the crowds were too large.
There is a ledge nearby, but you will be standing allot before entering, and you will have a bunch of walking to get through all of the exhibits. I would definitely get a wheelchair.
Yes, the Dr. Kenneth and Mamie Clark dolls are on display in our History Galleries.
Yes there is no password involved
I believe it is always free. Check the website and make surnyou go. It is not to be missed...
The museum itself does not have a lot, but there are garages within walking distance if no street parking is available.
You will have to call them and check though i think its possible and they may consider.
The ground floor has a large lobby, coat room, restrooms, and a gift shop. There are five other floors, full of exhibits. You can move between floors by elevator or via stairs.
Getting a hotel near the museum isn't necessary. Smithsonian and Federal Triangle Stations are both an easy walk to the museum. The Metro is easy, clean, fast and reasonably priced.
Free timed entry passes for the Museum may only be obtained through Etix (see options below). Each timed entry pass provided through Etix has a unique code and can only be used once. All timed entry passes are free, and should not be bought or sold. Please be aware of attempts to make counterfeit passes available through other services, as passes obtained through other services or from individuals not associated with the Museum will not be honored. The Museum offers the following options for obtaining timed entry passes to the museum. Same-Day Online Same-day timed entry passes are available online beginning at 6:30 a.m. ET daily until they run out. You may obtain up to four (4) same-day passes per order. Same-day passes are not available via phone. CHECK SAME-DAY AVAILABILITY Walkups (Weekday Only) A limited number of walk-up passes (one per person) are available starting at 1 p.m. on weekdays on the Madison Drive side of the building. No walk up passes are available on Saturdays
The metro is always best if you can. If you park on the street the meters have a two hour limit. Some parking lots are open but could be expensive but would be for a few hours
You have to go to the website and check daily. Sometimes they let you know in advance when they will be released.
No there is not. Try Panda Parking for discounts on parking and availibity.
Looks like the wheelchairs are free according to other posted comments
It is the most popular museum for the moment. Overcrowding is an issue because of safety reasons and to protect the original artifacts that are openly displayed. It is a beautiful space. It takes several visits to get the full essence of the museum.
Saftey reasons. As with any building can only hold so many people, so their is a timed entry to keep count of the number of attendees at any given point (includes staff) in case of a fire, etc.
Yes

1st Wednesday of every month @9am est. Go on website for passes of a future date. Veterans & active duty can enter with military ID and can bring one guest without pass if capacity allows (weekdays).
They have time slotted same day tickets available starting at 6:30am ET, 1st come, 1st serve. In my experience, they are usually all gone in less than 5 mins
I would contact the museum who could best answer the ratio of chaperones to people been guided
Apply for tix 1st Wednesday after 9am est. First come, first served.
All tickets are free to everyone ...
The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture has changed its admission rules: Veterans no longer need to obtain passes in advance. Instead show your ID (active duty, retired, veteran) and you can enter the museum along with two (2) guests!

Go to website. Use menu to connect then contact us. There's a media press section.
You can get the free museum pass/Tickets on their web site I believe they give preference to groups
Tickets are free to everyone...they are time stamped for entry....but free
I believe most of the items on display are either part of the permanent collection on lone from other parts of the Smithsonian, other museums and some from private collections ....so I somehow doubt it pays for items loaned for display...maybe the loaning of an item could be considered a tax deduction ...why not ask the Smithsonian institute
Scroll down on the pass there is a box with the date and time
First come, first serve for non ticket holders. They open doors at 10, lines was already formed when we arrived at 9.
The museum is very accessable to handicapped visitors. Call ahead to inquire about renting a wheelchair, but if you arrive in a wheelchair there will not be a problem getting around.
Online on the museum website you can same day tickets from 6.30 am, you can either print them or their staff can read them from your smart phone. Otherwise you can wing it and try get a walk up ticket at 1.00pm. They seem to have a preference for school groups.
Trick question tickets are free so you don't really purchase them, but since the museum is nee they do have timed entry which you do need a ticket for. They do have walkins everydayat 1:00pm, but those spots go really fast.
I have use parking panda to fine parking in D.C. usely park on the Arlington side of the river and tske the metro or bus into the city center....I find it easier to deal with the traffic when leaving as it can take hours if not years off your life.
No cost for anyone just get free online tickets before arriving. Go to website to get same day pass
Yes
Best thing to do is go online Monday to Friday for same day passes at 6 am. Same day passes are available for walk up Monday to Friday so line up at Noon for 1:00 pm distribution. You also walk around and ask people waiting in line for extra passes. The museum staff wearing the red vests may have extra passes. Yes on the third floor from the top there is a place to trace your ancestry. You must sign up for a scheduled time to do so once you are at the museum.
Yes can come anytime after your time on your pass. You can not enter before the time on your pass.
I am under the impression that absolutely everyone needs a ticket.
Yes you can enter anytime after the time on your pass
Yes. It will not be a problem
Three hotels are half a mile away (2 city blocks / 0.5 mile / 0.8 km / 880 yards / 2640 feet) from the National Museum of African American History and Culture: 1. JW Marriott Washington DC 2. Intercontinental The Willard Washington DC 3. W Washington D.C. It would take an average person 10-15 minutes to walk that distance without any breaks or delays. Hiring a taxi, Uber, Lyft or a similar service would take approximately 3 minutes.
The tickets are not for sale. Go the museum's website to see the various ways to obtain entry.
You get them online. I didn't know this and showed up at the door. The lady at the entrance let me in. I
Federal Triangle Blue Line
Must get tickets in the morning for specific time slot during that day
Not that I know of.
You would need to go to the museum's website to obtain timed entry passes. This would need very quickly as there are only a few dates available for May.
They are either mailed or sent to your mobile device, they also have free entry if you arrive I believe before midday
They are free. Tomorrow Wednesday February 7, 2018 the museum is releasing tickets at 9 am EST online.
Only closed on Christmas day.

You can go online to the museum website every morning at 6:30AM for same day passes. The next date for regular passes is February 7th for May 2018 attendance.
Doesn't appear to be a question.
You go to the website at 6:30am that's where you will receive free passes to enter the museum that same day and that is done seven days a week and Monday through Friday at 1:00pm. They give away walk up passes at the museum I suggest you be there thirty minutes early because the passes are first come first serve. If you are in the military or a veteran or any first responder your credentials will act as a pass. You can always talk to the red vest.
Same day free museum passes are available online at the museum website at 6:30 am. Monday through Friday. The other same passes are available at 1 pm Monday through Friday. You can line up at about 12 pm - 12:30 pm. You can also ask the museum staff wearing red vests if they have extra passes. Also ask people who are in line to enter the museum for extra passes. DCA Reagan international. You can take train from airport to near museum.
I'm sorry, but there's not a Florence Price exhibit.
My husband got tickets for 2:30pm today but we will be late for that time due to traffic. Will we still be able to get in?
That is correct. It's required that everybody has a ticket.
You're good. Just take your ID.
You have to make a reservation online for electronic passes. The passes are free but you need to plan ahead early that morning. The late passes do not provide enough time for you to see everything.
Glad to get this info. However, if you are traveling from out state, tickets in hand is a better position to be in.
The only time there is an opportunity to get tickets in advance is on the 1st Wednesday of the month. However, if you go to the website you will see that the up coming advance tickets will be for visits in May.
Yes you can take as many pictures as you like, except at the Emmett Till exhibit.
The web site will tell you when you can start getting tickets. However tickets are usually three months out. Ex. tickets that are available in February are for May so you have to plan early. They do however have a few first come first serve tickets starting at 6:00 a.m on certain days.
Thank you all.
At their website online
I didn't notice any outside seating, but I did notice quite a few older folks sitting on the benches in the designated areas. I would definitely call first.
Online should tell you if group tickets are avail. It is free anyway. One person got all our tickets at once.
Yes. They are free but they're also in high demand. Check the website at 6:31AM on the day you plan to visit and same-day tickets may be available.
Go Onine look under group tickets have a few dates in my best to go on early in the morning
Yes cameras are allowed in the museum but pictures can't be taken in the Emmett Till's memorial out of respect for the family's wishes.
It depends on when you want to go. They release passes first Wed of Month and next release is for April. If you need same day, you can get online at 6:30 a.m. or show up at museum at 1 PM weekday to see if they have room.
Go on their website. They are sold out until April. However, on a weekday, show up before 1pm and wait in the walk up line and you should get in. It's worth it.
Yes they can once you present your military i.d.,
Go to there website that's the best place to get your answer. Because when I got my tickets I had to get them 3 months in advance.
I would suggest that you look for a contact information their website and relay the question
Should be able to get in, it all depends on how late you will be

Depending on how much crowded it is, you may not get in
No it doesn't. I also have a membership and I was told by security at the entrance no ticket no entry. BUT there is one exception to the rule, if you are active duty or a veteran your granted entry no matter what. I hope this helps.
You should get a ticket for her
It's great to be a veteran. You just have to show your ID and you and your guests can enter any time. You don't have to wait in line or wait for scheduled tickets.
Get a bus or uber it will be almost impossible to find parking around the area
Yes but you have to have the tickets to get in.
Its 15 and the food is great. Enjoy the experience of it all.
My trip was not using a bus. We road the metro train in to D.C. Then walked to different sites.
There are parking garages few blocks away but are expensive. Street parking is difficult to find.
Yes, you need to wake up at about 6am to get your ticket for that same day, but it is worth it!
We went last Sunday and we got online and got the tickets the morning of early like 6am
Im sure you can take pictures. At many if the Smithsonian's you can take pictures.
Ask the desk
Yes, went on this past Saturday. Straight in with no problems.
You should call and see
At the present time all group passes are temporarily suspended until they can get their waiting list down.
The Museum has security check points AND lockers for you to store your coat. The cost is .25 cent per locker.
I called Wednesday at 6:30 on-the-dot and get 2 11:00 tickets. We arrived at 10:30, and they let us in early.
You have to go the website the morning of the day that you want to go.
Tickets are free. You need to go online and sign up for them. They send them electronically. Make sure you do it as soon as they start accepting requests.
Yes. You just can't take pictures in the Emmitt Till memorial.
There are none on site but you can order one to be delivered
If you're with a vet, service member or first responder, you can just show up and get in. They can only bring in one or two additional people
Yes, but I did see some signs about no food and drink allowed near some exhibits. I just waited until I was away from the exhibits to drink my water.
Yes, it is that easy. That is the method we used to get 4 tickets last week.
If you do a same day ticket you will have more luck. They go up at 6:30 in the morning on the day. That's how I got in on Tuesday.
I parked at the Ronald Regan building. $15.
The Smithsonian station and Federal Triangle are about the same distance away. You might find Smithsonian a little more convenient.
Yes, there's a gift shop and street vendors and online
They are all free, but as noted, you need to get tickets on line to get your day/time slot. There are 3 ways to get tickets. #1. Long range planning... The tickets are released months in advance but "sell out" quickly. The web site will tell you when the next block will be released and what the time period is that is being released. #2. If you weren't able to plan weeks/months ahead, they release a small amount of same day tickets early each day... I believe it's at 6:30 am. These are usually gone within minutes. #3. If you weren't quick enough to get those, show up in person at 1 or 1:30pm (can't recall which, so look on line for the details) and they may have a few more to give out. * If you're a veteran, you can just show up and get in without a ticket. As a vet, you can bring in +1 adult OR up to 2 children.
I know military personnel get a line off to left side and we went right in without any pass or delay.
There is parking at the Ronald Reagan building less than a block away
It is hard but u have to get on early morning around 6am see if u can get passes for that day
Yes, the museum will give you what you need when you go to their website.
Yes there is an awesome restaurant. A bit pricy, but great fare.
Yes it is handicapped and yes you must make reservation
Check the website for the next ticket release day. Be ready to pick alternate days and times. Then make it your business to be on the etix site between 6:30 am and 10:30 am (eastern) on that day for the best selection. Pay attention to the suggestions on the site for busy days and times when walk-ups are available. Large groups can call for special arrangements.
Dont quite get your question
Daily tickets are available starting at 6am the day of your visit
I think at leadt three days if you are not able to get tickeys for early in the day each day. There are 8 floors and a lot to see. Be prepaired, it is a lot of walking and wheel chairs (if neede) are first come first serve.
You can get same day walk up tickets on a first come first serve basis Monday - Friday. I arrived at 1:15pm and they were going pretty quickly. I stayed approximately 4 hours and didn't even get half way through. It will take you multiple visits. I can't wait to go back!
No. But they have a limited number of standard wheelchairs.
No
Yes they are .
The museum is free. You just have to go on the website and get tickets.
We got tickets from a friend but check the website. Also, Veterans can go at any time with an ID and can take one guest. An attendee told me that, and I did verify it with the staff.
Veterans can show a military ID and bring 1 adult or 2 minors (not sure of the age breakdown). Otherwise you need a timed pass, even though it's free. ...used my military ID 2 weeks ago to get in.
I don't know about that one. My group was there yesterday with no group reservation problems. Go online.
The museum is free but do to its high demand they have to give tickets out in blocks .. the waiting list for tickets is very long for the weekend but you can walk up on the week day ... its worth every minute .. please go and bring your family
Tickets are free, just go on the website and pick the day (days) you want go
They are individual.... however, you can request up to six at a time. Then you can go back and make another request for more tickets. I was able to get 13 tickets..... 6, 6, and 1.
Online in the morning at 6:30 or hope they have passes at 1 pm outside the Museum. Best bet is the former.
You can go there and wait. if someone has extra tickets you can use them. we waited like 20 minutes and we were able to get in but we are only two people. In one group three people didn't show up so there were three extra tickets and they were willing to give it to us.
No, you do not need a ticket. Go the the website and look under Frequently Asked Questions. Veterans, active duty, and first responders can go without a ticket and bring ONE guest with them. You will only be denied entry if it is full to capacity. In that case, just wait.
Go to their website. They're only released monthly...
Tickets are helpful, non ticket holders have to stand on long lines
Elevators and the staff should be able to accommodate...
Go online to their website to request free timed-entry tickets, up to 6 per person.
It's a Smithsonian, so all visitors get in free! It's high volume so reserving tickets ahead of time is advised
The best is if you just visiting uber is your best bet parking is a nightmare unless you get there very early
