I reside in Texas and this will be my first visit to Washington DC. Can anyone recommend a good hotel? Preferably close to the airport or with in walking distance from the Smithsonian. Staying at least 3-4 days so I can see all exhibits.

JW Marriott is close to the mall and the White House. You can take a cab there for about 15-20 dollars depending on traffic, or take the Metro to Metro Station and walk about a 1/4 mile

We stayed at the Hyatt Place Washington DC/National Mall and loved it. I would definitely recommend them over and over. Shoot I've been back once since then but the Hyatt brand is one of my new favs.
