They were running a little behind when we arrived and the tour was around 85min at a fairly fast pace. Much of the furniture is not original but they did a great job finding pieces that looked like the original time period for what she liked. Lots of varying types of stair ways from tall skinny stairs to my my favorite short deep stairs. Many of the stairwells though weren't very wide, so if you are a bigger person like myself it'll feel a bit squishy in areas. Or if you are mobility restricted this is NOT the tour for you since you do go up and down many stairs throughout the tour. Thankfully those areas you were allowed to touch walls since many of the rooms have original textured walls and they requested you not touch them. Photos are allowed and water was provided half way through, which was nice because it got very hot. They asked no flash photography, video, or food and to treat it like you would a museum.

Great place to visit. Please remember....its a very old home so no air-conditioned tour. Super easy to walk. Very interesting story Just takes a few hours if you decide to look around. Kid friendly and senior. There are stairs to climb so be aware if you have walking issue.

Cool tour. The tour guides were amazing. I highly recommend taking the extra tour after taking the first tour, it made the overall experience that much better. Gift shop to shooting range, axe throwing to house tour, this site holds a lot of adventure to be had. Warning: I and my guests experienced paranormal activity while in the house. My experience was not nearly as bad as my guests but be aware, paranormal experiences are possible and my not be suitable for all people.

We toured on our weekend getaway. What an AWESOME experience! Very unique! Just wish there was a little more time in between rooms; not only for pictures but to allow the available presence(s) to come through more. Faces are within paintings/pictures in pictures. Definitely does not sell short of the energy in that building! Beautiful architecture! Captivating! Now, we just need a midnight tour or sleepover! ☺️
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
I paid $45 a ticket for 2 tours. But I would go on their website and book your tour in advance. It's worth the money you have to pay to see this house. I had a great time. Pictures can only be taken of the outside of the house. That's not a problem because the outside is as beautiful as the inside. I hope everyone enjoy's this house as much as I did.
No. Sarah Winchester was the last of the family to own it. It was bought from the estate by a developer months after her death.
Yes it is. Check their site for specials. We got a deak through Groupon
Service dogs only in the house. Hot dogs can be found in the food court, but are not allowed in the house.
"161 rooms, including 40 bedrooms, 2 ballrooms (one completed and one unfinished) as well as 47 fireplaces, over 10,000 panes of glass, 17 chimneys (with evidence of two others), two basements and three elevators."
Yes ! you can walk around the front gardens, see the rifle museum , cafe and gift shop without going on tour.
Not right now. The owner could theoretically sell it, but it's likely far more lucrative as a tourist destination (from lots of tour admission income) than as a real estate transaction.
There are 40 bedrooms, 9 kitchens and 13 bathrooms as well as conservatories, parlours and receiving rooms, twin dining rooms and ballrooms.
All children are WELCOME. Mrs. Winchester would love to have them come visit.
Its about the wife of the man who invented the winchester rifle. Legend says that she built a house out west, summoned spirits in her mansion was haunted by the people killed by her husband's rifle. People say that the mansion is still haunted, which personally speaking, i think it might be. This place was featured in Ghost adventures. Its a nice experience
There is a movie about this house that will be out in theatre February 8. The house built by ghost. Check that movie out.
This was a question I needed, as I was replicanting Sarah's home with Gingerbread. It sat on top of her and Worksman tools since 1979 to curent. However someone said it was desposed of maybe couple years back. I've been I'll, still gotta brain. Let me know please. Also, there was a poster board of pictures of the process. And 2 legends of my family doing their part to win😁
When i went they asked if anyone needed a translator, i definitely would recommend giving them a call and let them know in advance that you will be needing a translator on date of visitation. Hope you get to go see the house!!! Hf!!
Yes, they are correct! It is painted beautifully but it is NOT the original color scheme. I asked a tour guide and she said she believes it was originally "eggshell white" and "teal", then later painted a medium shade of green. Yes there are many styles of once, fancy wallpapers and the wallpaper in her favorite niece's room is all hand painted from Asia. Some rooms were left as-is after the 1906 earthquake.
New Motion Picture where on location some of the movies was filmed on-site. Releases
There's a separate building on the grounds that has a whole history of guns. Its just across from the gift shop/cafe. Next to where you start your tour
It true you'll have to go for your self sometimes its creepy and sometimes it not
Photographs inside the house is not allowed. Verify with them to make sure
It is a good tour and the movie came out on February 2018; IMDB rating is 5.4/10.
With a lot of stairs and small hall ways. I doubt it. Unless you wanna carry the stroller up and down stairs
No
39 and 65 the longest tour
They have the night time flashlight tours. I don't k now about catching any ghosts while there though.
The mansion has 160 rooms spanning 24,000 square feet. There are 47 fireplaces, 40 stairways, six kitchens and three elevators in the mansion
Yes but the darker tours are intended to frighten FYI. Also be mindful that the tour is about an hour long and no strollers are allowed.
I have to say the same. Everyone else is kinda peripheral.
Yes -- Most of the stairs are quite small though (for an understandable reason), so I highly recommend watching your step if you ever visit there 😅
You dint get the feelings of it being haunted because of the large group when you take the tour. But it makes you think about Mss Winchester live. Like her doing the things she did to keep the spirits away. But its worth the tour to know the history.
I guess if you wander away from your tour, you may be lost forever... 👻
It is a guided tour, they do not off non-guided tours of the house. If I remember correctly there’s one-to-two dozen people in the tour. But the tour guides do a great job of gathering the group to discuss the house in each room of interest. I highly recommend going.
It's free no appt.
Only the garden is open. At home there are no tours to see it from the inside. They charge you 19 dollars to go to the garden.
It depends on the tour that you decide to do. The daily estate tour for an adult is $39.
Just the wheelbarrow ghost in the basement.
They may have died taking the tour on a hot day, or of boredom during the tour. The psychosis of Mrs. Winchester define try haunt the joint.
i
I heared soft music playing in some rooms at start of tour.
The story of the mansion is told, including paranormal data. Whether or not you can see it is in each person. But if it's worth it.
It was never meant to be completed. She continued building it until the day she died. She was a troubled woman, not hard to imagine why after everything she went through.
There are narrow corridors, passageways and stairs that are a challenge for regular walking.
Ive only been on the 1 hour tour..however if walking is not a problem and you dont have little kids with you i would do the 2 hour tour
The only way to see the interior of the house is with a tour. You can upgrade your tour by adding a behind the scenes type tour. There is an age limit. My group enjoyed both tours.
About an hour. We arrived an hour early to explore the grounds. There is parking across the street as well.
Was not shown the doors that were boarded close with 13 nails. Movie was very informative. My granddaughter was with me. We have the gift of smelling, feeling, hearing and seeing the spirits. We do not advertise our abilities. The interior of the home was accurate.
It hasn't always been a thing but since they made the movie based on the Winchester, they've bought the rights to it which means no photography from the inside. Although you can still take pictures of the house from the outside and the gardens
No, you dont have to pay to walk around the grounds inside the gate. Its nice to walk around the grounds. There are some windows you can see in, and a couple of areas free to walk in.
Not exactly. Pretty much the entire tour is going up and down stairs.
Plus an additional $10 if you want to add the extended tour on at the end.
It's about half mile and takes about an hour for the regular tour. You will also have to walk up and down stairs. There is some standing and no place to sit on the tour at all. Others tours may be longer. Also, there are 2 small museums and grounds that you can walk around in, so that could add another half mile or so of walking if you choose to do those. There are benches around the garden and grounds though. Everything outside is on a paved path.
You can purchase tickets online if you know exactly when you want to go. If you wait to purchase them in person, they are first come first served. Tours are every 5 minutes, so thats a bonus, yet if there is a lot of people there, you could have to wait a bit before you go on the tour. With how many folks were there when we went, roughly a 2 hour wait for afternoon tours...
All tour prices are listed on the website. Adults are $39 and children are $20 right now for the basic tour.
I would do the whole thing. For $10 more you can do the explore more tour. Your already there and you've already paid the $39. Why not?...it is 2 tours with a 20 minute or so break in between.
Once the tour ends as long as you want, but other then the tours and gift shop and a few little museums not much else to do other than spend money, but the tours are cool.
I think so, but call them. The people who answer the phones are nice and you should be able to get through to someone right away. I also agree that it's probably not the best idea to take a baby, but probably ok.
Yes that is true I was just there last week & it is because of the movie film rights, but you can take pictures outside!
I'm assuming you wanted to know what the value was to date, yeah I don't know that it's even possible to figure that out. You have location, you have size, potential income, all of these would factor into it and when you're talking about an 2 bedroom apartment in the area going for over a million. It's a crazy thought!
No
Please seek help
The staff said there are people who see and feel things. There was a caretaker that has never left.
On the sidesteeet between the parking lots that leads to the dome theaters there may be parking for a big rig. I would google earth it.
Maybe we didn't go inside we went outside.I believed so guys.
Group rates begin with group sizes of 15 or more. For your group of 6, the standard rate would apply Adult (Ages 13-64): $39.00 Child (Ages 6-12): $20.00 Senior(65+), Military, Fire, EMT: $32.00 Currently, they are offering an Explore More tour, where you will get to see more rooms and the basement. It's a bit more expensive but well worth it (it includes the standard mansion tour) Adult (Ages 13-64): $49.00 Child (Ages6-12): $20.00 Senior(65+), Military, Fire, EMT: $42.00
I don't believe it has any natural predators and no hunters could really take down anything that big.
Whaaaaat?
Call and explain the situation and they will refund you! They had NO problem refunding us our 2 tickets, due to an unforeseen misfortune.
Call online number they should refund your money
Would be a good idea to do that. Super easy too.
This gorgeous and disconcerting
I don't think you'll get a refund, as the site does say " No Refunds " If you need to reschedule, I would because I think its worth it. You can also try to sell the tickets to someone.
I would call them. They have all sorts of organization gatherings and deals. They even had those food trucks in the parking lot for a while.
you have to call in advance to have a interpreter handy that's what I was told anyways like I said one of the best places I've been love the different rooms and those little secret hiding places lady definitely newer stuff great place to check out everybody loves it adults kids they don't matter who you are
I think the tale is that the owner designed the house could communicate with spirits. The house has a very weird layout including stairs that go nowhere. Both the rumors make the house more mystic.
There are no tours. Only self guided tours which was great because most rooms have speakers giving you a back story of the house or room. I would check the website.
You have to buy the pictures on the way out.
Currently the Mystery House is not selling tickets for dates past Nov. 8th. They may end the tour season for 2020 at this time due to COVID-19.
I actually do remember seeing that in the house when I visited three weeks ago. Unfortunately since the house is so big I can't remember what room. Perhaps one of the kitchens or a bedroom
Yes they have tours daily, it's worth it, only when I went just the first two floors were open. Makes me want to go back for the other two.
1) I saw no 'evidence' that it is haunted, 2) If it is haunted not everyone would experience a specific 'evidence' - I doubt that's how ghosts work. 3) what you see and hear is based on the energy you bring, good and bad from your unique life experiences, makeup, and beliefs.
Yes you can
Hello, good afternoon Jimena, I work there in the gardening area and the entrance seems to be at $ 45.00 but tomorrow I can corroborate and I will give you more information
You got it smoke dog. I been visiting the mansion for over 40 years. It's something that has to be seen to truly appreciate
Well, a lot of money was spent to avoid the spirits of the dead. However seances were regularly held there, ironically. So it's possible at least one room is well visited by energies from another plane. And if one room of a house is haunted, presumably the rest of the structure would be tarred by the same ectoplasm. So the answer would be...yes.
priceless
I saw people with backpacks when we visited, so I would assume they are allowed.
The house is in San Jose.
Nope
I believe Natalie did have fun if she had a good tour guide.
24,000 square feet.
It is a video only tour. As tight as some of the halls are and the numerous steps would be tough for a wheelchair to get around.
I think the movie had extra dramatic effect to it, but the doors are not nailed shut. Still, I would not stay there. The tour is very in-depth specially if you ad the behind the scene tour.
No... I am pretty sure that the tours are about the extent of the public to spend time in the house... I have heard rumors of overnights happening once upon a time... I would recommend calling the office and checking, directly...
Keep up behind your guide, it will ne safe.
I would say the walker wouldn't fit through most of the stairs. You can have drinks as long as they are in a resealable container. No gum and there are things you cannot touch because they are original to the house I agree with Jude, I would call ahead and see about the walker. Your tour may have to be altered to get through some of the spaces
I took tons of pictures while I was there
For the most part yes. When it comes to the stair cases, half of them are normal stair cases and the other are 3 inch tall steps. They were made that way for Mrs. Winchester herself, because of her mobility issues. If a cane and assistance is a viable alternative, I would say it's possible.
There are quite a few options in all different price ranges, it just depends on what you like and how much you're willing to drive
Before Sarah Winchester bought it in 1884, it was an unfinished farm house with 8 rooms on 44 acres.
Buy them in advance if you want a specific day or time.
There are more tours, please check it on their website
Purchase online. You get opportunity to choose which day and tour time. If you get them there you'll have a wait for a tour
Try Groupon if you have a big group. Please don't forget to take the memory home with a photo taken by a mystery pix member! Ask the photo booth for more info.,
They mentioned one spirit but did feel anything.
What are you talking about?
No. Considering that it is supposed to be the most haunted place in the country, I'm not sure you'd want to spend the night there.
No, no ghosts and no scary stuff. Just a guided tour of a fantastic old home.
$39.99 for mansion tour or explore more tour, $49.99 to do both
No, all of the rooms are preserved and none avaliable to stay.
I don't think so... Unfortunately parking is pretty tight.. .. there may be a little ways away but I'm not sure.
It is rumored to be haunted by ghosts, some say of those the rifles killed, others speculate they are the workers. Houdini once stayed there (October 1924) trying to disprove the theory of ghosts. After his night in the house he said he could neither confirm nor deny the existence of spirits and that the house was indeed a mystery. Some tour guides believe this is where it got it's name. Many of the architectural aspects along with Sarah Winchester's belief that the ghosts would stay at bay as long as she continued to build could also lead to it's name.
It was an 8-room farmhouse before Sarah bought it
The basic tour is $39.99. And the extended (additional 40 rooms) is $10.00 more dollars. Totally worth it!
Yes there is. Look online. There are many pictures of the original structure throughout the gallery.
Peace and mercy be upon you
Look online. They have times and cost. You can also call them or purchase in person. They run tours like every 20mins.
Yes. Have at it! I suggest paying them to spend the night alone in the mansion. That's your best shot at it😉
Very cool! There is a lot of history about Mrs. Winchester and the city of San Jose.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/winchester_mystery_House
Personally I haven't seen the film. They could be referring to the earthquake that took place off of the San Andreas fault in 1906. With a magnitude of 7.9, it effected Northern California from San Juan to Cape Mendocino. Known as the San Francisco earthquake.
When we went, there was a high of 72° and we were still cold, especially in rooms that were shaded. Occasionally we'd get some sun and it was alright, but I would suggest wearing pants and long sleeves.
She died of natural causes. She was a very old woman suffering from arthritis and several other alements. She passed in her bed in the house. You can visit her room and immerse yourself in history, so long as your respectful!
On September 5, 1922, she died in her sleep of heart failure. A service was held in Palo Alto, California, and her remains lay at Alta Mesa Cemetery until they were transferred, along with those of her sister, to New Haven, Connecticut.[8] She was buried next to her husband and their infant child in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven, Connecticut. She left a will written in thirteen sections, which she signed thirteen times.[9] The belongings in Winchester Mystery House were left to her niece, Marian I. Marriott, who took what she wanted and auctioned the rest off.
I can tell you back when Sara Winchester first started building the house She inherited 20 million and 51% of the shares from her husband. I do not know how much that translates to today.
No rifle range, but there's a clever haunted attic shooting gallery using laser technology instead of bullets. Think video game, not firing range.
I'm not sure call the box office there they will help you with your question
Sept 5 1922, when Sarah died. Since there was no blueprints it's hard to say where is the end of the house
$39 for adults and $20 for children ages 6-12. Ages 65 and up or military EMT and Fire are $32.
It is a fun 1 hour tour the delves into the history of the property and the woman who owned it. Went in blind and had a great time as a fan of history.
Sarah is wife of Mr. Winchester Jr. Who is son of Winchester Rifle 's founder. She died in 1922.
Yes. 9 am- 7:30 p.m
The self guided garden tour and small gun museum are free but you will need to pay to enter any part of the main house
U$39 (30 minutes), or U$49 (60 minutes) to adult
135 years old.
It ranges from $20-$49 depending on route of your and date. Usually you can save a few dollars by purchasing through Groupon.
We were told no picture taking on the tour inside the house.
I'm sure they are open during the holidays. Tour can vary in length, basic for is about an hour, extended tour is 2 hours. Cost depends on tour selected. Figure about 25-40 dollars per person.
The heiress to the Winchester Arms fortune lost hwr young child and husband back in CT, so she decided to come west and bought thr house thats now the attraction. From the time ahe purchased the house in 1884 till hwr desth in 1922, she was constantly having work done on the house. Many say she went insane since the design feels as if its meant to entrap visitors and has many paths leading to nowhere and doors that open to exterior walls and the like. Its said to be haunted nowadays
Depends, but single tour around 39 USD. (You can always check the website)
I believe the Winchester House operates as a private business. The is an owner who would profit, it's not owned by any park service or public entity.
For Candlelight Tour it's $49 if you have kids it's $19 per person. Regular date or is $40
The tour guide stated that it was to be 65 min. It was all walking and standing with no real places to sit.
Yes
Yes it does, they have flashlight tours & Candlelight tours and a very nice museum entrance with all the old memorabilia.
$39 but there's different tours you can take
The tours are all year. The candlelight tour is from mid September to the end of October.
Call
I do not remember exactly but it is between 20 and 30 dollars.
It varies first on whether your a skeleton key club member because they get cheaper prices. Second on what kind of tour/s, dates, special events, etc. Best thing to do is go on their website.
The gift shop and grounds are accessible but the mansion isn't
Yes, guide told us and showed us of pics that suggest some images...Its ones guess/belief
Alot.
It's free to enter but the tours are $39 for the main tour and $10 for the explore more tour, both are about an hour long
A firearm manufacturer.
Google .... ( popcorn time ) FREE
Yes. I witnessed a few. Not just because its a beautiful odd house. You know your not alone.
I believe you will habe to wait until the middle of August. They seem to only sell tickets 5 weeks in advance.
We didn't do the tour due to time restrictions on our trip, but we did take pictures outside the mansion. A lot of the pictures did not come out very good, but in a few it looked as though "something" was standing next to my daughter... Just spooky strange!! We will be going back to do the tours sometime soon, I hope.
Sarah Winchester left it for her niece. Eventually, the stste of California owned it (I'm not quite sure how), and then it was bought by an anonymous owner.
This question was asked last week during my tour of the house. Since there are no existing blueprints of the house, and they have never measured the rooms, the total square footage is unknown.
I don't think it is known, as they keep finding new places. Just the mansion tour takes 65 minutes, but then there is an additional tour that costs extra for guests 10 and older.
It takes an hour but is not worth it because we can't take pictures or videos. Not good for children under 10 it years old because they get bore.
You can purchase tickets up front at the gift shop. There's the standard 60 min tour for 39.99 and the "explore more" 120 minute tour for 49.99. Many people recommend the explore more tour as you see a lot more of the house. I believe the garden tour is included in the package but I'm not 100% certain.
Yes...purchasing tickets will reserve a special time, you choose. Highly recommend the add on tour, which is another hour for $10, if you like spooky!
Tours are fully guided. Try the "Explore More" tour. They take you into the secret seance room, and the basement!
The house does not have modern cooling. They have fans placed throughout, but with large groups and tours later in the day, it gets hot fast. There are also small stairways mixed in the tour, some could easily feel claustrophobic.
Not sure about a bus that goes directly to the Winchester house but a cab/uber/lyft could get you there no problem. It's possible a city bus could get you at least within walking distance. However, San Jose is at least an hour away from San Francisco. Depending on the day and time it could be longer drive time therefore higher rates might apply. It may even be cheaper to rent a car for the day, stop in San Jose on your way and then continue to SF after your visit. Winchester house has a private lot with ample free parking. Tours are every hour, if you get there early they have a great gift shop, café and portions of the property you can tour on your own while you wait.
Not sure I'm sure it will be on the website
Yes but you can buy tickets at the booth when you arrive.
It depends how much you want to see of the house and when you want to go. The best way to find options and prices is to check out the website
Look for a groupon. Alot cheaper now online but you can buy there.
$39 for the regular tour. They have other tours that you will pay an additional amount for. Check the website for all of the info.
No, the tours are continual walking and standing with nowhere to sit.
The extra $10 for the attics and basement 1 hour extension is worth it...
Its supposedly haunted by ghosts killed by the rifle, and of Mrs. Winchester and some of her employees.
It is not air conditioned but most of the windows are open and a good breeze flows through. I suggest light clothes and baby powder. Stairs are, for the most part easy as they are only 3" high and 8" deep.
$40 per adult but can get military discount and I think it goes down to $33. Kids and seniors cheaper if I remember
It never was but that doesn't make it one bit less interesting
She bought it around 1922 when they moved from Connecticut . It started as a small farm house and when her husband died it is said that a psychic told her to build add-ons to apease the spirits of those that the guns he manufactured killed. She did it because she was told to never finish it and to build odd structures to confuse the ghosts. It was damaged in an earthquake and most of the front of the house was closed off as she rairly had visitors anyway. She was only 4'11" tall so alot of the doors are very short and narrow and had special stairs made for her because of her arthritis. The stairs were only about 3" high and 12" deep. She was receiving $1000/day ($22,000/day today) so money was no issue.freaky house.
No more than 15 were in our group.
Only Sarah Winchester died in the house. She married somewhere back east, hee only daughter died weeks after being born, and her husband died soon after that, she was distraught and sought out the help of a physic of some sort who told her the ghosts of all the people who had died from the Winchester gun were who had killed her husband and daughter and she needed to move far away, and start building a house that work would never cease I'm, as the sound of hammers and saws would keep the ghosts away that meant her harm. So she bought an old farm house in California and work continued on it day and night until she passed away some 30 years later, in the house. But as far as anyone knows she is the only person to have died in the house. People do see the ghost of at least one of her former employees on the property, it is said you can see him pushing a wheelbarrow around the property.
Kids are $20 and adults are $50 to do the entire 2 part explore more tour. I believe it was $10 cheaper for adults if you only want to do the standard tour. If your already there you might as well do the whole thing. Parking is free!
If I were you I would go online and find out I would think it would be because that's what people do when they have holidays they go places
Mrs. Winchester had Carpenters working around the clock, building each room to her specifications
The story goes after Mr. Winchester died, his widow was worried the ghosts of whoever had been killed by someone who used a Winchester firearm would come to haunt her, so she added many rooms to confuse the ghosts.
In the movie, it's also in San Jose. The only part in SF is the beginning where the psychiatrist was living.
Not 13 nails in the doors, the spiritualism is greatly exaggerated in the movie. However if you are observant you will find a lot of 13 within the house. From number of steps in stairs, coat hangers, balls on the outside railings, window panes, stained glass motives, and many more. Some are pointed out by the guides - some you have to discover for yourself. If you go for the "Discover more tour" you will see a lot more of the house and you will also learn more rational reasons for many of the strange features of the house.
I've been here a few times and I myself have never seen any ghost there. Ive even been on a midnight flashlight tour on Halloween night. Which was AWESOME! Long time ago staff members have claimed to see the ghosts of people that built the house.
There is a large lot on site and overflow parking next door at the former Century Theaters.
If you take the tour you will find out why she made the house so big
Phone, print out and talk to the staff, very friendly staff
They always have tickets to accommodate large parties just call or show up
Yes it is
We just showed and got the tickets but had to wait an hour for the next available tour so it's good to book ahead.
There's an additional tour for an extra fee. That includes the original tour as well. It's $49. And for the extra money, its worth it.
$39 per adult. There are coupons around for $3 off. {I found my coupon at the brochure area in my hotel.)
40 minutes.
There are a couple different tours which last from 1 hour to 2.25 hours. You are not allowed to wander the house on your own but can stay in the public areas & gift shop as long as you wish during their normal operating hours. Prices range from $17- $49
We went on a whim. The line for tickets was short as was the wait for our tour to start. Highly recommend a restroom pit stop before the tour.
Sip
They're open on Sundays, but the holiday may affect the hours.
No, weekdays are probably less busy unless it's a big holiday where many people have off. Weekends, I would buy the desired time slot you want in advance to be safe. Just a suggestion, not a better do or else kinda thing. Just be sure to go sometime. The house is beautiful and amazing! Enjoy!
At the gift shop but you really should buy online if you want to get the time you want instead of waiting around all day
It depends on how you see it.
Went on the extra tour and went up in part of the attic
There is many doors..
Between $ 40 and $ 50, (children pay less, I do not remember how much) there are 2 types of tour, the $ 50 tour takes you through more places inside the house.
Website, under contact us. Usually at the bottom
In the state of Utah.
We were there 2 weeks ago and they advertised night tours every Friday the 13th!
Our guide told us someone gets lost at least once a month. So it's pretty common. Unfortunately I don't have some epic story to tell.
Why not call our check out their website
There are a lot of stairs and narrow hallways. I can't imagine it would be very accommodating to a handicapped person.
This is s museum. Check the theater's for the movie.
I visited that house, and for me it wasn't haunted. Sarah had it continuesly built in order to deflect any 'so called' ghosts away. It was VERY interesting. It was my second time seeing it and I enjoyed it. Actually it was just right for me, as I am about 4ft.10, so I got through the doorways perfectly.
No
Don't recall if they said it was rebuit , but I was there this last Tuesday and saw the bell in it's setting. The bell that was supposed to have been rung every night at midnight and again at 2 am. They said that they ring it 13 times on Friday the 13th at 1 o' clock.
Google states that Palo Alto is 17.6 miles from San Jose. About 24 to 28 minutes drive. Depends on route and traffic.
I respected their rules, I guess you could get away with it
I probably wouldn't. I had lived in quite a few haunted houses. One nothing happened until 2 years after living there so I think it was targeting me since I was the only one home. it was weird because there are a lot of things happening that when I thought about it it was just like those spook shows. How there's cold and hot spots and smell of old wood and even what I thought was rat urine. That's how a haunted house I used to live in smelled and it had a lot of the same carpentry it was built around the same time. This house has a lot of occult symbols. It was weird that end of the second tore I looked up at the door hinges and it had engraved occult symbols. And her love of the number 13. And my children said they saw a carving or something Baphomet. I think they're still negative energy there
Yes
If you mean average amount of time, it is very variable. Some just purchase and go, others stick around up to 20-30 minutes
Halloween tour is the best it's at Night by flashlight probably best chance to see a ghost
Breast question so far, but i have no idea.
Nope.
People have a greater interest in this stuff. Maybe the production company gave the owners an offer they couldn't refuse
I saw some incidents on some ghost shows.
Not at all accurate.
Some say. The story goes after Mr. Winchester died, his widow was worried every person who was killed by someone who used a Winchester firearm would come to haunt her.
Better Halloween and another holiday
My understanding is they have special equipment to help with non-English speaking visitors. Everyone in my tours spoke or understood English...
They do serve food
They have photos of workers. Not sure of the year
I went around 1:30 p.m. and I didn't see any spirits. the Seance room got all four of us light-headed anxious and we felt really really funny. it was really weird we felt like that almost the moment we walked in and we weren't told the first what type of room it was. When we are all stepped out we instantly felt better
It is fun. Like Jeff s. I really liked the gun museum. Also the Earth quake damage from the 06 quake is really cool
Until Sarah Winchester died in 1922. There were no living relatives who wanted the house, in the 30s a gentleman bought the mansion for $125,000
Yes they do and they flashlight for the tour.
I paid about ~$40 per person for the shorter tour (which lasts about 90 minutes).
See Jeri Wagner's guide response...we were just there(6 days ago)
It depends they have defferent tours if you explore more ,you pay more .
Main tour is about 40. The explore more is about 50.
No one is hunting this house. It's out in the open and no one had tried to hunt it. If you mean haunted, it's not that either.
The city of San Jose subcontract to a tour company
Lore says yes.
In a way, you get to decide. The tour guides tell you they are still haunting the house, and the house has sound affects installed to make you believe ghosts are still there.
Yes. The Explore More Tour goes to the boiler room, but it is a limited time offer for this tour...so go soon!
There's the Cody Firearms Museum, but no, no Winchester museum specifically as far as I'm aware. I'd check out the Cody Museum though!
No, nothing like that has happened, unless you want to believe in it!
If you go on the website it will give you all the closed holidays and I believe Christmas is on the list but not Christmas eve.
$36 for the mansion tour, $47 for the mansion tour abd the Explore More tour. I recommend the $47 tour.
Upcoming horror movie Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built. The film, set for a February 2018 release, was shot partly in the real Winchester House in San Jose and stars Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren as Sarah Winchester, widow of millionaire gun manufacturer William Winchester.
Normally there is someone taking you around, also there are a lot of people with you
I didn't find anything haunted abt the place. Some corners are spooky but for the most part i felt it was depressing more than haunted. Its definitely mysterious though, the way it is built and the story behind it.
Its a historical house a tourists attraction ( or "trap") - not for sale for sure.
They'll tell you all about the house on the tour. They offer a short tour and one that's longer and takes you thru more rooms
She was into that number... couple different theories as to why, most dealing with the mysticism that she was into.
They were in the middle of installing it 3 months ago so most likely now there is.
There was no litte kid, but she was little, almost everything is sized for her.
The mansion? No. The mansion was created by Sarah Winchester after her husband passed away.
It's not closing. I was there earlier this month and we've been informed that they are opening more rooms for public to view plus there has been a film shooting in progress.
It is not scary at all. I went when I was quit little with my mother. I loved it so much I went back when I was in my 30s. I am from Texas not California
