*Check Groupon the day before if you can, they have good deals but not on the same day* There's never a charge to tour the gardens, you can go anytime they are open. Even in the winter there are beautiful plants and trees and incredible old statues. It also gives you an opportunity to look at the architecture from the outside. I highly suggest at least the basic tour if you're going to the escape room anyway. Usually there is an add on tour for a small additional fee that takes you places the basic does not.
I went in the first week of January, too early/cold for any of the plants to bloom so the really was nothing interesting to see
