No, weekdays are probably less busy unless it's a big holiday where many people have off. Weekends, I would buy the desired time slot you want in advance to be safe. Just a suggestion, not a better do or else kinda thing. Just be sure to go sometime. The house is beautiful and amazing! Enjoy!
They do have a ticket booth their but you should get them online because you will be able to get the time you want and not just what's available

No, you don't. But I'm glad we did because at the time we booked our tour (11 a.m.) the line for the tickets was pretty long. And i believe sometimes they sell out. (We tried to buy tickets for last week and they were sold out for the tickets we wanted)
