I REMEBER THE ALAMO
Christine Fritz
We stopped in around noon on a Wednesday and there was a crowd out front to take pictures in a few areas but overall there was no lines. Parking can fill up fast but if you know enough about downtown it isn't difficult. I don't and it was a nightmare for me. Anyway it's really interesting and not too expensive to visit.

Having grown up in S.A., made me sad to see all of the commercialization going on by The Alamo!

Beautiful place

The Alamo itself does not have a basement, however 2 buildings on the property do have basements. One of which does house a replica of Pee Wee Herman's bike.
My great uncle, Eleil Melton died at the Alamo. He was married to Jauna Losoya whose mother was Concepcion Losoya, wife of Juan Losoya.
There is the original flooring under the limestone flooring that the public walks on but no basement as we know a basement to be. There might be some other building with a basement on the grounds but it isn't in the Alamo building.
Yes you just get in line and you get to walk into the old building
San Antonio de Valero actually nothing, the Spanish built it
It's the real Alamo... much like the other San Antonio missions... it's not completely original... additions and restorations (like most buildings) happened over the years.
Yes, Davy Crockett built it himself. Sarcasm is a gift, lol.
Parking in downtown San Antonio is limited and expensive. If you want to visit the Alamo, park your rig at a San Antonio Walmart, truck stop, etc, and Uber there and back.
There are some street parking not far from there You can also park in the mall that is very nearby
I'm not sure either. I say check the website or get be them a call.
I didn't ask, good question!!! They didn't mention it on the tour that I heard
Many believe but for me no it’s not you can just go and relax.
WS founded in 18th century. One of five missions in San Antonio. Battle 1836
No, admission to any part of the Alamo grounds is free.
Not before but after the women/children and slaves were given a blanket and a little money
Nope. There's NO place for them to go potty, and it really isn't a place for dogs.
I was there and really beautiful and very well organized
Yes you may. Just as long u don't mark on statue and you need to provide your own supplies
Yes, to visit the Alamo we usually park at the River Center Mall just because it's the closest besides you can pay your ticket in the mall. It's a short distance and you can visit most of the attractions in that area. Definitely the tour bus is a great option also. San Antonio also has a trolley as well. Besides that, there is a park and ride Via bus service. Look for that info on line, we usually do this during #Fiesta events. I hope this clarify your question. Best wishes! Enjoy San Antonio!
Nothing weird here.Just people defending their right to be free.A few hundred banded together against several thousand and were able to buy enought time for Sam Houston to build a real militia to defeat Santa Anna later. They knowingly gave their lives for Texas. No sir nothing weird just a thing called bravery.
Free entrance to the Alamo
In 1845, the United States annexed Texas. For many years afterward, the U.S. Army quartered troops and stored supplies at the Alamo. In 1883, the state of Texas purchased the Alamo, later acquiring property rights to all the surrounding grounds.

Think they are closed, Christmas Eve and Christmas day as well
It's free to enter but you have an option to pay 7 for an audio tour or 35 for a guided your or you can just walk round for free
Recently, most San Antonio Attraction have gotten very crowded as the population has increased. Also, more visitors are from out of State have moved to Texas & visit San Antonio. My advise is EARLY week-days are less congested. ENJOY GREAT SAN ANTONIO!!!
I would pick Tuesday or Wednesday
Sea World is not too far, makes it nice to fit these two sites in one day.
The Alamo is an old Spanish mission (like a churchbuilt by Catholic missionaries to minister to the natives) that is in what is now San Antonio, Texas, United States. The Alamo was authorized in 1718 but was not built until 1744. The original name was San Antonio de Valero Mission. The Alamo is most famous for The Battle of the Alamo, which took place during 1836. It was occupied by 187 men from Texas and around the world who were fighting for the independence of Texas from what was then Mexico. On March 6, 1836, the men in the Alamo were defeated by a force of 5,000 Mexican troops. General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was the general for the Mexican army.[1]All 187 Texans were killed, and "Remember the Alamo!" became the battle cry of the Texas Revolution. The battle ended on March 6, 1836, when the defenders were executed.[2]
Good question! There's many places to park and load off by bus nearby the Alamo. There are some by Rivercenter Mall, LA Villita, and By the Alamo itself. Hope I could help. Most have a limit for loading and unloading and the max. Of 20 minutes.
Alamo is well maintained, with a lot to see both in and out of shrine ⛩
Dear Yanet, the Alamo is one of the original missions developed by Franciscan Missionaries that were part of the colonizing effort of Spain back in the 17th and 18th Centuries. Here is what I found in Wikipedia: "The Alamo is an old Spanish mission (like a church built by Catholic missionaries to minister to the natives) that is in what is now San Antonio, Texas, United States. The Alamo was authorized in 1718 but was not built until 1744. The original name was San Antonio de Valero Mission."
If you want a tour, then there is a fee for the rental. However these do sell out. There is no cost to enter. However you may make a donation, sometimes in giving you receive more.
No fee to enter but the experience is most humbling. Donations are accepted and any amount is appreciated. Considering what the men who fought and died in order for Texas to become the Republic of Texas, I always donate when I go there. I took my grandkids there a few days ago. They loved it.
Hello it's well kept. They repair it in the regular if you visit have fun😎
There are from $5 to $30. It depends on the distance to the city center. I went closer more expensive.
It is very popular. I recommend sure. It is very historic and part of its history.
There are parking places around the whole Alamo buildings and there are a few parking garages
Out of Respect for men who died there. Rule for inside the Church also called the Shrine
It is free, but reserve your free ticket online to make sure you get to look at the church.
Drive down to San Antonio from Dallas and visit it. The Alamo is located there its only a day trip from Dallas unless you decide to stay in San Antonio there is alot to do there so worth the visit
In 1836 Santa Anna marched into Texas to quell a rebellion primarily by U.S. settlers there. During this expedition, Texas declared its independence from Mexico. His army defeated Texan forces at the Alamo and Goliad before moving eastward to the San Jacinto River, where he was defeated and captured by Gen.
Not anywhere near it. O ky two small parking areas near it.
It was the scene of a heroic stand by American troops vs Santa Anna's army who were trying to invade. Only one American survived the attack that went on for 16 days. "Remember the Alamo" became a war cry when the US later struck back. Davy Crockett was one of the American leaders who died there. So that's why.
There are public parking garages within walking distance. They are clearly marked.
No they do not, areas are accessible, some may pose a challenge but the staff is there to assist. You can contact www.wheelchairgetaways.com for reservations and rentals.
Outside yes... But the interior will be closed to the public.
It's part of our pay and it can help use in our future
None. The real alamo was never used. There is a scale replica, elsewhere in Texas, laid out just like the original Alamo. This site is in open country with similar topographical layout as the Alamo. THAT site was used for movies, since the real Alamo is surrounded by the high rise buildings of modern day San Antonio........ actually, I stand corrected. Movies set in the battle for the Alamo never used the Alamo, but the historical site was. At least once....."Pee Wee's Big Adventure" shows Pee Wee Herman (Paul Reubens) walking up to the Alamo entrance. But no, I do not know of ANY movies about the Alamo being filmed at the actual alamo.
It depends on city officials, witch I want to say I SHOULD be cuz protesting has stopped here.
Not sure either in a Air BnB like 2 miles away Sorry but Just looked 1:20 minutes
There were many other buildings that were there before that are now long gone. The battlefield however was not in the exact spot. The remaining part is still in its original location.
You still will be able to everything and enjoy yourself, well except just watch out for the homeless and don't carry too much cash on u or take out any belongings around the homeless especially ur wallet
If you do the tour yes but for outside viewing and pics it's free
Hi Sergio, for buses I did not see, there are for cars for a time of 12 hours, I remember 15 dls, greetings
Beginning in the early 1800s, Spanish military troops were stationed in the abandoned chapel of the former mission. Because it stood in a grove of cottonwood trees, the soldiers called their new fort “El Alamo” after the Spanish word for cottonwood and in honor of Alamo de Parras, their hometown in Mexico.
It's true that David Crockett and James Bowie fought the Mexicans, but at the Battle of Alamo, Bowie was very ill in bed. In fact, Bowie was killed in his sickbed. David Crockett fought in the Alamo, but was also killed. The only survivors of Alamo were women, children and a Travis slave named Joe.
Only outside
You can make it longer if you chose to spend the time to really observe the grounds.
During the day, yes
No its not and i good with that. Buy your Alamo gift across the street save a ton of money.
Not happening here to my knowledge, online, .......you know. San Antonio one of the best towns in the U.S.!
Because is a old Buliding and history
For me and my husband it took an hour, as we were taking a lot of pictures.
Originally to convert the local Native Americans.
I believe the had about 7 of them including an 8 pounder (which was the biggest one).
They are allowed on the sidewalks and the outside of the Alamo. However, they are not allowed anywhere in the buildings themselves.
I like the river center parking all day price for 20 dollars and you can take the elevator to any floor you want and it opens up right into the mall. The street level is right around the corner from the Alamo.
The Alamo is free thanks to the brave sacrifice of many heroic Texicans! Parking is gonna cost you though.
We just went yesterday and only did the self guided tour. Didn't see the guided tour pricing, sorry.
They tell you there, or you can find out on the Alamo page on Wikipedia.
The Alamo is made from limestone and deteriorating more each year due to poor drainage..they are getting ready to start a renovation project set to be completed by 2024..once complete it will be a world organization location
Yes
It's open but not every place is available
It is free to go inside but you can pay for guided tours.
Yes Bolero from spain
It free no charge, it is Fiesta week everywhere streets are closed
No Graves are at San Fernando Church yard, couple of blocks from Alamo
Check out this site regarding the knife. http://www.texasescapes.com/MurrayMontgomeryLoneStarDiary/Jim-Bowies-Knife.htm
The Battle of the Alamo (February 23 – March 6, 1836) was a pivotal event in the Texas Revolution. Following a 13-day siege, Mexican troops under President General Antonio López de Santa Annareclaimed the Alamo Mission near San Antonio de Béxar (modern-day San Antonio, Texas, United States), killing the Texian and immigrant occupiers. Santa Anna's cruelty during the battle inspired many Texians, both legal Texas settlers and illegal immigrants from the United States, to join the Texian Army. Buoyed by a desire for revenge, the Texians defeated the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto, on April 21, 1836, ending the rebellion.
It's got what plants crave, it's got electrolytes.
I was just there and it's beautiful place to visit it's best to go during the weekday to avoid a lot of Travelers passing through for that reason I went on a Saturday and I stood in line for three hours and I just couldn't deal with it so I came back during the week and I was maybe in line 45 minutes so there's a big difference in the days
None. They were Texas soldiers!
The Alamo in 1718 supposed, the mission church in 1744. Again so they say.
The Alamo itself is free to walk through. If you want a guided tour for an hour it's $15 or $10 for Veterans.
The Alamo is free to get in, but a charge for the self-guided audio tour.
No no pictures or film. They inform you upon entry. Still worth visit
Guided tours are $15 for an hour. $10 for military, active and veteran.
Yes and yes. You will need to enter the church and then exit it to approach the grounds through the ground's exit. Sidewalks will allow you traverse the grounds.
There are a few truck stops not too far away, that you should be able to uber or taxi to. The downtown area has hundreds of shops, the river walk filled with historical sights and dining. Along the streets you'll find the Alamo and several museums a short walking distance. It's really a place you can spend a few minutes or the whole day depending on how much time you have.
Yes
The Alamo is an 18th century mission church. It was built to convert local natives to Christianity.
The Alamo is free, but pleasr consider renting the sudio headset for a narrative account that help you understand more of the history of the Alamo.
There are no tours .. but the outside is always available
If you visit the grounds and the church is free. You pay only if you need a guide.
No, they don't that I know of. Pictures are not allowed though.
Was part of the Mexican American war. Texas was originally northeastern Mexico but not really part of Mexico when the war started. Then, General Santana, was trying to rule all of Mexico but the locals told hon to bug off. Americans were involved because we shared the territory. Kinda like Native Americans in the west. The Alamo, being a Spanish mission, was the last standing Army, Santana had to defeat. He originally won the battle of the Alamo, but was then destroyed by Sam Houston of the Continental Army.
13 days
Crockett stands alone, still proudly and tenaciously defending his diminished position. A frightful gash angles across his forehead. Holding the barrel of his shattered rifle in his right hand and a Bowie knife dripping with blood in his left, Crockett faces his attackers with the courage of a lion. Twenty dead or dying Mexicans lie beneath his buckskin-clad feet. The man from Tennessee crouches, daring his attackers to take him. As they move in for the kill, Davy swings wildly until he finally falls, fighting like a tiger until his last dying breath. The fight is over.
So it appeared in the movies.
Just one
Yes , the tour guides are more likely to know that
It is open 364 days a year. It only closes on Christmas.
Explore the grounds, listen to historical talks, walk through the church/museum.
There are many parking places all nearby the Alamo, but the Alamo itself doesn't have any. If you try parking in the back then your car will be towed since that is employee only parking.
I am not sure. You might want to Google it or ask someone at the Alamo.
Take a tour and buy some books before you go so you can ask the right questions. Also go see the other Missions. You will love them all. So much history.
It is open to the public. No pictures in the church. Pictures are allowed on the grounds. No flash pics inside
Spain
Hello, the entrance was free. You only need a little time down the line.
River Center Mall (watch Imax' The Alamo: Price of Freedom and get 3 hours free parking - movie is only 50 minutes) or the parking lot directly behind Alamo is just as easy and affords to opportunity for vehicles that have a higher clearence and cannot enter parking garages.
Yes
Beef and corn if am not mistaken
Besides taking a tour, which you can do for free without a tour guide...you can explore San Antonio...and shop
It was in 1718
The Riverwalk is only a few minutes walk from the Alamo and it has a lot of shops and restaurants.
Yes! There are restrooms all the way in the back left corner. Also the maintenance man told me that across the street from the Alamo at the visitors center there are also restrooms. He said that the Alamo and the visitors center building have a contract where they can refer people there to use the restroom as well. When your friends go to the restroom and 30 minutes later there still not back at the front. Well you have to seek out the restroom locations and who better to ask than the friendly worker. So YES they were in the back. I found them glued to the big screen TV back there watching a video about the Alamo! HELLO! People look around! We are at the Alamo. Why watch it on TV. I think all 50+ people watching this video were hypnotized! Nah, not really but kinda weird. So yes bathrooms back left corner. Big Screen History of Alamo video back left corner and Visitors center across the street on the corner.
It's free..but if you do the audio tour it's $7..if you have a guided tour it's $35
Mexicans and north Americans , fighting about land, power, etc
This is a completely indecipherable question. But here is what I'm guessing you're looking for... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Alamo
There is no cost for admission to the Alamo. But I don't know about the other missions.
Parking limited and costly this was in october. must do the river walk awesome
They txt our picture to us
Dogs are not allowed inside the buildings at the Alamo. https://vacationpetfriendly.com/are-dogs-allowed-at-the-alamo/
Almost.
Yes, there are pay lots nearby. My son was able to park his Chev 2500 pu no problem.
Yes but only main bldg, as soon as you leave into the yard it is nothing but open space no air-con
You can find some free parking, but it will be somewhat of a walk to get to Alamo (in most cases). There are parking garages and lots nearby that charge approximately $10 for parking.
If you want a tour guide, yes. But like many museums, admission is free, they only ask for a voluntary contribution. To use the tour guide is $ 15 per adult, children under 8 are free, regularly $ 9.00.
Two of them were:Crockett & Bowie(They were from Tennessee & Arkansas)I'm sure they lived at the Alamo a few days while defending it.
You would have to park outside downtown and bus or take a Lyft they are very affordable just go to Google maps and hit directions 😁
I am not a local there so i couldn't tell you that.
The siege at Alamo was February 23 , 1836. The building in San Antonio we call the Alamo originally was built as the chapel of the Mission San Antonio de Valero. Valero mission was established at San Pedro Springs in present-day San Antonio in 1718 by Fray Antonio de San Buenaventura y Olivares, a Franciscan missionary of the College of Santa Cruz de Querétaro
Alamo is open. We were there on Tuesday, June 5. You must get the $7 dollar phone set and just follow the audio numbers licated in each exhibit inside and outside of the Alamo complex. The phone audio has clear historical accuracy and guides you through each exhibit. I was a history major in college, and taught Texas history, and the phone audio historical narrative taught me a few new facts that the history books left out. You must also see the other 7 missions.
Yes but it is busy before the Bush family takes it over and Jack's it up
The Alamo was a mission first. Read some history before going and it will be more meaningful when you get there.
Do you have a picture of it by any chance ?
View on the idea. So settlers bascially stood against the mexican government and small battles started breaking out which lead to a war of independence from Mexico.
Yes I believe that there was an ordered execution of survivors by Santa Anna, but there could have been survivors who escaped
Pets not allowed unless service certified animals.
I don't know but I have been there twice and Every time it's very busy. It's also one of the mosted places in the United states
They do not charge anything you can enter like this
Guided tour is $14. Audio tour with headsets at your own pace is $7
A most visit if you want to experience Texas fully. It isn't the most entertaining museum in Texas, but definitely one of the greatest to any Texan.
The building itself roughly the size of a house. The original structure included walls, and fortirications that extend far beyond what it is today. It was started by the Spanish as a church/fort (San Antonio was vital to control Texas, and supply further inland areas), and was unfinished when used by the Texans to hold off the Mexican empire during their independence war.
Reservations are not required. There is a self guided tour. Be aware the line gets longer as the day progressed. The guided tour is about an hour, we paid $45 for 4 adults, with the tour you entered the mission slipping the line and got to go into a room the public does not have access too.
You are much better to Google the Alamo than to ask random people who might get history wrong. But it is a Spanish mission that was established to teach American Indians Christianity. The famous politician Davy Crockett died there Battle of the Alamo in 1836 where he and 200 other Texans gave their lives trying to defend it against the Mexicans.
For most part yes, Gen. Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana of the Mexican army decimated the little mission of the Alamo killing almost everyone one except one slave named John to tell the story. Little did Santa Ana know that this would be a battle cry to his own demise, "Remember the Alamo." Gen. Sam Houston used it to fuel the fire to take him and his forces down.
No They were Fighting for freedom from the Mexicans
The Alamo was a key battlefield in the fight for Texas to gain its' independence from Mexico to become a Republic.
I am not sure if ghosts are haunting the Alamo, but conspiracy theories might exist.
It covers approximately 5 acres about 3 city blocks square. Easily walkable.
The rounded top was added by occupying Union troops during the Civil War. The Alamo was used as a weapons depot at that time. From what I've been told it was added out of shear boredom from the soldiers trying to find something to do.
Santa Anna was victorious after 13 days of fighting Feb 23, 1836 to March 6, 1836.
Try the Via Metro webpage for downtown routes, times, and fares.
Davey Crockett was one of the defenders of the Alamo and was killed there by the Mexican forces. How he was killed is controversial.
Good question
While in San Antonio, we paid as much to park our car as we did to rent it. Nevertheless, it was worth it.
Around 186 to 200
Travis died early in the final battle in which the Alamo fell. His was killedby a bullet to the head.
It is free to enter and do the tour yourself. It is $7 for an audio self-guided tour and $15 for a professional guided tour.
No defenders survived, but several civilains did. Women, children & slaves. Santa Anna wanted witnesses to spread fear among other Texicans & Tejanos
You can get parking for 12hrs nearby and they are all in walkable distance
you can only bring your dog into the alamo only if it is a service dog.
In which I park cost 12 dlls. For 24 hours , but there are also parking in the avenues.
I was just there a couple months ago and they were doing renovations. It was quite obvious they were very meticulous in their work. As another person mentioned, they're very strict about not touching the walls as part of preserving it.
the maximum amount of time you can stay inside the building is from the opening time to closing time.
Stephen F Austin son lived on but he was lost directly to my recorded history but he basically lived a peaceful life and thereafter US Army took over the reins and gained Texas its own independence that's my knowledge of it so far but there might be more recorded history about Stephen F Austin son somewhere
No pictures allowed inside the church or cloisters
San Antonio, Texas
It's free admission to the Alamo. If you would like an audio tour of the Alamo, you can purchase a ticket for that. They do accept donations to help preserve the Historic landmark as well.
No tour required. However the audio tour is well worth it.
As of 2015, the Texas General Land Office controls the Alamo Musume.
I didn't see any animals when I was visiting, so my guess would be no.
Anything
