Very well maintained facility. Always eager to get more volunteers in order to provide the best care for all the animals. Very excited to go back to do volunteer work as well as adopt another fur baby one day!

In January of 2021, I adopted a dog that most would consider to have very difficult behavior. His intake form listed him as a red dot, which I assume is the most unfriendly, aggressive label they give dogs at the shelter. Rather than give up on this dog, they worked with him for 8 months and made an effort to get him in a foster home outside of the stressful shelter environment. When their hard work paid off and the dog showed signs of being willing to trust people, I found him on their website and adopted him. If you can’t already tell by the pictures, he is the happiest boy and has been to 23 states and 2 countries - traveling with me. He’s still not a huge fan of strangers, and is a little too good at being a watch dog, but I wouldn’t trade him for any other companion. It would have been easy for this shelter to give up on him and I’m sure many other shelters would have, but because they didn’t I now have the most wonderful dog. Couldn’t be more grateful for the staffs’ time and patience so that I could eventually find Jasper.

Bella and Camilla are by far the most compassionate, caring, and knowledgeable employees. I highly recommend these two ladies for their expertise on adoption for your future fur baby. Thank you ladies for all that you do, and your help with my friend’s kitten. We appreciate you!
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
They should.
Thank you for your donation, and sorry for loss!
Yes! Yes they have a program that helps community members with food, supplies and medical for their pets. And like Tessa said, "they love hell walking the pups and playing with the meows!" Check it out and meet some dedicated animal caregivers... AND some super fan furry friends!
Janey - yes! At the very least it could be used by the foster program.
There is a guinea pig rescue in Austin. Google is your friend
Yes it is and you get to meet people
I'd call them, the city isn't likely with it enough to respond here
Yes, if it is not being treated for anything. If it has anything wrong with it, they fix it first.
You can make an owner Surrender appointment on the AAC website. They are several weeks out because the shelter is so full.
Yes , they even give them all there shots including rabies shots and they give them a microchip and so they do all of that for free right now all the pets inside there including rabbits and guinea pigs are free also
Yes, as long as no one claims it in a set time determined by the shelter.
What is the question? We have many animal rescues in the Austin, Travis county area.
Yes they do. http://www.austintexas.gov/department/adopt-pet you can sort the adoptable pets by size.
You need to make an online appt
post is probably typo for lost. For OP, Please advertise lost dogs on your local facebook lost and found or nextdoor. Is Piland Triangle near Circuit of Americas?
Puppies are more expensive than older dogs. When I am was there a couple of weeks ago, puppies were $225.
You never know, they might. It's a shelter for abandoned and unwanted pets. Go have a look at the dogs, maybe you'll see a German Shepherd or maybe you'll see something else you will want. Take a couple of dogs out for a walk while you're there, the dogs love the attention.
I've seen them there before but Maciej is right. You have to check the website. I would suggest going there in person because sometimes the new dogs aren't posted for a few days, and by then they're adopted.
Make sure you get there right at 11 when they open.
also depends on the age of the adoptee. we just adopted 16 year old cat. no charge because of age and need.
Shes.not a stray. I only had her for 3 short years. And I really need to find her another home. Right now as of Feb we have been struggling. And it has come to this point to where I need to find her someone who can better provide.
EMANCIPET.org can do sterilization and sterilization at low cost. Call them to ask about the mobile clinic or to make an appointment at one of their places. I think I paid only $ 25.00 when I took my dog, but in some areas it's free. The main location is behind the Austin Animal Shelter on Levander Loop Road.
EMANCIPET.ORG can help you. Go to their site to learn more
You need to go to someone tomorrow after 11 to apply. They sure will have one.
You can, they are open weekends. Otherwise you could call the city but that may take days and in this weather the pup would suffer.
The shelter will also post pictures of animals when they arrive, usually within an hour or two. Go to their website, click on los a pet, specify a dog, and what other details you have. You can sort results by the amount of time the animal has been there. Good luck, I hope you find your dog.
Yes take the dog there this is a no kill shelter
You can't adopt a monkey in this location since it's an animal hospital. You could try some rescues but monkeys are very hard to find in Texas. The ones you find don't necessarily come from an ethical and good place.
You need to call them and make an appointment
Absolutely! Blankets and towels are always needed :)
You will need to make an appointment with Austin Animal Center in order to surrender your pets. Keep in mind that while Austin is a "no-kill" city it doesn't mean that your dogs will not be at risk of euthanasia. "No-kill" is defined as 90% or higher live outcome rates which means they could possibly still euthanize 10% of the animals that go through the shelter. Typically animals are only euthanized due to health or behavior issues though, and Austin Animal Center's numbers are usually around 96% live outcome. Good luck with your dogs. I'm sorry you have to give them up.
Not for owned animals, but there is an Emancipet clinic in the same parking lot (grey building green roof) that will accept walk ins for vaccinations, and flea/tick and heartworm meds
They forward anything they don't use to other rescues so yes.
Unless a discounted sale day the fees are typically $75. Which includes a spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip implant, and if a dog a nylon collar and engraved tags. Check out the website under Adoption for more details.
If you bring the dogs into Austin Animal Center (and you live in Austin or Travis County) they will take them as a surrender. Explain that the owner passed away (they might need proof-an obituary or funeral program/booklet will work) and you tried rehoming them but couldn't. They will work on finding them a home, but it cannot be guaranteed that they will stay together (just so you know before you bring them in). Good luck!
I'm not sure if they offer treatment. I'd call Emancipet, it's at the same location, on the same property. Good luck with your dog! I know how terrible that is! Hope this helps
You have to call and make an appointment before going ...
No fees for surrender.
The center has not yet sent out any communication about being at capacity, however, it is always helpful if the finders of animals are willing to hold on to them for a few days (especially if you found the pet in your neighborhood). Call 311 to file a found animal report. If you are an owner wishing to relinquish your pet, you need to set up an appointment - call 311 and ask to be transferred to the Austin Animal Center.
Ask them at the front desk- they might.
Thanks a lot. It can be delivered to the Center during business hours, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday. The schedule has changed. They are there to receive donations on Saturdays and Sundays as well.
Yes they do! I would recommend calling ahead. Sometimes you will need to make an appointment for drop off.
Yes, if they were found in the Travis County area and intake is not closed, then they should accept the puppies.
It smells like a nursing home just let you dogs and it pets run for free that's how true life is
Normally you can. The shelter is very full but I think they take stray animals in Monday-Friday.
If they are not chipped then all they can do is search the area they were found in but due to short staff, all they can do is post a pic on their lost and found page and hope the owner looks for them. Some go to foster care with the understanding someone might claim. AAC is a no kill shelter.
Yes but they will make you fill out paperwork saying that you can't care for her first.
I would think so! I would definitely call them and ask, I'm sure they would love one!
Make an intake appointment. I don't believe they charge, but they will help the puppies get spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and into good homes. If you rehome them yourself, PLEASE have them spayed/ neutered first.
When we went a little over a month ago, no fees then. It does vary.
I recommend going to their website and looking at the available pets. You filter the selection to cats and baby/young and see what's available.
Go there and look around. Wear a mask.
We cannot use carpeted cat trees because they can't be sanitized between cats. Find a friend or neighbor for that, but we can use litter boxes for sure!
You can take it to Austin Animal Center, or call 311
Yes, AAC takes sick and injured animals.
I would definitely call 311 and report my concerned.
Yes they do! They're pretty full up right now. So call in advance to make an appointment. And intake is only open on weekdays.
Id call them for that question' may be okay as long as its not expired- call 311 for help
If you call 311, APOs will assist with sick and injured wildlife. Austin Wildlife Rescue deals with rehabilitation and release.
The asterix is there if we named the dog. If it was surrendered with that name, there is no asterix.
I would also try Austin pets alive
Yes you can but they did tell me that they are at a really high capacity.
Yes, no need for an appointment anymore. They're open to the public every day 11am - 6pm
Good evening The staff is wonderful and very helpful however the only thing that I didn't like was that when I adopted my cats I had picked out a cat on their website and hit the adopt Now button but apparently it's a first-come-first-serve basis . However the Two Sisters I did get were brought back in less than a week and now they have a forever home the black one is named Hecate and the tortoise shell is named Sparkle because she just shines neither one can stop licking me I don't know if they are grateful thirsty or just tasting me in case I suddenly died and can no longer operate a can opener LOL either way everybody's happy
You can drop them off. If you call they'll pick them up
I would think you will be able to get her back from your bestfriend
Austin animal shelter. Call or visit. Walk-in after 11:00 a.m.
Yeah, what I found on the website they provided me, was a lot of mixed breed and most of them 9 of 10, were Senior dogs.
All adoptions are currently virtual due to stage 5 restrictions
You have to call and ask. I was not able to go online and see. So i called and went in person to see the puppies
No. You can always call 311 to verify but I'm sure you can adopt as they will even adopt to people with convictions for animal cruelty and neglect.
From what I understand, that is currently true due to Covid restrictions
I don't work at the Austin Animal Center but the best way to see the dogs available for adoption is to go to their website or call them. You can get more info here: http://www.austintexas.gov/department/adopt-pet
Yes and the strays
From what I have seen you now require an appointment in order to visit.
I think it's usually $50, but they waive the fee many times to adopt more pets.
I have no idea. Call them. 🌞
Call 311 tell them your situation and they can start the process..
Hi Christian, You can see the dogs they have available here https://www.austintexas.gov/content/austin-animal-center
Hi Sandra, I believe they are. But they are encouraging people to try to find a good home first for the pup. As they are overcrowded. They will accept dogs. You would need to schedule an appointment.
Yes . You have to, but is really easy and the staff are very nice
Awww...i hope so.he needs tlc... More than likely they will, but really it is up to them whether they do or not..
I am so sad to hear about this & I know you must be heart broken. Yes, but you'll need to make an appt when surrendering an animal.
A vet should euthinize. No one else. A vet can also figure out why your dog is seizing. Maybe he/she has years of qualuty life left. Call Emancipet. Budgeted for seniors. Traveling clinic does shots, etc. Call around for a vet who can help you.
I do not know inside excuse me I can not talk more thanks blessings
Idk. They do discount the fee if shelter gets too crowded
Just take it to aac so they can check for chip.
No
Yes but a long way (about a block) from handicap parking to the door entry.
If your surrendering your pet. You'll have to make an appointment. Either call 311 they can direct you to online forms or go to your local animal shelter. They will give you the forms and make the appointment for you.
You'll have to call the shelter to ask. Or look on the website there might be a voulenteer application.
Emancipet does free vaccinations for certain zip codes. Rabies vaccine by itself is usually just $10 or so.
Emancipet handles the spaying an neutering normally. Unless you are dropping off a stray they can neuter on site after the hold. Can be 4days to a 2 work weeks from my recollection. You may want to reach out to emancipet though. They are an AAC partner
On certain weekends they have free adoption, but if not they are $75 and that includes, spay or neuter, shots and microchipping. If the animal is considered a senior, then they are free.
What is your question?
call animal control of Austin
Black cats are not typically turned away at shelters, and he or she will be very loved at Austin Animal Center. Take him or her down with no worries!
Austin animal center is the city shelter. You'll undoubtedly find a new family member there if you keep an open mind about the sort of dog you think you want
Thursday 11AM–7PM Friday 11AM–7PM Saturday 11AM–7PM Sunday 11AM–7PM Monday 11AM–7PM Tuesday 11AM–7PM Wednesday 11AM–5PM
Yes, that's a good idea
Call the police. By doing so you cause there to be a report which will help to insure the accountability of all those involved.
Show paper work for dog and they will help you get him back
Yes, please do so at your soonest convenience.
Technically, you have 72 hours to claim a lost/stray animal, after that, it is no longer yours. But you can certainly call or go in person and maybe they will pass on your contact info to the adopting people...
That depends on your age. Here is what is on the AAC website: 13 and 14-year-olds may volunteer with an adult who is also a volunteer 15 and 16-year-olds must have an adult attend orientation with them but can volunteer independently
Yes, the Austin Animal Center will take them. I recommending putting an ad on FB or Craigslist first to see if you can find them a new home as they will be kept in cages until adopted from AAC.
You should try to bring in a stray to their facility, if you possibly can.
Austinanimalcenter.org
Yeah, they have 5! You can see all the adoptable pets they have by going to www.austintexas.gov/adoptablepets
The shelter has all kinds of breeds rotate through. Keep an eye on the available dogs section of the website for new arrivals.
Yes, they take animals daily - Mon.-Fri .11am-7pm, Sat.-Sun. 11am-5pm Adoptions are every day 11am -7 pm.
Yes
They have rabbits sometimes not sure about supplies.
http://www.austintexas.gov/department/aac. 11am they open
Depends on if he's neutered - they'll work with you though.
You can check the webpage for available animals and more info.
I'm pretty sure they aren't going to euthanize healthy pups, especially if they are highly adoptable. I'd swing by there and talk to them! They are very helpful.
Call them but there a lot cat and dog rescuers as an alternative
Yes, just call in prior
I'm pretty sure they would..because they told me that if I ever can't take care of my dogs...to take them there
Adopt a Cat. They have a shelter on the north side. Did when i lived there anyway
They do run free adoptions every once in awhile. You would need to call them or look on their website to see when the next one is.
Yes. Take puppy there. However, you might ask around your neighborhood first in case one of your neighbors lost the puppy. Many people use apps like Nextdoor and Craigslist to let neighbors know their pet is missing, also. If I find a cat or dog, I would take the animal's picture and post it on Nextdoor in their Lost and Found category and wait a day for replies. I have found two owners of cats that way.
If you need an answer for this specific question, call the shelter and ask to speak with the adoption staff. They should be able to answer your question.
Go to the police and find out where the dog is.
Call 311 or Austin Animal Shelter.. Or I would even call the Austin Police Department and see why they did and what can be done to get your dog back..
I'd make a public post on Facebook, maybe someone will help you out
Their goal is zero kill.
Yes, a vet on-site who has to spay, neuter, and give medical care for the shelter animals and cats (dogs and cats only). They stay very busy, so, no, sorry, if you need a vet you need to find one who will help you by looking one up. Shelters typically only treat their shelter animals.
Emanicept can help with that! They run mobile clinics, strongly suggest looking up on the website for dates and places.
I'm sorry i do not believe the purchase puppies. You are able to surrender the pup.
Ron O. Wrong!! Animal control is there to deal with rabid wildlife in people's yards or badass dogs that are also a problem. They don't come pick up owned dogs from their owners who just want to re-home the dog. AHS will do that service but they require the person wanting to give up the dog or cat to call them first and set up an appointment to come in to the shelter.
I know that right now adoption fees for dogs are waived because of overcrowding, and I think that's true for cats, too. But best call them and be sure.
If you're in the Travis county area check out Emancapet. They have a mobile unit that does it for free. But you do have to get there early and not be afraid to wait
Emancipet is really close to them could see them from the front door of AAC Im not sure they do spay or neutering here. They will do walk in chips and vaccines for free
Go in ask for the building there in and then go to the building
I would recommend that you go there in person.
I'd ask the vets there
Agreed with Elizabeth Kunkel
I don't know. You need to call them.
Go to 7201 Leander Loop and ask
They gave me an appointment 2 months out when I took a stray in.
If you mean little as in young they have plenty of adorable kittens here for adoption
You can sign up on their website for an orientation. They'll require a criminal background check and fingerprints if you've lived out of state within a certain period of time. Once you go through the on- boarding process, they have a minimum monthly requirement for hours.
If you pull up their website you can view their information; but I think they close at 7pm.
The number should be listed on their website
They usually accept towels and blankets.
That is correct . Only if they have custody.
I don't think there is room in the single shelters for them, they all have the raised beds, easier to hose off in case of accidents. Probably not nneeded, they don't have blankets either.
Yes, they have tons of great dogs, or cats, even rabbits if you like them. They have several "wings" with dogs ready to go, medical issues like mange or heartworms and are being treated, and new dogs that are surrendered or strays. It's a great place, we got a dog about a month ago from there.
The application may be online, you do need to go in for the adoption.
Call and ask
The pet food should only be eaten by the pets.
Search the aac page for dog/small/over 1 year http://www.austintexas.gov/adoptablepets
They have jobs posted on the website
You need to register it on a website. Please call Austin Animal Center and they can tell you where to register it. If your cat gets lose they will find the information you provided during the registration to contact you.
Try find them homes first before going there they are currently very full. You should be able to walk right in
Yes please do. They are a no kill shelter... I foster there... They'll take good care of it
An identification (driver's license, passport or consular card), a proof of address and if you rent, you need the name of the person you rent, so you can have pets at home.
I'm.sure they are. They are always accepting donations. Anything helps.
Yes, you can borrow trapping cages from Austin Animal Center, also the Austin Humane Society. I believe they charge a modest rental deposit which is returned to you when you return the cage. Call them for more info!
If u just found this cat please take to and emergency vet. The aco should pick cat up in am. But yes the aac is a government agency and has a fully operational hospital for animals.
I think that to volunteer without a parent you have to be at least 15. But younger has to have parent present.
Definitely. APA PASS program can offer you temporary assistance
If you want it done at no cost, you must surrender the animal to AAC.
They allow you to surrender or turn in any animal if you live in Travis County. No appointment is required. If the cat is feral, the protocol is to release in the area found. This is standard for any shelter.
Definitely call. They are the nicest people.
Two years ago it cost $50.00 at Emancipet which is the group that works with the city. The micro chip was free and her shots came from my vet. Emancipet does do sliding scale. The spay is done using a local anesthetics while my vet would do it only under general anesthesia for $500.00.
They only give out cages if you are adopting one
She needs to go to the shelter first, and the person interested in foster will need to go to AAC to sign up to foster
Yes, definitely call first
I think they have to have a parent or adult with them.
Not sure what you're asking but the event today is advertised as free adoptions. Pets sure as heck aren't free though!
Go to the austin animal center, that is the only way you can help your dog.
Contact Austin Animal Center. Let them be the judge if this is a case of neglect. Thank you for being aware and concerned about all living creatures :)
Hey Shelby...maybe post a pic and see if u get any prospects. Maybe a message board at church and or work? If not the animal shelter is clean and the attendants serm to be loving. Hope that someone scoops him up with a quickness good luck🐕
There isn't a cost, but you will want to set up an appointment.
You could probably call them and ask. They would know.
Yes you can view them on their website
Pet resource center
Donation? Someone found my dog and took her to this horrible animal shelter, they had neutered her without my consent and made me pay 300 just to get her back (this all happened in one day)
If you were to bring in feral cats, they would be released again in your neighborhood as they will be unable to be adopted.
Animals available vary greatly and can change hour to hour. Your best bet is to go to their website and view pictures of what is available and make an appointment to visit
Even if someone already adopted the dog you abandoned, others can use whatever you bring.
They sometimes have Huskies at the shelter, but not all the time. You will just have to keep checking. I would recommend doing research be ause Huskies need alot of exercise and attention or they will be destructive. Good luck!
The adoption fee is always $75 unless there is an adoption special. You can go on their Facebook to find out when they have specials.
I would imagine so cuz they have so many. If they weren't they would have a mess on their hands. I don't know for sure cuz I am only interested in the cats. Good luck and thanks for going to the Animal Center to get your new friend |:-)
The Aistin Animal Center staff is usually very busy so leave a phone message or email any questions. If referring to a found 311 report use the report number given to you in your communications Once AAC receives the report from 311 and process it they will post a description if it is a live found pet and if you can privide a picture for them to include in their post.
Your best bet would be to go to the shelter, but keep in mind that not all available dogs are in the shelter. Many are being fostered in homes. If they don't have exactly what you're looking for on site, ask about the dogs in foster care. Another thing to keep in mind is these people are all about saving animals. They may not be experts on breed characteristics. Do your own research on what breed of dog sheds the least. Also keep in mind that these animals, like people, need time to adjust to new situations. The most important thing to have ready when you take an animal into your home is your commitment to the animal. A little extra hair or an accident on the floor is no reason to turn an animal's life upside down. If you're not ready for a new member of your family, please don't go.
You can call 311 or the Austin Animal Center to set up a surrender appointment. Try to give them as much information as possible so thst they can get the dogs adopted easier.
If you surrendered the pets, there is a possibility they have already been adopted. You will need to speak to Customer Service, but if you want them back, i would recommend going in asap, because they could get adopted while you are waiting.
I'm sorry but I don't know Spanish :(
I adopted Vivor ( Servior) about a year ago he had been through a lot of trauma. They had to remove his back leg. He still had staples and stiches when I brought him home. Great pet! I commend Austin animal shelter. 10,000nd stars.Vivor is a 🐱.
Because alot more goes on in a shelter than you'd think. They ask you to leave a short message and call back number for a reason so do it or just show up. If you have anymore questions I might be able to assist you.
They do not go for them ,,
You can call and ask, they will explain what it could be. It could be many things though-minor shedding, to a skin allergy. Have you taken him to a vet yet? You should have signed something saying you would need to take him to a vet within 10 days to make sure everything is ok with his health, as it is impossible to thoroughly vet all of the animals that go through the shelter, especially if they appear to be healthy (i'm assuming he did at the time of the adoption). Good luck, and thank you for adopting.
Yes. Anything that we can donate will be helpful. They have a drop off box on the curve, you could just leave it there. Thank you for supporting the AAC.
No, you dont have to bring one. They will provide you with a humane cardboard cat carrier.
Yes
Are you asking in general or are you taking your dog to the animal center? In general if your dog bites someone regardless of severity I'm sure in this day and age they can press charges. This is probably a better question for laywers/law enforcement
16 years, but they must attend orientation with an adult
Yes, but the hours might be different
They are included in the cost of the adoption. If you are looking for a vet, Austin Animal Center does not treat pets from the public, only the animals that belong to the shelter. However, if you are looking for low cost spay/neuter, vaccines and preventative, Emancipet is located in a building at the same location (grey building, green roof) and has multiple locations around Austin-- as well as Thrive vet. Both of these clinic chains have quality service for low price.
Yes. It takes less than 15 minutes. Take information about vaccinations if you have them.
Austin Animal Shelter is a place where roaming cats, dogs and some other pets are taken. They have these pets available for adoption and also do other things as well.
Check all the shelters. There's not just one
Here you can bring them they accept them
Contact the shelter with the animal id for Zeus, and they'll give you contact information for the foster.
It's illegal to force someone to give up their service animal if they have officially been certified.
Texas law states 72 hours, so on the 4th day of their stay, they become city property and can be adopted. Now if we have a line of communication with the owners, we will extend that hold for up to ten days, and sometimes beyond that if need be, but that's only under special circumstances.
