The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World; French: La Liberté éclairant le monde) is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor in New York City, in the United States. The copper statue, a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886.
The Statue of Liberty is a figure of a robed woman representing Libertas, a Roman liberty goddess. She holds a torch above her head with her right hand, and in her left hand carries a tabula ansata inscribed in Roman numerals with "JULY IV MDCCLXXVI" (July 4, 1776), the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. A broken chain lies at her feet as she walks forward. The statue became an icon of freedom and of the United States, and was a welcoming sight to immigrants arriving from abroad.
Bartholdi was inspired by a French law professor and politician, Édouard
No, access to the island is only accessible from ferries that depart from Liberty State Park in Jersey City or Battery Park in Lower Manhattan during regular hours. Any attempt to reach the island after closing time would be trespassing of Federal property.
Yes, you can go into the pedestal as well as climb to the observation room in the statue's head/crown. Pedestal tickets cost no more than standard tickets to the statue island, but they are different tickets and you should get them several days in advance if you want to go at a specific time. Crown tickets are slightly more and should be obtained well (week or even months) in advance.
The copper statue, a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel.
I was just at the Statue of Liberty two weeks ago and we were able to access everything except for the theater and the torch is closed. If you check out my profile you will see that I was able to get plenty of pictures with Miss Liberty you're just not able to go up and touch it that's all.
Yes,The Statue of Liberty was given as a gift to America by France to mark the one hundred year anniversary of American Independence. Frederic Auguste Bartholdi. The sculptor imagined the Statue of Liberty as the majestic Greek Goddesses of the past and also as the working men and women of the present.
No now, in world the of Unity in India is the Tallest statue in the whole world.. And the spring temple of buddha in China is biggest statue... And largest statue is statue of liberty🗽..
Frenchman Edouard de Laboulaye first proposed the idea of a monument for the United States in 1865. Ten years later sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi was commissioned to design a sculpture with 1876 in mind for completion, to commemorate the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence.
Yes. This is a good way of getting to the pedestal (or even the crown) if the tickets from NYC are all sold out. It can be tricky getting to the ferry terminal in Jersey though as it's far away from other public transport.
the Face of the statue was inspired by the face of the mother of the sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi. In the statue's crown there are 25 windows which symbolize the jewels found in those lands
The Statue of Liberty was built in France between 1875 and 1884. It was disassembled and shipped to New York City in 1885. The statue was reassembled on Liberty Island in 1886, although the torch has been redesigned or restored several times since its installation.
Of course, if you can enter, the ferry that takes you to the tour is called Statue Cruises, you can take it in NYC or NJ. The cost of the ticket is $ 19 dollars per adult (13-62), $ 9 children (4-12), $ 14 Senior (62+)
You have to plan it in advance. Buy tickets ahead of time because they sell out fast. The $18 ferry doesn't get you in to see the statue, just gets you across the river and back. Not sure how much it costs to get into the pedestal or the crown.

The statue of Liberty was a gift of the French people to the Americans in celebration of the centenary of their Independence, that is, in 1876. A battle won by the Americans against the British was the motive that led the French to present the U.S
If I am getting it correct you mean remake as "replica". If so, there are over 100 remakes across the world. But none as huge as the original statue in New York.
On the ferry to the Statue of Liberty had about 200 people on it with us and on the island with the Statue there were about 600-700 people. People are constantly coming to and leaving.
Artists chose to portray Liberty in the form of a woman, tapping into this centuries-long tradition. But the purpose of such personifications differed from Classical representations. Whereas personified virtues in ancient Rome were associated with the emperor’s iconography, French Revolutionary artists used personified Liberty to seal key cultural values into the minds of their people.

It was built as a symbol of friendship and joint effort between two free nations, France and the United States. Built by a French sculptor, by the name of Frederic Bartholdi with help from Gustave Eiffel, of the Eiffel Tower same, and it was given as a gift to the United States for it's hundredth anniversary of independence in 1876, for the purpose of reflecting ideals, such as liberty, opportunity, democracy, human rights and peace, but it became more than that after it was erected. That is when it became a symbol of universal freedom to every citizen of the United States and for the people who visit the United States. It was built for the sole reason to show the importance of friendship between free nations and for other nations seeing it, these values our country was founded on and its principle importance of being free and living free. I hope this helps, from the author of 'The Reckoning of Rance.'
If you visit New York city. It is a beautiful city Arushi with waterfront around, with bridges that cross from one area to another crossing large bays. Such entering and leaving Manhattan. The statue is out in one of those areas of water on a island. When it was put there, it was before the time of great air travel, common now. Ships of all kinds brought people and goods to the united states there and great ships with new migrants had to enter there and come to this place. She stood there as the first thing of the united states of America, that they would see. Announcing a welcoming and her given liberty for their freedom. A freedom some might not have ever experienced before. Liberty stands there and everyone that lives this great city, when you visit one day, will be happy to show you where she resides to welcome you.
The Statue of Liberty's exterior is made of copper, and it turned that shade of green because of oxidation. Copper is a noble metal, which means that it does not react readily with other substances. The Statue's copper is only three-thirty-seconds of an inch thick and unusually pure.
It was built from hammered copper and shipped piece by piece, then it was disassembled and shipped. After 21 long years it was carefully erected in place. The man that built the eiffel tower did the steel framework and the copper plating was done by a French sculptor. It is quite possibly one of the greatest works of art of its size.

The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the country of France because France helped America fight during the Revolutionary War. The Revolutionary War was when America fought for freedom (which is another word for liberty) from England's rule. So, when America won the war, France wanted to congratulate America with a special gift. That gift was a statue commemorating America's liberty from England. All through America's growth as an independent nation that statue has stood in New York's harbor welcoming people from all over the world to let them know that when they arrive they have the freedom - the liberty - to live a life without another country's tyranny to hinder their freedom.
Hello david.!
To the Museum of the Statue of Liberty.
At the moment, the island is accessible to observe the grandiose sculpture up close, but the museum that is a few meters away remains closed, as is the interior of the statue itself, including the pedestal and the crown of "Lady Liberty".
By biosecurity issues, phase 4.
Soon it will return to its normality.

You mean : definition,
It is a large copper statue on Liberty Island in New York harbor, depicting a woman holding a burning torch, presented to the U.S. by France & unveiled in 1886.
The Statue of Liberty measures 305 feet 1 inch from the ground to the tip of the flame, and is as tall as a 22-story building. In 1886, it was the tallest structure in New York City. Winds of 50 miles per hour cause the Statue to sway up to 3 inches and the torch up to 6 inches.
the statue only is 151 feet
Three cameras will provide unobstructed panoramas and live views of the famed New York City skyline, along with a front row seat to watch views of the majestic Hudson River and ships in New York Harbor. Two other cameras point back at the Statue.
Is visiting the crown worth it or does the pedestal suffice?

Going to the pedestal doesn't have as many stairs as going up to the crown plus elevator is also an option to the pedestal. The museum in the pedestal is nice and just having pedestal access gets you in there. I really don't think there is much difference in the view between the pedestal and the crown. Plus, I read going to the crown is tight, strenuous and not temperature controlled so I wasn't interested.
Wear mask, don't go into a very crowded group, stay away from people who are sneezing or coughing... Wash hands with soap or handwash, don't touch your face before washing hands, avoid handshake...
Yes, many sections of copper skin on top of an iron skeleton. Originally it was brown. The statue's color changed as a result of oxidation reactions between copper and the air.
I did not have to book in advance. I ought my tickets which were $18 for an adult and $9 for children at the New Jersey Liberty park the same day I went. This included the ferry ride, a stop at Ellis Island, and going into the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty and touring the museum.

The statue was closed for centennial restoration in January, 1884, and reopened during "Liberty Weekend", July 3-6, 1986.
It was closed again after the September 11 attacks in 2001. The base reopened in 2004 and the observation deck at the top of the crown reopened on July 4, 2009.
It was closed a 3rd time for further renovation in October 2011 and reopened one year later, on October 28, 2012.

The statue stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, but the location of the Statue of Liberty has not always been so clear. Originally, the island was known as Bedloe Island and was officially renamed in 1956. Before Lady Liberty inhabited the island, it was home to Fort Wood. The fort was built in the shape of an eleven-point star, upon which the statue and pedestal now sit.
The Statue of Liberty is closer to New Jersey than New York and, in fact, resides in New Jersey’s waters. However, it has been established as part of the 8th Congressional District of New York according to the U.S. Geological Survey. New Jersey has never claimed rights to the island.

You could do it in about an hour if you don't go to the crown or base. Of course, that's giving a half hour for everything and a half hour to get onto the ferry again.
If you the history OF the statue itself, refer to Wikipedia - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Liberty - as they have all the details and some of the side stories as well.
Cooper... that's why is green.
Copper turns green because of chemical reactions with the elements. Just as iron that is left unprotected in open air will corrode and form a flaky orange-red outer layer, copper that is exposed to the elements undergoes a series of chemical reactions that give the shiny metal a pale green outer layer called a patina.

If it makes any sense, Lady Liberty was gifted to the US as a token of appreciation for their help in the war. It is made of copper and iron but since then it has taken on a greenish color due to the oxidization of the copper.

A giant copper statue given to the United States by France. They were originally planning on giving it to Egypt but they didn't want it. The sculptor based it off the body of his wife & the face of his mother & was also the same guy who designed the Eiffel Tower.

Total overall height from the base of the pedestal foundation to the tip of the torch is about 305 feet. From the top to view the whole scenery, it is amazing.

structural damage caused by years of wear and tear. In reality, however, the reason we will never peer out at New York Harbor from Lady Liberty's torch dates all the way back to one fateful event, according to the National Park Service: an act of sabotage by Germany on July 30, 1916, during World War I.

But after that, and due to financial issues, it was recommended to be from French people to American people.

A technique called repousse, which is a technique for creating sculptural forms by hammering sheet metal inside molds was used to make the framework. Lighter than cast metal, repousse was the only method available that would allow for such a monumental work to be shipped overseas. The Statue of Liberty stands 305 feet tall, and used 31 tons of copper and 125 tons of steel. Winds of 50 miles per hour cause the statue to sway 3 inches and the torch to sway 5 inches.

While most people know the monument as the Statue of Liberty, this title is actually nothing more than a mainstream nickname. Officially, the sculpture was christened Liberty Enlightening the World (“La Liberté éclairant le monde”), a poetic name picked out by the French.

The statue is a symbol. it was a gift from France to United States in admiration of the aspiration of a nation that would provide freedom to all its people. As a symbol it has different meanings to different people but hopefully we can agree on a common understanding.
No base and statute are closed right now. They are also doing repairs. However plenty to do around it outside. There is a new museum they opened up on the island. Free once there. It has a lot of cool things. Including the actual original torch before they made the repairs in the 80's. The ranger that was there was full of so much information. I personally thought that was so cool to see up close. If you were in the Statute all you see is out, not these things close.
Yes. You can absolutely go inside the statue. However, under current Covid guidelines, this is not allowed. This information is as current as today. (I visited earlier this afternoon.)
I do know they are actively relaxing guidelines, so perhaps you will be able to explore inside, soon.
You only pay a boat ticket that is 24 dollars, it takes you to the statue, you are there for as long as you want and then you take the same boat and it takes you to the museum for the same. You take your time to go through the entire museum and then it takes you to the base
Very good question. Shows superb intellect with such form. So impressive, the skill of framing of the wording, to bring us to your point, while the icing on the cake set in the perfect example of a question mark! So impressive the lay out of it, with planned design. I know it must have been a straining process of preparation, for way for such great want for the answer. One to be given with such brilliant thought. So sorry that I have no answer, as I myself do not have the great a mind, granted one asking such question. I hold you in high regard for profound merit, while also proving it out at the same time for it's suppressed form of the hidden statement. Bravo my good man!, Bravo! That is just one more thing that the Statue of Liberty guarantees. No fear from reprisal by any question, excuses none, my ignorance of being unable to answer. I apologize, but so glad you Liberty, being free to ask it. Freedom allows it, but I again apologize for my inability to find the right answer.

It represents freedom. Freedom without oppression and the right to make decision as a free and collective voice. It represents a government ruled by the people and for the people. When the Statue was unveiled in 1886, it was a shiny brown color, like a penny. By 1906, the color had changed to green. The reason the Statue of Liberty changed colors is that the outer surface is covered with hundreds of thin copper sheets.

The Statue of Liberty, in addition to being an important monument in New York City, became a symbol of the United States and represents, on a more general level, freedom and liberation with regard to oppression.
you have to check availability here, depending on whether you want to get on the pedestal or visit only at the base.
for the base there are no problems, it is open every day, except bad weather and / or rough sea, for the pedestal you have to book a few days in advance.

Depends on what you want to do. You can go on a ferry ride around the statue etc or you can go on a ferry and get down in the island, walk inside & climb on top of the statue. Online booking is cheap & seperate small line for the ferry.
I recommend that you look for it with a service provider (despegar.com), since if you arrive directly you make a line of about 3 hours and you can only go up to the pedestal and museum since the tickets for the crown are very limited and are already sold . Another option is the citypass, which includes several attractions. Prices are varied according to what you want but approx $ 1000. Mexican pesos
If you want to visit the crown, purchase before you visit! Tickets are limited based on safety and security standards.

In the flame is not possible. You can go to the crown but you need to book 6 months in advanced and have several restrictions because the environment up to the crown is not comfortable.
You have to buy the ticket at Fort Clinton next to Battery Park. Then they will show you the way (it's simple there are barriers to follow) to the boat that goes to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi designed and made it, with the collaboration of Gustave Eiffel. The statue depicts a woman with a long toga holding a torch in her right hand. It represents the Supreme Being and the torch symbolizes the Masonic knowledge
"It can be disappointing to those who don't know it's off limits, but there's a very good reason for it. Contrary to popular belief, it's not closed off because of structural damage caused by years of wear and tear — it's thanks to an act of sabotage by Germany on July 30, 1916, during World War I, according to the National Park Service (NPS)." - AMNetwork

In 1664 the city was named in honor of the Duke of York, who would become King James II of England. James's older brother, King Charles II, had appointed the Duke proprietor of the former territory of New Netherland, including the city of New Amsterdam, which England had recently seized from the Dutch.

While Liberty Island is closer to the Garden State, the National Park Service says it is "located within the territorial jurisdiction of the State of New York" as per a pact between the two states and ratified by Congress in 1834
When I've been art the ticket counter has been told me that after 2.00 PM the ferry that goes to Ellis Island just stop to Libery Island but is not ppssible to get out of the ferry. Actually was not bad since we could see the statue from the ferry from a very nice point of view. I don't think that stepping in to the island you see a lot moore, but that was just my feeling.
Better book in advance online to visit Liberty Statue and they mention time validity period in your tour packages .There are number of boat taxies are there from New York avd New Jersey Tickects in Circular Sightseeing by Cruises and Liberty Statue cruises charge diffent prices as per hours to visit the statue . Special boats are also there . It is up to one the choice to decide the tour cost
No, I do not think so. When we went Sunday options were island, pedestal or crown, no torch but I am sure you can check the website to find out for sure.

First buy at castel Clinton $ 18.50. And inside the island Ellis bajonla statue. There are offices where you pay the ticket for the pedestal. I think there's no access to the Crown.
Yesterday we were there. It's in Battery park. And on the way you get to Wall Street and there is the nearby bull statue.
The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French government to the US government in 1886 to commemorate the centennial of the Declaration of Independence of the United States and as a sign of friendship between the two nations. It was inaugurated on October 28, 1986 in the presence of the American president of the time, Grover Cleveland. The statue is the work of the French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and the internal structure was designed by engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel.

Hello about 1 hour, with audio guide is free, without boat trip. Right in the statue and crown costs extra. Fairland Island Museum is included in the price, there can certainly expect another hour. I was too tired to look at the museum
The Statue of Liberty was a joint effort between France and the United States, intended to commemorate the lasting friendship between the peoples of the two nations. The French sculptor Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi created the statue itself out of sheets of hammered copper, while Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel, the man behind the famed Eiffel Tower, designed the statue’s steel framework. The Statue of Liberty was then given to the United States and erected atop an American-designed pedestal on a small island in Upper New York Bay, now known as Liberty Island, and dedicated by President Grover Cleveland in 1886. Over the years, the statue stood tall as millions of immigrants arrived in America via nearby Ellis Island; in 1986, it underwent an extensive renovation in honor of the centennial of its dedication. Today, the Statue of Liberty remains an enduring symbol of freedom and democracy, as well as one of the world’s most recognizable landmarks.
Try to go when the temperatures aren't at their peak (so not around 1-3ish if it's a bright, sunny summer's day). I'd say the best times are when the island is very quiet and isolated, so early in the morning if possible.

When it was complete in 1885, the statue was disassembled into 350 pieces, shipped to New York City, and reassembled. It took 4 months just to put the Statue of Liberty together again! The Statue of Liberty was officially dedicated and unveiled on October 28, 1886.

Statue of Liberty was officially dedicated and unveiled on October 28, 1886.The story of the Statue of Liberty and her island has been one of change. With the placing of “The New Colossus” on a plaque in the pedestal in 1903, Lady Liberty’s significance grew as an inspiration to immigrants who sailed past her on their way to America. The Statue was placed upon a granite pedestal inside the courtyard of the star-shaped walls of Fort Wood (which had been completed for the War of 1812).
It's subjective, according to my mind, a whole journey from the ferry to the ferry, down to the statue point and then visiting Ellis Island is worth
Time and money ..

Ferry gives you the option to stop at Ellis Island museum and former immigration inspection station in New York Harbor
Then 2nd stop: The statue stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, but the location of the Statue of Liberty has not always been so clear. Originally, the island was known as Bedloe Island and was officially renamed in 1956 (Statue of Liberty has its own small island)
While in statue of Liberty there are 2 options: ferry to: Ellis Island then World Trade Center or Ellis Island then Liberty State Park in New Jersey( Jersey City)
Give me your poor and tired beings. Give me those masses anxious to be free, the sad waste of populous shores. Let the helpless come That the storms beat. My torch lights a golden threshold.

It's named Colombia, a female counterpart for Colombus. But may be it has some back ground to the Greek godes as the origin of the 7 seas representation comes from there, and we can understand that the 7 horns on the crown of the statu represent the 7 oveans.

The status of liberty is a gift given from France a long time ago. It was delivered here in pieces by boat. It is in the middle of the Hudson River that separates New Jersey and New York.
