Roosevelt island is amazing, such a beautiful place and no tourists at all. It’s history is extremely interesting and the monuments deserve more recognition. DONT GO ON A TUESDAY, the actual monument is closed on tuesdays Extra: taking the tram to get of the island even if it takes you a further away from your next stop is a cool experience.

Old hospital dedicated to the cure of smallpox that is currently in a state of abandonment. Hopefully they can restore it soon and be accessible.

I knew people from the 1950s who have been there by boat, my father and uncle had taken their boat there in the early 60s before regulations were put in place, they said it used to be many different things including a prison, and two other types of hospitals. They said the view of the East River was beautiful and showed me pictures from seventy years ago. I have been to the neighboring island veterans hospital.
