I think if you are really interested in art and would like to take your time appreciating at least the major sections of the met, a good 5 hours would probably be needed. I personally love museums and even I need 4 hours for even small to moderate-size museums. I recall spending a good day at the Met, and had to leave only because the museum was nearing its closing time.

It depends. If your child is into art, they could be fascinated by the paintings, statues, and architecture. Personally, I think every child will think the Egyptian wing is cool. On the other hand, there's my daughter (10) who is bored to tears when we drag her to these things. Also the museum is so large it can be overwhelming and fatigue can set in no matter how into art your child may be. My suggestion is to find one or two things your child is interested in and only go visit that. Otherwise you might be better off taking them to a children's museum that's more hands on.

While Met Museum hours may vary, including if they are closed one day each week, in general they are open to 5:30 p.m. with extended hours to 9:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It is especially great to visit there on Friday and Saturday evening after 5:00 p.m., easier to access, not as busy unless there is a highly reviewed exhibit at that time. The Met website is terrific! Visiting any and all the major museums, along with the Met, Guggenheim, Whitney Museum, Museum of Modern Art, are so fantastic on any day in NYC!

I also went to the space where William of hippo was there. When I did not try to see everything, if I had something I could not see, I watched it as if I should come again.

If you live in New York then it's donation based. But if you're not from here I believe it's $25 for adults. They have machines that are behind the information table that you can buy tickets from rather than stand in the longer traditional ticket lines. Also if youre facing the museum from the outside there's an entrance on the left of the main stairs that goes to the basement level it's less crowded there on weekends and they have a ticket line or you can buy from a machine there. Hope this helps

The exquisite collections are rarely moved to different locations. As for seasonal exhibition and special shows, they have regular updates on their website. Just take a look at it before you go and plan your visit because you won't be able to finish the whole museum in one day.

Why is the Met Gala not open for fans to buy tickets. Why invitation only?
Inspirational SHANAE | Sep 24, 2018
Bo Hershey | Sep 24, 2018
The tickets are expensive from what I heard. I believe Gala is based on getting a table. Those tables run in the $10,000 plus maybe even $100,000. In addition, its a celebrity event managed by celebrities, people in the art world, financiers, models. Essentially its an elite event. Opening it up to the public would make the event less special.

It's possible to find on street parking within a 20min walk of the Met. You can easily find nearby parking garages as well. But I would recommend leaving your car and taking Uber to the front door on Fifth Ave. The Met is huge with lots of walking & standing involved in a visit. So arrive rested & relaxed without the car park problem.

I left at about 4:30 pm and the lobby was fairly crowded but I did not notice substantial lines at the ticket counters.
