The Metropolitan Museum is only open until 5:30pm on weekdays. Extended hours on Friday and Saturday until 9pm. If you live in New York you can make a contribution from 1 dollar and up. If you do not you will pay the entry fee. If you are a member like me, you get in free and are able to enjoy early exhibition times, etc

I dont believe that the entry is ever free. There is a discount entry fee of $10.00, after 5pm on weekdays. And that same fee may apply on the weekends.
