I think if you are really interested in art and would like to take your time appreciating at least the major sections of the met, a good 5 hours would probably be needed. I personally love museums and even I need 4 hours for even small to moderate-size museums. I recall spending a good day at the Met, and had to leave only because the museum was nearing its closing time.

I spend a good 4 hours on my first visit and I only saw half of it! It's such an amazing place that I came another day and spend another 4 hours. Even at that, I had to quickly go through most of exhibits!

I don't understand these answers you've been given.. If you are intending to take in the MET in it's entirety, you're going to need a few days. I stayed a week in New York, 3 of those days I spent wandering around this museum. There is so much to see and appreciate! The art is first rate, and the history is overabundant! If you're looking to only see everything without knowing the story behind it, yes, a few hours would do. If you truly appreciate art, I would dedicate 2 days at least.. And that's just for the few sections of your choosing that hold your interest above the others.

I think that it's up to you. Depending on your interest on the different sections, it can take you 2 hours or a couple days. If you read everything, or do the audio tour for the whole thing it takes forever. If you just "walk around the building" approximately two hours is enough.

I guarded the MeT during the time of the King TuT, and have continued to visit the MuSeuM ever since. It is why I live in NyC, my church and my ballpark. If you are going to be in New York just once or twice in your life, you may try and see as much of the MeT’s collections as you can. However, if you live near enough to visit the special exhibits and permanent collection periodically, you should take your visits piecemeal. Choose what you want to see and make a plan. I wouldn’t recommend more than 2 & 1/2 hours at a time, unless you can break w/ a meal at one of their restaurants or, weather permitting, a head clearing walk in Central PaRk (which lies right behind the museum). With children I wouldn’t spent more than 1&1/2-1&3/4 hours.

I spent several hours in the Egyptian section and hardly made a dent.

You would need to come for a span of 3 days at least, 4 hours each day at least, to see EVERY exhibit. My friend and I came here once and we only saw 7/9 of the FIRST FLOOR. You need a lot of time.

Jeffrey Rozman | Sep 24, 2018

You can do 1-6 hours easily

An hour or 2 maybe

According to my visit it could take you around 3 hours minimum.
