Awesome bridge to walk and experience the wind from the Pacific ocean.
Good view of city. Great view of water, islands, boats. Good markings along the walk path. Dedicated lines for bikes.
Information about the bridge in many places.
Only downside is the vehicle passing makes lot of noise.
Good transit options to reach there and returning. Place to park, drop off from taxis.
Overall a great experience walking along the bridge.
A must visit attraction in San Francisco.

The iconic San Francisco bridge that you must never miss when in town. It's a different experience at different times of the year and weather conditions. So it's not enough just to see it once.
You can walk or bike across the bridge as well as drive on it. When you do walk look down carefully as you might spot some marine mammals that are native to the area.
I recommend parking up the road rather than in the south side viewing area. And wear something warm no matter the season.

Being on the bridge is an awesome experience. You need to experience it to realize how big the bridge is.
The pictures don't show how large it really is.
We were there from day to night and were amazed the whole time.
We walked half way through and saw the incredible view from the city. We also saw some sea lions swimming in the bay.
It is a beautiful bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge.

Absolutely beautiful day. Little chilly yet beautiful. We parked down below under the bridge and even got to see a seal hanging out in the water. Plenty of parking and a nice area to walk around and stretch out your legs if needed as well as a restroom for just in case.
The Golden Gate Bridge, which spans the San Francisco Bay and connects the city to its northern suburbs, is one of the world's most famous structures. ... Bridgeworkers build a catwalk that connects the towers at both sides of the strait so they can attach the suspension cables to hold up the bridge.
The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the one-mile-wide (1.6 km) strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The structure links the U.S. city of San Francisco, California—the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula—to Marin County, carrying both U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1 across the strait. It also carries pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and is designated as part of U.S. Bicycle Route 95. Being declared one of the Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers,[7] the bridge is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco and California. It was initially designed by engineer Joseph Strauss in 1917.
The Golden Gate Bridge Broke Records
When it was built, the Golden Gate Bridge spanned 4,200 feet and staked its claim as the longest suspension bridge in the world. This is one of the most interesting facts about the Golden Gate Bridge because it held this record until 19
Thankfully, while Great Whites are numerous along the California coast, the menacing shark infrequently ventures under the Golden Gate Bridge to pay us a visit. However, there are 11 different species of shark that do call the San Francisco Bay home. Of these, at least five species live in the Bay year-round, breeding and giving birth here.

The Bridge is actually named for the Golden Gate Strait, the narrow entrance between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay. The strait was named by explorer and U.S. Army officer John C. Frémont, who marveled at its beauty in 1846—two years before the discovery of gold in California.
The golden Gate Bridge was built in 1933 to connect San Francisco to Marin County.
There had been plans to build the bridge for decades, however it faced opposition from unions, the military and the railway company which ran the ferries.
Before the bridge, the only way to cross the Golden Gate straight was by ferry. San Francisco was one of the last major US cities to rely on ferry links and the route was increasingly struggling to keep up with rising demand, caused by San Franciscos growing population and higher rates of car ownership.
The bridge aimed to relieve that demand, help the San Francisco economy and, to a lesser extent, demonstrate America's engineering and industrial prowess to the world.
The golden gate Bridge has not collapsed since it was built in 1932. The closest it came was in may of 1987 when the bridge was closed and over 300,000 people walked on it and it visibly sank over 10 feet. Not even the loma prieta earthquake in 1989 collapsed the bridge. This is not to say that any number of Hollywood directors have destroyed the bridge for a movie.
What was the colour formulae of the golden gate bridge???

Originally it was painted International Orange, with a lead primer and a lead-based topcoat. In 1968 it was replaced with an inorganic zinc silicate primer and vinyl topcoats to resist the advancing corrosion more effectively. This work took until 1995 to complete. In between this, in 1990, the topcoat was changed from a vinyl to an acrylic emulsion to meet air quality (Volatile Organic Compounds or VOC) requirements.

It is like a dream for those of us who visit it from another state, for me it was very meaningful to walk along the shore, run and wait for the night there on the bridge, I didn't want to leave.
The area around the Bay and the bridge gets super foggy...they wanted a color that stood out so the bridge would be visible but still look good. The color is actually called International Orange.
shoottt. im responding for the points but people just want to be nice(not really most of this world is terrible(if not the entire)) and help other people boost their points
Golden gate Park is very large. Technically part of the park is near the bridge but most of the park is quite a ways away. I would definitely look on Google maps and plan out your trip that way. If you stay near Golden gate bridge that'll put you close to a lot of things but not most of the park. My recommendation would be to stay near fisherman's wharf as there will be a lot of things within walking distance although not the park. But there is great transportation for around town such as buses and electric trolleys. You can also rent various forms of electronic bikes and scooters to get around town as well. Hope this helps.
To allow land travel from one side of the bay to the other for ease of living and commerce in that region. I hope this helps, from Roger Browning, author of the novel, 'The Reckoning of Rance.'
Near the Golden Gate Bridge, the waters have depths of more than 300 feet, for example, and the depth is more than 100 feet between Angel Island and Alcatraz
Yes. Some of the exhibits are wrapped for protection, and the food counter is not open, but all the trails and the Bridge itself are open and accessible. There are social distancing guidelines on the bridge but I had no problem with that.
I'm from way down south Visiting San Francisco is there somewhere where I can sleep in my truck and have a view of the Golden Gate Bridge headed there now to take some aerial shots what else is there to do around here anybody tell me

If you're ok to bear cold at night then you can park the truck in GG overlook area from other side of Alexander Ave. If you've great DSLR camera with high power lense, then you can get great shots from Twin Peaks as well.
The bridge itself is not humming per se, but the wind that whistles through the cables makes a peculiar Humm similar to strumming a violin , as well as tires on the roadway, contribute to the vibration.

If you can cross the bridge, there are several toll booths, but everything is electronically charged, there are no people in the cabin! , if you have fastrak, you can go to any bridge in California, but if you do not have fastrak ... only here in the Golden Gate Bridge can you pass it like this, but they take a picture of the plates and send you The bridge receipt is $ 5 or $ 6 dollars for crossing the bridge, for San Francisco, I hope it helped you in this question.👍

The structure, construction, engineering, and the history around the time.
I recommend see a history of construction on internet, is very awesome. And this bridge support all day the traffic of bay area (very very heavy).
Probably decent weather! But, it is always more windy and a bit cooler than the city out there. It will also start to get cooler earlier out there. So, if you plan to be there after ~4-5pm then bring a jacket.
The golden gate bridge is located north of San Francisco and connects San Francisco with the neighboring county of Marin. There is a fee entering San Francisco and they do not accept cash anymore. Great place to take pictures and walk. Early morning may have fog and drive in the appropriate lane when driving at a reduced speed. Best of luck.
Primary Contractors for the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge were: Marin and San Francisco Tower Piers: Pacific Bridge Company. Anchorages and Approach Piers: Barrett & Hilp. Structural Steel of Suspension Span and Towers:McClintic-Marshall Corporation, a subsidiary of Bethlehem Steel Corporation.
Si sales de San francisco nada pero si entras cuesta 7 u 8 dolares, fines de semana creo no cobran ni días feriados, pero te sugiero que lo cheques. Vale cada dólar cruzar ida y regreso
The Golden Gate Bridge connects the city of San Francisco to Marin County, California. Marin County includes the cities of Sausalito, Muir Beach, Stinson Beach, San Rafael, Novato, Mill Valley, and many others.
It took just over 4 years to build the golden gate bridge, and apparently the painting of the bridge was directed by a man called Rocky Dellarocca and it supposedly took them 2 decades!
The color was chosen when they built the bridge as a reflection of the colors in the landscape at the time. It has stayed that way ever since as the bridge with it's rust color is considered iconic worldwide.
It's actually called International Orange & the color was selected by consulting architect Irving Morrow because it complements the natural surroundings and enhances the bridge's visibility in fog.
Well interesting enough the way the bridge is designed actually it will probably never fail it will probably stand up to a big big earthquake in the little park right next to it has the design of how the bridge actually works it's very cool you should go check it out
Muir Woods National Monument
In the fictional tales, the apes have made Muir Woods their home, even though the film was actually shot in British Columbia. The Muir Woods National Monument, perhaps better known simply as the Redwood Forest, spans 12 miles north of San Francisco in Marin County
The bridge is 8,981 feet long (1.7 miles) and contains about 83,000 tons of steel. The total weight of the bridge is 887,000 tons. There are two towers that hold up the two steel cables anchoring the bridge. Also, there are approximately 80,000 miles of wire inside each of the two steel cables.
It's a very good bridge and it looks nice. It's a landmark that is synonymous with San Francisco. So when you take a picture there, people will know you did San Francisco!
Due it its significance during the great depression, the Golden Gate Bridge signifies a Magnificent man made structure that is made out of cables. Binding wires [thick guage] gives it the strength to suspend the bridge weight instead of building on top of the water. Due to high sizemic activity for the region, the design made sense to withstand earthquakes.
The best things about the golden gate is going to the top of the mountain and see how beatiful the sea and the city looks!I recomend to go during night time..

It's a wonderful structure ever created; Driving out of San Francisco via the Golden Gate Bridge gives you chills. The road itself it's a nice place to drive. You are able to see Alcatraz on one side on the open ocean on the other.
There are two companies that I suggest to check into Hornblower Cruises and events is the first one. They do cocktail cruises dinner and brunch cruises all of them will cruise by and around the golden gate bridge alcatraz treasure island bay bridge and the giants stadium on game days. The other is oh shoot I forget their name but it's like the blue and gold fleet or red something they are just bay tours boats nothing fancy about them both can be found on the embarcadero. Hornblower also has their offices on the santa rosa which is open to the public you can tour the historic ferry boat and go upstairs on the roof to take pictures at pier 3
Yes there is parking iutside of visitor center, yes you can walk with kids is safe, there are many view to choose from. Once you get there you will have an idea of the views.
Coit Tower also gives you a great view of all of the Bay. Great history info. Golden Gate Park is beautiful. And if you go down to the base of Golden Gate Bridge, there is quite a bit to see and experience.

Gold is too soft to serve as actual structural metal for the bridge. However, the entire bridge could be wrapped in Gold Leaf and it would shine for the golden State!😎😎😎
It had to be built to join two corners of San Franscisco. Otherwise if it was for show then it would have been opened only for pedestrian and cyclist and not for cars, trucks and other big vehicles.
It's called the Golden Gate bridge because it spans across the strait of Golden Gate! Until the 1840s the strait was called Boca del Puerto de San Francisco (Mouth of the Port of San Francisco) but got the name Golden Gate on 1 July, 1846 from the memoirs of John C Fremont who named it the Golden Gate (as in the golden gate to trade with the Orient) ..
(Fremont was also the first ever Presidential candidate of the Republican Party!)
but I that are color blind ... what color is it ????

This is actually quite a good question, and one that I don't know if there is a concrete answer for. Although some times with the sun's reflection some days it looks somewhat gold
It is often compared to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, US, because they are both suspension bridges of similar color. It was built by the American Bridge Company which constructed the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge, but not the Golden Gate

The Golden Gate is a strait on the west coast of North America that connects San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean.[2] It is defined by the headlands of the San Francisco Peninsula and the Marin Peninsula, and, since 1937, has been spanned by the Golden Gate Bridge. The entire shoreline and adjacent waters throughout the strait are managed by the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.[3]
I'm not familiar with the just stats but there always bike cops on the bridge and I believe a mesh net of some kind to prevent that. Even if they had a more surveillance it's hard to know when someone is in tha state of mind.
Wow don't know who told you that! Maybe you could google it and learn the amazing history behind the build and design of the bridge, hope that will help.
To add to Wanda, the explorer named it Chrysopolae (Golden Gate) because of its similarity to the harbor of Byzantium (modern-day Istanbul), dubbed Chrysoceras (Golden Horn). Src: http://goldengatebridge.org/research/FactFiction.php
From Google:
Of eleven men killed from falls during construction, ten were killed on February 17, 1937, when the bridge was near completion and the net failed under the stress of a scaffold that had fallen."
The color is called International Orange. It is Primer coat applied before applying any oil based paint color.
The reason it was left with International Orange is, it is visible even in dense fog which covers the bridge most of the time.

WHY IS IT RED NOT GOLD?

Sandra Schlupp | Aug 21, 2019
Engineer Joseph Strauss originally pleaded for a boring gray, the navy for a clearly visible black and yellow. In the end, the architect Irving Foster Morrow prevailed. He was responsible for the aesthetic design of the bridge. He designed the lighting system and decided on the bright red-orange bridge color "International Orange", which is basically just an anti-rust color. Because the humid, salty air from the sea is ceaselessly affecting the bridge, rust is a bigger enemy for the bridge today than earthquakes or storms.
I crossed the bridge riding I bike. Im not a regular biker, but it was so incredible I was not even tired. I was fullfiled with joy. And Sausalito, by the other side, os so nice. You can take a ferry back to SF, with your bike on.
The name of the bridge is originated in the name of the strait it bridges. On July 1, 1846, two years before the discovery of gold in California U.S. Army Captain John C. Fremont gazed at the narrow strait that separates the Bay for the Pacific Ocean. Like many others coming to this place Fremont was gripped by a vision of the future. He saw the establishment of towering cities on this wild shore.
He envisioned processions of ships coming and going on long trade routes to Asia. Like the ancient harbor of Byzantium at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, this too would surely become a center of world commerce. For the mighty portals giving entrance to this harbor Fremont conceived an inspired name: Golden Gate.
“I gave [it] the name Chrysopylae, or Golden Gate, for the same reason that the harbor of Byzantium was called Chrysoceras or Golden Horn,” he later wrote.

Both walk and bike. But since it's windy and cold make sure to keep a jacket. It's amazing to see ocean views , the engineering of the bridge and if you are lucky a ship crossing the bridge.
It is a landmark of California and San Francisco. I am sure there are bigger and prettier bridges around the world but if you are in the San Francisco Bay area take a look at it. It is very windy there and you can clearly see the Alcatraz Old Prison.
Not even close. It's only the fourth longest bridge in the San Francisco Bay area. There are many bridges longer overall than the GGB. Also, Brenda was only partly right, it's the second longest *suspension* bridge (which are ranked by their main span length) in the U.S.
Same reason any bridge is constructed - to create safe passage between two previously separated areas, sometimes the separation is a trainyard or an interstate. In this case it's a wide sea channel.

"The Golden Gate Strait is the entrance to the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean. The strait is approximately three-miles long by one-mile wide with currents ranging from 4.5 to 7.5 knots. It is generally accepted that the strait was named "Chrysopylae", or Golden Gate, by John C. Fremont, Captain, topographical Engineers of the U.S. Army circa 1846. It reminded him of a harbor in Istanbul named Chrysoceras or Golden Horn."

Fremont choose the name 'Chrysopylae', or 'Golden Gate' before the discovery of gold in California because he recognized that the bay would be a strategic center for trade with Asia (just like Byzantium or Chrysoceras/golden horn was in antiquity).

About 2/5th way from vista point. You can get great background with Alcatraz and SF high rise, if you are trying to take pictures. Other than that, almost everywhere on the bridge is pretty similar.
January 5, 1933, Bethlehem Steel began construction. The bridge was opened May 27, 1937

"The Bridge is actually named for theGolden Gate Strait, the narrow entrance between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay. The strait was named by explorer and U.S. Army officer John C. Frémont, who marveled at its beauty in 1846—two years before the discovery of gold in California."
The Bridge was painted when it was originally built. Until 1965, only touch up was required. In 1965, advancing corrosion sparked a program to remove the original lead-based paint (which was 68% red lead paste in a linseed oil carrier).
