The Bridge is actually named for the Golden Gate Strait, the narrowentrance between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay. And the Bridge's official color is International Orange.

Chrysopylae ("Golden Gate" in Greek) was the name of the strait where the bridge was built, hence its name, which has nothing to do with its color.
