The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the one-mile-wide (1.6 km) strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The structure links the U.S. city of San Francisco, California—the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula—to Marin County, carrying both U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1 across the strait. It also carries pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and is designated as part of U.S. Bicycle Route 95. Being declared one of the Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers,[7] the bridge is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco and California. It was initially designed by engineer Joseph Strauss in 1917. The Golden Gate Bridge Broke Records When it was built, the Golden Gate Bridge spanned 4,200 feet and staked its claim as the longest suspension bridge in the world. This is one of the most interesting facts about the Golden Gate Bridge because it held this record until 19
The bridge itself looks beautiful & the engineering is a thing of amazing beauty. Be sure to look at the miniature version before you walk down the bridge. It's placed in the overlook area before the bridge
It constantly needs to be repainted almost everyday weather permitting
My lovely memories since 1979 up to now
The beautiful view of SF Bay and the excersise to get to it
Steel
And it's on the golden state warriors team jersey
It's one of the most well-known icons in the world. Not just the bridge but the vistas and the area surrounding it. Every time I visit, I fond other wonders.
