Why is it called the golden gate bridge when it is red

It is named after the Golden Gate Strait the 300 foot deep stretch of water of the entry of the bay it spans.

The consulting architect preferred the the burnt red and orange primer that protects it from the elements to other paint schemes.

It is the entry gate/bridge from to the West to the Golden State (California)

Because it's in the GOLDEN STAE of California. 😊
