Adopted a kitten from here. The process was fast and easy.

Incredible. Went there to adopt a doggo with close friends. Came back with the sweetest German shepherd we named Sparky the Fur Musket. Sweetest girl ever. All the staff were super friendly and efficient, and withing an hour we had our girl. Highly recommend!

for context, we went to the shelter in search of a cat, having a few specific cats in mind already that we had seen on the website. There are no walk ins. We waited no less than 30 mins, and when we were finally able to look at the cats, it became clear that the staff seems to be unable to keep up with the animals in their own facility. This is probably due to the fact that there was only one person who was able to show us the cats in the first place. Their website is wildly misleading and inaccurate, at least in our experience. Half of the animals listed on there were no longer even in the facility. Half of the animals we SAW there weren't even on the website. They lack general knowledge about the animals they do have, whose been adopted and who has not... Our questions were barely answered whenever we inquired about their personalities, they seemed either unsure how to answer or wanting to sugarcoat things. This all made it out to be a pretty awkward and confusing visit. In the end, we were pulled aside into a room after being told that we could see the animal we were interested in, (that we had seen on their website), waited, only to be told that animal had actually been adopted already. Each and every cat We had been interested in and saw listed on the website was gone. Needless to say we left without a cat and not sure if I would recommend this experience to anyone else.

Just an honest heads up: if you adopt an animal and it doesn't end up working out, they will not at all refund you, no matter what you paid and no matter if only a day or so has past since getting it. They'll just say "unfortunately no." So beware of being scammed. They'll definitely steal your own money unfairly and have no problems with it or an explanation why. Also the animals online don't accurately represent the animals in shelter when you arrive. There's no walk ins like the website says. You have to sit there for an undisclosed amount of time waiting for one single human to take each and every adoptee back to see the animals. Lastly they have no idea about the animals in their own shelter. If you ask questions they all say they don't know anything and you get tossed around with different information. Very unorganized and poorly structured.
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
Absolutely they take and need donations!! Good on you!! This is a Great idea good luck!
Did you ever get help getting your dogs?
Call to make sure
I think that's a question that only they could answer if you give them a call I'm sure they'd be happy to answer all of your questions. So very sorry for your loss.
They have special adoption days where adoptions are free.
Sorry idk
We are so sorry you've had trouble reaching us. You can reach out intake department directly at 336-641-3414, the shelter in general at 336-641-3401 or reach out to us via our social media accounts or website contact form. For more information about owner surrender, you can visit our website at https://www.guilfordcountync.gov/our-county/animal-services/animal-shelter/owner-surrenders
Animals are marked for rescue for either medical or behaviors displayed while at the shelter. Many times the small dogs are fear biters and cannot go on the adoption floor for the safety of staff and the public. Also, small dogs are often returned to their owners after being brought into the shelter as strays. Each animal is carefully considered before their placement decision is made. All decisions are made in the best interest of the animal and public.
I have a rabbit i trying to find someone to adopt Her
Yes, I have one that I am fostering to adopt ❤
I would say the animal hospital. Not sure about CC because in Thomasville they don't because a lot have been faked. The cards.
We provide a 1 year rabies vaccine through Rabies Clinics for $10 per pet. You can learn more and see our upcoming rabies clinics at https://www.guilfordcountync.gov/our-county/animal-services/animal-control/rabies-clinic-schedule

Thanks Joe. I did call shelter but got no answer. Just recording. But thanks all for your inputs.... Gonna call Project Bark.. Thanks
They were adopted out in a lottery on June 1st
That's called kennel cough. When I got my girl in Feb I took her to the vet and got the meds. It's a little bit of cash and some time.
They really frown on it. But no harm in asking. Our last dog came from the shelter and we regretted it right away. Said if we brought her back, we wouldn't be able to adopt anymore. Tha being said, she became an amazing pet and that conversation was 8 yrs ago
Owner surrender is by appointment only. Appointments can be made by calling staff at 336.641.3413, and you must be a Guilford County resident. Additional information at https://www.guilfordcountync.gov/our-county/animal-services/animal-shelter/intake-and-reclaim-your-pet
The shelter is always looking for more volunteers. The application can be found at https://www.guilfordcountync.gov/our-county/animal-services/animal-shelter/volunteers You have to be 18 to volunteer.

I'm sure you gotta go in
I'm quite sure they you can call them and they can refer you to the right department if they can't help. I do know they are well affiliated with other community organizations whom they may work with.
They are open now until 5
I was there to possibly adopt a dog, I never asked about cats.
Yes they do
We are so sorry to hear you need to make the hard decision for your pet. We do provide Owner Requested Euthanasia. To learn more about this service, please visit http://ore.guilfordcountync.gov
We do get birds in occasionally. You can see all of our currently available pets at http://petadoption.guilfordcountync.gov
It is a common misconception that we euthanize for space or time here at Guilford County Animal Services. We evaluate every animal to enter our shelter and do everything possible to ensure a live outcome for the animals at our facility. Sometimes humane euthanasia is the best option for an animal depending on health and behavior, but we strive to have positive outcomes for every animal that can have one. We work closely with all of our transfer partners for those who may not be the best fit to adopt out from our facility. As long as pets are happy and healthy they remain here until they are adopted out. We have had some pets that have stayed with us over a year before finding their new homes!
Yes,I got the stay cat at my house, some animal attack him,I went to vet fixed the cat legs and a bring him my home again...... actually that your cat........
Thank you so much for considering adoption! To see our current available pets and learn more about our adoption process, please visit http://petadoption.guilfordcountync.gov At the time of adoption, you will need to fill out an adoption application and adoption agreement, and provide a government issued id (Drivers license, passport, state ID.) We will provide you with medical history, behavior notes, adoption contract, and any other documentation we have pertaining to the pet. Thank you!
Adopters at our facility must be 18 or older, so you would be able to adopt from us. If you would like to see our available pets and find out more about our adoption process, please visit us at http://petadoption.guilfordcountync.gov Thank you for choosing adoption!
Yes due to covid-19 health and safety reasons they want you to make an appointment and be there 30 minutes before it and make sure to bring a mask.
We are so sorry to hear about your pet. We do have an Owner Surrender for Euthanasia service that we provide to our community. This is a free service for those who cannot afford humane euthanasia at a veterinary office. It is only for residence of Guilford County. ORE appointments will not be allowed to be with your pet at the time of euthanasia if it is determined by our medical staff to be the best course of action for your pet. You will also not be able to receive remains back. If you would like either of these things, a veterinary office will be able to provide those options for you. More information and to schedule an appointment, please visit our ORE page at https://ore.guilfordcountync.gov
Not sure but when I went there and someone asked about it they said something about free clinics for that but it's not everyday or every Saturday. You can call them to find out more information about that.
Yes..its cheap..it doesnt cost much..im not sure of the exact amount..you have to call them
Yes, they are. You do need to call them and make an appointment, though. They require you to spend at least 15 minutes with the animal before filling out the adoption paperwork.
I was able to look her up in our system and I'm happy to report she was adopted. :)
Currently you do need to make an appointment to come adopt a pet, but this may change when our new facility opens. For the latest information on the adoption process and to view our available animals, please visit our website at http://petadoption.guilfordcountync.gov Thank you!

We have a couple of different options for adoption. You can adopt in person at the shelter, or set up a virtual appointment. It sounds like a virtual appointment may be best for you. We completely understand having a hard time walking through the kennels. We aim to make the adoption experience a happy one and to accommodate everyone who wants to adopt from us. You can learn more about our adoption processes and see a gallery of all of our available animals at http://petadoption.guilfordcountync.gov
We are always in need of new and gently used blankets or large towels! We are unable to use sheets as they are too thin for our washers. Unfortunately, we cannot offer cremation services. There are several places in the area, though, that offer this service. Your vet may offer it as well. We hope you have many more wonderful years with your pup.

I don't know either but I agree with Kayla. I strongly recommend making an appointment with a vet to get your dog examined, anyway. If nothing else testing for & prevention of heartworm is my first thought and there are several other reasons for an initial checkup.
You can view all available pets and learn more about our adoption process at http://petadoption.guilfordcountync.gov Thank you for choosing adoption!
Adoption fees will be waived for a day in September for Clear the Shelter! Keep an eye on our social media for details. Thank you!
You do not need an appointment to surrender a stray pet to us, only if you have been feeding them for longer than 1 week. They would then be considered your animals and you would need an appointment to bring them in. Strays can be brought into the shelter any time between 12pm and 4pm any day except Tuesdays. I do believe that they are looking for volunteers but not paying workers but you should swing by and ask
We do provide sample bags of food so long as we have them in stock. We will also let you know the brand of food we are using in case you need more for the transition. We are currently feeding Hills Science Diet at the shelter.
The Guilford County Animal Shelter is an open admission shelter, which means they do not turn away animals in need. The process is described at https://www.guilfordcountync.gov/our-county/animal-services/animal-shelter/intake-and-reclaim-your-pet
Transfer or Rescue only means that the animal has not passed evaluations to become an adoption candidate due to medical or behavioral issues. They are available for rescues to pull only.
The shelter is open admission, which means they do not turn away any animals in need. This means that they intake over 10,000 animals per year. They do what they can to get the adoptable animals into permanent homes, but this is not always possible. Additional information at https://www.guilfordcountync.gov/our-county/animal-services/animal-shelter/animal-shelter-statistics and https://www.guilfordcountync.gov/our-county/animal-services/animal-shelter/intake-and-reclaim-your-pet

Thank you so much for your interest in adopting. For our procedure on how to adopt as well as to see our currently available pets, please visit us at http://petadoption.guilfordcountync.gov
It's a pretty simple process; just a few forms you can complete at the shelter. If the animal is already fixed, you could take it home the same day. If not, they schedule the operation and you pick it up in a few days.

Kennel cough take it to the vet asap
We are sorry to hear it is not working out with your new family member. You are able to bring your pet back to the shelter anytime without an appointment within the first 30 days. We do not offer refunds. Based on reasoning for returning a pet, you could be placed on a do not adopt list for up to a year or more.

They do however the euthanize ones that are sick, not because there isnt space. At the moment, they are euthanizing few enough animals to be called a no kill shelter. People bring in their old dogs to be euthanized which raises prices but they actually euthanize almost none

Yep. I'm not sure, call and ask for Hailey or Danielle. They're the best.
Call the local sheriffe dep they will get you to animal control! Please call right away!
It changed recently.....if you search it you will be at Guilford County page ...look for the paw print in blue that says animal services that will take you to the animal info page and click the sub page select animal shelter that will have you on their website. From there if you want to view animal gallery then select what you want to view ( cat ,dog or other) you will then be redirected to petharbor. Not sure why all these unnessary steps but its like that now for all websites connected to the County.
Cats get adopted pretty quick here. I go about once a week to love on the cats and they are different every time.
Not sure employees monitor this site. You should call the shelter and ask an employee.
While we do not provide spay/neuter services here at the shelter, there are many wonderful low cost clinics in the area. Project Bark also provides a low cost voucher for spay and neuter.
We vaccinate pets that come into our shelter, but we cannot practice on owned animals. We can only give a rabies vaccine at our vaccines clinic. They are 1 year vaccines available for $10 pet pet. We are so sorry to hear your pet was sick. The shelter is a stressful environment and stress can weaken the immune system. They do receive veterinary exams and are monitored while here at the shelter, but it is possible that they did not start showing symptoms until after they left the shelter. We apologize again that we did not see any symptoms.

Yes they do I got my kitten there. I would like another do got still have them
Reach out to the shelter. Pay for training courses if you can. Return the dog if there's no other choice... But it's totally normal for dogs to not easily get along at home for a few days, and even have a flare a few weeks later. Just have patients and give them both love. You're doing great! Keep it up!
There is a website affiliated with the micro chip, they should also have a scanner where u can scan the dog and information will come up about the animal and owner

No it doesn't. It would be a big help to the shelter if you or someone you know could foster and rehome a stray though or find a no kill shelter to take the animal. Keep in mind that there is no guarantee that this shelter won't put the animal down.

I don't think they will. They will consider it a surrendered animal. If adoptable it gets placed up for readoption. If not the age matters. Sometimes they are euthanized. Board your cat with your vet and then get it back. Most vets charge $15 plus per night
UmmmNO, he will be LOCKEN IN A CAGE where he is to eat, sleep, and use the bathroom...surely you can not be SERIOUS! He will not be loved on or played with or able to have free reign..if thats how you treat him then your answer is YES
He has been adopted, but we have many other wonderful pets available. To see our current available pets and learn more about our adoption process, please visit http://petadoption.guilfordcountync.gov

We are open on New Years Eve, but we are closed to the public on New Years Day.
I had my rescue spayed about 18 months ago. I don't remember the exact amount, but with spaying, rabies vaccine, and a cone I don't believe it was more than $65.
Yes, you can surrender an adopted animal. It's highly unlikely you'll get a refund but you can take them back and surrender them to the shelter.
Try the Humane Society, it's right in front of the shelter and they have a wellness clinic. They offer all services including rabies booster
They likely won't "hold" the dog that long. Once it's been surrendered and put up as an adoptable pet whoever gets it, gets it. You need to let them know asap that you want the dog back and you'll have to go pick it up now rather than 2 weeks from now. They won't board the dog for that long unless it just happens to not be adopted within that time frame.
