On the famous Cannery Row, this place is always busy. Get your tickets in advance. Various exhibits, including the newest one, Into The Deep, are fascinating and wonderful. There is something for everyone here. Bring binoculars to watch the sea otters in the kelp bed, or attend one of the otter feedings. It's easy to spend half a day or more in the Aquarium. Whimsical place to bring kids.

This is an absolute must-do! We went on a Sunday morning and there was a long line that wrapped around the building, but we were in the aquarium within ten to fifteen minutes. The exhibits are so informational and beautiful. The staff/volunteers are SO friendly and fun to chat with! Definitely ask them about the exhibits because they have lots of information to share! We started the day off with the 11am feeding which was so fun because we got to see lots of fish right at the start. With the exhibits, you can really get up close, which is awesome! Their Into the Deep exhibit is fascinating.

A beautiful aquarium with majestic views of Monterey Bay. There are several exhibits throughout the whole area encompassing 3 floors. The Kelp forest and otters are the two main attractions. I took the time to sit in on one of the free 15 min videos presented in their auditorium. This is a great place for little children. Many special exhibits are designed especially for kids to play with and adventure around in. Some exhibits made me wish I was a little kid because I was much too tall to fit in some of these. There are a couple of places where one is allowed to reach in to touch and feel the animals. They have a large cafe with excellent choices for grabbing lunch at a reasonable cost. There is also a coffee bar where one can buy coffee or espresso drinks for under $5. Keep in mind parking will come at a premium with many all day spots nearby for $15. I really enjoyed myself and glad for all they do there for the preservation of ocean life. It is a great place to build awareness of the wonders of the marine world and our need to conserve them.

We (my family and I) love the aquarium. It's always a pleasure to visit, we wish we could visit more but the prices are somewhat out of the ordinary to visit more frequently. In the times we are living, it was surprising to see that many people inside. Proof of vaccination is asked at the entrance, which we loved! Going back to my previous line; we were surprised to see so many people inside the aquarium and just like in many other places, once inside, many people removed their face coverings and no one tells them anything.
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
Senior is different at different places of business but at the Monterey Bay Aquarium the magic number is 65and older. I personally feel like if you're old enough to qualify for an AARP membership (50+) you should get senior discount everywhere. Lol The Aquarium is an amazing place to spend the day at any age and at any price I think it's a value. Enjoy your trip!
Hi Sylvia! Yes, wheel chairs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We look forward to sea-ing you soon!
yes you can, just find the stamp pad, next to exit 🐢
You should send an email to the aquarium to correct the sign.
Yes. All of the doors are well beyond ADA standards. I take a stroller every time I go.
There's plenty of street parking, and a parking structure within a couple of blocks. If you are really lucky, you could get a spot right next to the entrance!
Yes they do. Get hand stamp.
You don't need to buy the tickets in advance, but it saves time in line so I would definitely buy them early.
You should definitely contact them personally and ask them because there is a good chance they might do it.
You can go you will like it
Opening hours Thursday10AM–5PM Friday10AM–5PM Saturday10AM–5PM Sunday10AM–5PM Monday10AM–5PM Tuesday10AM–5PM Wednesday10AM–5PM
There are a variety of sharks including a hammer head and demonstrations of how they hand feed the hammer head. Look for the open water feeding time and be there.
Yes, there are 3 ways to show proof of vaccination. You can go to the California website and show your QR code of which they will scan, have your actual vaccine card, or a photo of your vaccine card. You must also show an ID with your vaccination evidence. Masks required at all times.
Yes, you can bring your 17-month old (bring a stroller). Ages 4 and under are free
No. But you musk wear a mask. Which is pretty reasonable given the amount of people there.
Hello Peggy! When we reopen, we are planning on having our guests make reservations for the time and date they are planning on visiting. You can learn more about what to expect for a visit on our website here: https://www.montereybayaquarium.org/visit/welcome-back Just a reminder, though, we aren't open and don't yet have a reopening date. We hope you are doing well, take care!
There are kid areas to explore. Didn't notice a place where you can have them cared for while parents explore. Lots of gadget stuff kids can be entertained by in some of the exhibits.
Yes.
Yes. Near the front door there is a stamp station where you can stamp your own hand. When you come back through the ticketing area, they will shine a light on your hand to look for the stamp, and then you can go back in.
The walkways are wide thus they should accommodate the wagon.. However the are many distracted people. Enjoy! Its a magical place
It is a world famous, world class aquarium worthy of being a landmark.
Yes it's open. This link https://www.montereybayaquarium.org/visit/hours-and-schedule/2019/5/27 says "we are open everyday except Dec 25".
Snacks can only be eaten in the cafes. Sorry no strollers for hire.
65+ is the age for senior discount. The link to the aquarium pricing info is here: https://tickets.montereybayaquarium.org/webstore/shop/viewItems.aspx?cg=TEP&c=AT hope its helps!
Hello
It's often very sunny and cold in the morning but warms up as the day goes on. People surf and swim on the beach regularly.
If you consider very cute sea otters mermaids... yes!
I am not sure,,, but I can find out
Hi Sahj, If you are a member you can purchase online https://tickets.montereybayaquarium.org/webstore/shop/viewItems.aspx?cg=TEP&c=Events
You should contact the hotel
o
There is a fast food place next door to the aquarium, they charge by the day for parking, as long as there is room, they will let you party anything there.
IF you are from Salinas you can get a pass for 6 people in the bookstores
No. Unfortunately no outside food is allowed in. They do have a little food court inside with a variety of things to pick from.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium is open every day including weekends - they only close on Christmas Day, (just one day in the year)
Bring them a piece of mail that shows your address. An electric bill, a credit card statement etc
The time starts the day of purchase you may be able to arrange to buy the passes but have the time start when they are picked up best thing to do is to call them I'm sure they are flexible about this
Dec 2 to 10 free admission with id and proff of address
I just did that. They will let you in with photo id matching the membership names. They will even give you a temp to get your usual discounts.
We spent about 7 hours. It should be you main destination for the day.
Because of the live animals in and popularity of the aquarium, there taking isn't a place for pets. It is guide dog friendly.
Yes, they will have security look, but no problems
I didn't see any inside
Unless something requires him to close by the city or county Yep they're open except for on Christmas
A few hours, longer if you read all the signs
They have something called give a gift of a membership to someone. To My knowledge they do not have gift cards but maybe third party websites might
Yes
Buy tickets on line and get your vaccination card with you
It's called the Seafood Watch Guide. You can download it from the aquarium website.
I'd say the morning is best. It gets packed in the afternoon
No but I don't think your allowed dogs in
We just visited the aquarium today My son's is in the military and he wasn't able to get an discount at this time
If you are 12 or older you must show proof of vaccination OR get Covid tested within 72 hours of your visit and provide those results. Make sure to also bring a photo ID if you are 18 or older.
All week but it is not free.
They allow to enter later too. We had reservations for 1pm, we were in line at 1:15.
You have to check wit MBA for that
They will do tests there if it is necessary.
You can make a reservation online without your membership card, or they can look you up at the entrance. You'll need to make sure to follow mask safety and vaccine guidelines. Once you're in, the shops are open... nothing special is required for shopping.
Yes..make reservations
They do, but like all places ask for near exact change when possible
Its very busy lately. If you cant get it sorted out online, call. When my family and i went we had to call to move the ticket date back a day due to traffic while traveling and they were incredibly helpful and friendly. Got us sorted out in just a couple minutes.
I didn't know free tickets were available if you live in Salinas, how weird is that, since the exhibit/aquarium is in Monterey and there aren't any free tickets being given out! Where did you get that info, if you find out please post info for the rest of us.
I saw 2 support dogs. lots of children in strollers and wheelchairs. They are ver y accomodating.
My son is in the spectrum but he does not have problem wearing mask. I would suggest calling guest relations ahead of time and take your doctor's note with you. They will enjoy it.
Parking directly at the aquarium is tough/limited since it's in the old cannery building. I most often park at public lots and walk to the aquarium. Some of those lots have charging stations, but you'd have to research which ones before going.
Fir seniors it's $39.95 (ages 65+). U have to book through their website.
I would also try and go on a weekday if possible. The weekend was insanely crowded!
Hi Marcene! Senior admission (ages 65+) is $39.95. Please visit our website for more visiting details. https://www.montereybayaquarium.org/visit/welcome-back
Hi there! Our wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please ask a staff member about wheelchair availability when you arrive.
You're not supposed to take in outside food or drinks, however, they were not doing bag checks so yes everyone had food and drinks in there
People exchange tickets for different dates and times and free up their existing tickets all throughout the day. I just kept checking for available tickets and was able to get two close to the time I needed. They go fast so you have to be quick.
I'd call and check. For instance, we all have to make reservations due to the pandemic but if we had to miss for some reason we could apply our tickets to another day. I believe they may honor your pass.
I don't think there is anyone who does.
You go at your own pace but usually I spend 2-3 hrs in there when walking through.
It depends if you only have a senior membership or individual you can not add anyone but if you got a family membership then totally different rules and amount of persons allowed apply. Membership rules and regulation policies are very complex you should refer to the fine print within your terms of service agreement for membership types.
The aquarium is currently open to members, but will open to the general public later in the month. You will need a reservation whether you're a member or general public. Go to their website to set it up. It's worth it!
If you want to go this summer, go to the aquarium website now to buy tickets. It's uncertain when it will be possible to buy tickets and go the same day. At this point only 125 people with advanced tickets can enter every half hour.
I think the aim is june or july check website for updates. Wait i regress my answe may 15 th lol
I don't think so; it's not similar to a Costco membership card or Sam's Club card
On the official website, it appears TEMPORARILY CLOSED
No

Early
It's at $ 49 dlls almost in general
I didnt see anything like that, no. That's a good idea though, perhaps some lockers would be nice.
Yes.
Actually, it was San Benito, Monterey, and I believe Santa Cruz that had free admission from December 7 to the 15th, but yesterday was the last day.
Dec. 7–15 (Sat. – Sun.) 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Residents of Monterey County, Santa Cruz and San Benito can enjoy free admission during our community week. Show your ID with current residence. Consular registration or student identification of any university or college within the three counties or service invoice with an identification that matches the same residence will be accepted at the main entrance. We will be offering bilingual programs both weekends.
When I was there I didn't see anything about this. There is a discount for students.
Dec. 7-15(Sat-Sun).. you need to show a photo id with your local address on it.. exact words from the website.. "Visitors must present photo I'd with local address. Current student ID from tri-county area with proof of residence such as a current utility bill along with a matching photo I'd will be accepted at main entrance"
They are little seahorses, I actually took a picture of the little seahorses when I was at the aquarium last I wish I can send you a picture, cuz that's what the label said
I think they simply go by the reservation number. As long as you have that. If you need to confirm, they are pretty responsive to emails. I hope this helped you.
It closes at 5:00 PM today.
There is a discount for students and seniors. Do not know about the vets.
There is a parking lot up the hill by the aquarium, it's called aquarium parking , 15$ for the whole day till midnight. So make the most of your time on canery row and at the aquarium.
I don't think so, but you can call them to make sure.
probably depends on if you are just adults or going with children. Kids love it and want to hang out at the displays. I would say three hours to get your money's worth.
There are Tesla superchargers in Monterey and level 2 chargers in the downtown garage. There is a shuttle from the garage to the aquarium.
I was there last weekend and yes they gave us a $10 per person discount.
Only trained service animals are allowed inside. But they offer pet sitting services near the Aquarium.
https://www.montereybayaquarium.org/visit/espanol/tarifas-y-membresia
Yes on holidays it's crowded. Visit on week days, preferably morning
$49.95 para cada adulto, y $29.95 para un niño. Adult (Ages 18–64 and not in college)$49.95 Child (Ages 3–12, under 3 free)$29.95
I believe you have to buy it in the aquarium they check your handbag or what kind of bag you have before you even go into it so I don't think that you're allowed to bring stuff from the outside when I was there I didn't see anybody with their own bottle of water or snacks except for some people with babies.
Close by Aquarium are mostly pay lots. If you go past aquarium towards pacific grove there are some free spots. I parked in Seaside and rode the bike trail XD.
Monterey 15-20 Sanjose/San Francisco 60- 75 minutes
Depends. With all the interactive feedings I would say three hours.
Motel 6 Is chip for two nights and is close to get a Walk around a places store and restaurants
Yes
Yes only trained Service animals are allowed in aquarium area.
I dont see why not, as long as he/she can behave while seeing other animals, but you might wanna call & ask just to be sure
Hi there, below is the link to check out which dates you cannot use the pass on and conditions: https://www.monterey.org/library/Check-out/Shelf-to-Shore-Program Hope this helps!
Unfortunately there is no free parking unless you can find it on the street or aquarium parking
Nicely displayed - well lit and decorated with natural items - variety of sea life, from tiny sea horse and many types of jellyfish to medium sized species like several kinds of eels, to many types of large fish like sharks and even some sunfish in a huge tank that is two to three stories. There are knowledgeable staff throughout, giving information at the habitats and in the ongoing theater that features short educational films about marine science, including a chance to see and touch some of the equipment like the trackers used on sharks to see migration.
It is open every day except for December 25 from 9:30 a.m until 6:00 p.m.
There is no other purchase unless you want to take a tour, eat or go shopping at one of the stores located inside the aquarium.
You can go on their website to see their operating calendar.
As long as you have your receipt you will not have issues with that.
If you buy it over the internet you can use it if you do not have a date of a certain day
I really do not know .🤔
About $5
Depends on the day. The day I went we were 2nd in line. Was very quick!
Not knowledge of English, does not adequately answer. But the aquarium is excellent. As a child, I kept fish and I had several aquariums ...)))) This one is also very good!) (No say english)
MBA has several turtles. There are a few areas where the aquarium is over or nearly over the viewer but not a tunnel aquarium like is seen some places.
You can buy tickets at the door. you can buy tickets at the door
Yes, you can bring your own food and water but you have to eat outside they have benches .
I'm not sure if fishing is allowed, I have not seen anybody fish as many times as I have.
3-4 hours. They feed the penguins at the same time as the otters and the open sea feeding coincides with the kelp forrest feeding. I highly recommend you spend a full two days doing everything but if you've only got one day I suggest picking your favorites and seeing those first. I've got a yearly membership and I've never seen the otters being fed because it's so terribly crowded. That's alright though because around human lunchtime you can go see them playing and being sweet. You'll get some great photo opportunities.
Eugene is correct, 2nd floor play area...
It costs around $ 50 for adults and less for children. The Monterey Bay Aquarium website has the prices. And yes several of the employees speak Spanish.
You can share membership cards.
Please visit montereybayaquarium.org/aaa
They have gift cards, just give them a call.
I think not..!
Adult $49.95 Child $29.95 (Ages 3-12, under 3 free) http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/visit/admission-tickets
Go to their website to get those details. It's quick and easy.
Service dogs are premitted inside. Pets would need to stay home.
Dec 1-9th for Tri-county residents with ID
Adult (Ages 18–64) $49.95 Child (Ages 3–12, under 3 free) $29.95 Senior (Ages 65+) and Student (Ages 13–17) 39.95
If you are early or lucky then only you can park parking across else have to park in one of the parkings. There are quite a few in 5 to 10 min walk distance.
No. The Aquarium is open Monday 11/12 from 9:30-6pm. Thank you
Yes, they have discounts for old persons.
They are open Monday. U can see prices on website. So worth it we went at least once every year for over 7yrs till fell I'll now dont get to go like we want. Also if u want to go whale watching Princess Monterey best crew largest 2 vessels in on Monterey on wharf. http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/visit/hours-and-schedule/2018/10/8
I just went this past weekend and it wasn't crowded at all. They do offer student and senior citizen discounts. - $10 for students, not too sure if it's the same discount for senior citizens though
That is a negative, if you would like to know which discounts are available we have a listing on the website i believe
Yes, the Aquarium does require admission for entry.
Yes, $39.95 for seniors. Adults are $49.95
Tuesday-Thursday are the more quiet days and Monday when its not a holiday. Durning the summer it is popular throughout the week.
They would still need to buy a ticket to eat at the cafeteria, unless your membership includes guest cards.
You can buy tickets at the door.
$49.95 for an Adult $29.95 for a child $39.95 Senior $39.95 student
They didn't advertise these services when I was there last. The location is pretty ADA compliant, but you'll need to bring your own mobility device if you want to use one.
Yes
Good question. I believe it is from date of purchase. It's not like the stupid fishing license.
They can usually cost 40 something. You better speak up to get the right prices
I wouldn't but if it has its certification, I would call ahead to make sure. Some areas may need to be avoided.
..I have no idea about, you may ask in office
Not sure, but I would wait until the kids are back in school. Crazy busy during the summer
Either way it is the same price so it is just better if you get them online and they can just check you in faster.
Haven't had the great white shark on awhile but do have three small hammerhead sharks.
I'd recommend buying your tickets on line. When you arrive hand in your tickets withlittle or no waiting.
The Monterey Bay aquarium's website says it is open on July 4th.
Google bed and breakfast and you have many options to you
You should contact the front desk
In the morning for sure because they are barely opening everything up. if you want season, is usually depends between late winter early spring. I only say that because of the amount of people you get during the winter for vacation as well as summer.
Possibly, you should check online or contact them directly and they will let you know.
You can do both
I belive it's 62 or 65
Don't. Have any there no rentals
I doubt it but you can check online or contact them directly
9:30am to 6pm
Both ways work... but better to buy online to avoid any lines.
No hammerheads are on display at this time.
I was there last weekend and did not see them
They are usually open for every holiday except the main holidays
I haven't seen it. Best to contact directly.
What leaf does it refer to?
Yes it is expensive. But is worth every penny imo. We went there for my baby, i enjoyed it as much!! Probably one of the best aquariums in the world
Lots and lots. Can you be more specific as to the time or date please?? They discovered a small group of sea otters years ago as being the only survivors until they breeded back to sustainable numbers
We spent 3 hours there just this last weekend, and that was without seeing any feedings or anything in the auditorium. Could easily spend 4-5 if you want to do those.
Senior discount is 65+
10am-5pm
From the Salinas Californian: From Dec. 2-10, the Monterey Bay Aquarium will offer free admission to residents of Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties. Nov 16, 2017
The prices listed online are the same as those you pay at the Aquarium.
Contact them directly or the Marine life for the county.
Give them your serial number of the ticket and they will be able to look it up.
Contact them directly.
Yes, but I've been here with 2 Grandson on busy holidays and we enjoyed our day. Don't let this stop you from visiting.
Oct 20, 1984
it was established in 1984
We have the privilege that there are many signs in Spanish, to understand a little better about life at sea.
Prices change based on ages of who the ticket is for; but not based on what day it is.
Any person is under $50 but children, seniors, and students are less.
Yes. As of 2/18 the senior admision is 39.95 (65 and over) vs adult admission which is 49.95
You can not bring food INTO the aquarium, but you can have your own food in the open public areas outside the aquarium.
If you mean when did it first open, it was in October, 1984 but if you want to know the time they open daily, it is 10 AM.
I was there last Thursday and one of the aquarium workers pointed out a pod of whales about 300 yards out that he said were migrating south.
Too far, it's hours on a good day. Come to Monterey to visit for at least a whole day.
35 dollars but if you live in Monterey County, public libraries give you a free pass for 5.
It should still work
Parking wasn't expensive, & for what we saw, neither was the cost of entrance to the aquarium. But I suppose it is all relative to one's financial situation.
I don't think so. They said for child, veteran and old people only
I don't think they do but calling and asking would be your best bet.
They do offer personal guided tours as well as a "Jellies and Open Sea" tour that may be of more interest to you. They have a counter at the front just for questions about tours and there's docents outside the aquarium that can also point you in the right direction when it comes to picking a tour.
Cannery Row is dog friendly, but the aquarium only allows service animals. Some parts of the aquarium are very crowded and probably not the safest for a dog.
You can get outside food. You can have the food in outside open area but not in cafeteria
Seniors is 65+
Butterfly Inn
According to their website, Senior rates are for 65+.
End to end I would guess a jellyfish. By mass, I'd guess, Tuna but maybe Hammerhead Shark or Giant Turtle.
It was Dec 2nd through 10th
I'm not completely sure, it's True, the best thing to do is call the aquarium. However, being in a wheelchair myself. I would say mba is very accommodating to ones like myself. The exhibit heights are low enough that you'll get the same experience that anyone else gets. I hope you have an awesome time, if there are other places in California, especially northern that you have questions on wheelchair accessibility let me know
No, They are closed on Christmas. Sorry!
I don't think so, but i would call and check
I'm sure u can find nachos but the seafood is much better
There are generally no free tickets, but discounts are available for students, seniors and large groups.
Yes, from Dec.2-10. only if you are residents of Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties (and have ID to prove you're local)
December 2-10 (2017) is free admission during regular aquarium hours for those who live in Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz countries. Bring a photo ID, plus proof of residence (college ID, utilities bill, local bus pass).
From what I understand, anyone with a valid photo ID (including student id's) may enter for free. Also, if you have proof of residence, such as a current utility bill with your name and tri-county address on it, that will be accepted. It is one person per one ID. Everyone else will pay regular entry prices.
Yes. I agree that small lunch or snacks would be good. The food is expensive. But you will have to carry it and it's a lot of walking. I usually carry a small backpack. Also, you can leave and come back in without charge as long as you get your hand stamped at the door. You could have food in a cooler in your car or drive/walk to a cafe and then finish the aquaurium and limited as far as special diets, vegan, gf, etc.
The policy is college ID, but they just want proof you are in college.
There is one opposite to the road leading to the aquarium. But its usually full. But even in the busiest of seasons - you should find parking in close proximity.
$49.95 adults $29.95 children ages 3-12, under 3 free $39.95 students ages 13-17, or college ID $39.95 senior ages 65+
If you ask to look on the second floor
No outside food is permitted but they do have a cafe center location on the lower level for food and snacks you cannot remove food from the area for safety reasons
Yes see member services when there most helpfull
Durring Fall, on every Friday. Also open house for locals Dec 2-10
They are open on Thanksgiving Day, full day. Just confirmed with someone who works here. They are closed on Christmas Day.
The truth is I did not see no Gina promotion for that
If you are a family with a bunch of kids, you can buy a family pass, but I think the benefit only kicks in with 2 or more children....
Not that I know of, but there are many nearby. Some of the guides provide an education, rather than just a watching tour.
Yes there is a student yearly pass for a discounted rate.
I never asked if outside food is allowed. I do bringing mu 3 yr olds lunch in and have never had a problem.
Most likely.
Yes. You just need to go on the line to buy tickets.
