MBK literally has the best staff ever! Customer service is A+++. Booked a double kayak for a couple of hours at Elkorn Slough and had an amazing time! They took their time to explain safety protocols, as well as 101 on kayaking. While we were kayaking, we saw a lot of wildlife like sea otters and sea lions, which were adorable! It was one of the best kayaking experiences I've had. After kayaking, I actually realized that I left something valuable at MBK. I contacted them and they were able to find it for me and coordinated the whole shipping process to return the item back to me. Extremely grateful for all their time and help cause they really went out of their way. Thank you so much! Would 100% recommend Monterey Bay Kayaks for the excellent experience, good rates, and customer service.

Incredibly rude staff, I was really disappointed by the way they talked to not only our group but others. They also misled you as to where you're allowed to take the kayak, we had really clear marking and guidelines as to where we could go then once we paid they changed them to a much more restricted area. There are a lot of kayak places on the wharf, and this local won't be using monterey bay kayaks again.

Went on the 2.5hr guided tour with McKenna and loved every bit of it. Saw tons of wildlife (sea otters, harbor seals, sea lions, jellyfish, pelicans). McKenna brought us to the best spots along the bay and gave us interesting tidbits about the animals and environment. We were glad we went on the 2.5hr tour instead of the 1.5hr tour, since with the extra time we were able to paddle to kelp beds and see multiple sea otter rafts.

Helpful, friendly staff. The equipment was in great shape, and we had a great day on the kayaks. Lots of marine life to see in the area, and the best views are from right on the water.

what kind of clothing should one wear?

They provide what to you need at no cost. It would help if you take spandex or extra underwear and plastic bags cause after you change, it can get pretty sandy.

Thank you for your inquiry! We offer a 1.5 hour guided tour that is great for kids 3-12 years old. They would be in a double with an adult. You can also just rent a double and go out by yourselves. There is a lot of information on our website - I would recommend the Elkhorn Slough location for a first kayak experience. Elkhorn Slough Tour - https://www.montereybaykayaks.com/elkhorn-slough-guided-tours.html Elkhorn Slough Rentals - https://www.montereybaykayaks.com/elkhorn-slough-rentals.html

Can I have my 6 y.o. on my SUP with me if he knows how to swim? Else, is there a child size board I can rent?

Cindy Pelger | Sep 4, 2020
Monterey Bay Kayaks | Sep 4, 2020

Thank you for your inquiry! We do not allow kids to ride on boards and they do need to be at least 13 to have their own standup paddleboard. However, a double kayak would be a great way to get on the water!

Generally we do not, however give us a call and we can possibly make it work. It will depend on the day, location, weather and number of kayaks/sups wanted.

Hi there if I will be coming to do SUP do I need a wetsuit? Thank you

Agent M | Sep 4, 2020
Monterey Bay Kayaks | Sep 4, 2020

It depends on the day's weather and personal preferance but we include them in the cost of a SUP rental $35 pp. We have full 4mm wetsuits and sleeveless 3mm wetsuits. We also include a paddling jacket (optional) and lifevest (mandatory). Paddle early in the morning as afternoon winds can limit or cancel SUP rentals. No reservations needed, just walk in!
