I just went this past weekend and it wasn't crowded at all. They do offer student and senior citizen discounts. - $10 for students, not too sure if it's the same discount for senior citizens though
In Summer the main inside-corner entrance has a line 100 yards+ clockwise ,thru a maze, toward the discount mall of Pacific Grove! Groups, Disabled, Members and tour bus drivers go in the big breezeway entrance on the Cannery Row side. There is a parking garage but not big enough. Street parking is very competitive, even for 45ft tour buses! This is a Major Attraction in this region, like the Santa Cruz Boardwalk beach amusement park that also is Mobbed in Summer with parking lots but no major parking garage. By now, September, the kids have gone back to school and the Summer tourist crowds should be much less. You could call them, as their polite staff is supplement by all the Seniors retired in this area and they do a Great job! If you are traveling from afar, don't miss the drive along the Pacific Grove shoreline to the South point of Monterey Bay. Also the many wide clean beaches from Rio del Mar down to Moss Landing on Monterey Bay. Most do Not have lifeguard stations tho.
