I live here! Big change from Michigan. This area is beautiful, all the waterfalls, creeks and streams. If you ever thought about visiting WNC, it's worth it. Wonder views and so much wild life.
Vanessa K
Beautiful area. Went to max patch and it exceeded the hype. Stunningly beautiful. Saw Elk on the way to the parking lot. No overnight camping or fires at max patch, but plenty of other areas to camp at.

Pisgah is an amazing place to spend time hiking, biking, camping or simply enjoying nature. Amenities spread across the forest with simply family friendly areas along the park way to the rugged wilderness around Wilson’s creek and Linville gorge. Enjoy and explore safely. Download maps beforehand and have a plan if you get lost.

It was a great place we talk to really friendly guy his uncle owned the property that we camped at it was quite all you could here was the river and a few wild animals running around at night.

The Pisgah National Forest is an amazing place to watch meteor showers from
I did not see any whitewater rafting anywhere in the forest. The terrain is not suitable for this sport in my opinion.
Theirs a beautiful water fall on the right at the fish hatchery it's a nice hike. But theirs alot theirs also one out at DuPont . All are beautiful in their on way.
Yes there are a few of them. Depending on where u want to be closer to as in water, hiking, site seeing. Best thing to do is check online which places are closets to your desired points of interest and what you would like to do. Also depending on which way your coming from the is a sign and map at the beginning when you pull in.
Yes but didn't see any on way to falls
It depends on what you are wanting to do. Some trails and such are impossible to close. Campgrounds and visitor centers will be closed.
Always possible
Yes. Services vary by campground. I stayed at Davidson Campground which included electric, water and electric sites as well as unserviced sites. A bathhouse was located in each campground which included showers, toilets and sinks. They are also heated.
Yes, absolutely! There are paved sidewalks near the parking lot! But make sure that your stroller has knobby tires!
Ive seen the temp range from mid 30s to mid 70s but we haven't had many cold March and April's in a while I would expect mid 40s at night and 50 to 65 in day I've hiked the AT trail in January in snow and had the best time on my life. In spring a is a great time the leafs r coming out and red bud trees r in full blume along with dog woods it be a excellent time to be hiking!
Typically for Pisgah National the attractions are will marked and you can stop by one of the ranger station and get a map also you can ask a ranger while there for better detail. They are very knowledgeable.
You must have a permit to cut down any types of trees in The Pisgah National Forest. There are Christmas Tree farms north of Asheville near Boone. I personally have been there, there's a great selection and amazing people.
Thew Dupont forest near Brevard is very ADA friendly. There is ample space to park and the trails are very easy to maneuver through. You should try the Blue Ridge Parkway this time of year for the trees changing.
1.) You can stay wilderness camping 14 days 2.) no permits required lots of trails and hiking remember to bring climbing gear it will be needed 3.) As long as your tiers of ur vehicle is not touching the Road you may park if ur not planing on staying in designated camping spots i would put a note in your window that you are camping on the trail for x amount of days the rules are clear and at the information lodge at the beginning of mountain
I have saw waterfalls in NC open they have them blocked off but people are going around the barrier they have also park above the waterfall. and hiked in
She's right... sliding rock wasn't open. I do wish everything was open though and that everyone would just be careful and wise.... and she's also right I definitely just have great memories up on the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy every time I drive-thru
Technically...its law abiding to stay on the trails and even take trash u see as u enjoy urself and everything around you....go and have fun 😁👍
If you find what they call dispersed camp sites, those are free. They also have campsites with more amenities that cost 10-30 dollars a night.
You can walk your dog without a leash there just may want to carry the leash with you so it doesn't run off or try and jump on people n jump at other dogs that's passing by they may try n bite your dog so you dnt have 2 walk it on one but I'd say I'd recommend you do have fun there its beautiful peaceful and just amazing beauty for the eyes..
It is open to camping in the park. Unless we have a big snow. Then there are other places to camp.
Depending on which waterfall, GPS may or may not be accurate. Sliding rock and looking glass falls are very easy to locate, there are signs and they are a short walk from the side of the road
There are some falls right off the main road the the forest but you can also try www.romanticasheville.com and look at falls in Brevard, NC or just Google Brevard, NC waterfalls.
Yes
Yes. There is Black Mountain Campground and Carolina Hemlocks.
Hey Jennifer, we camped there for free. If you look up black balsam knob (beautiful area), there's lots of parking spots off the Parkway (Route 215) and the Blue Ridge Parkway where you can park and then camp for free as long as your campsite is 1000 feet off the road.
Yes sir you can hunt the Pisgah National Forest. Im not sure why all these folks are saying you cant hunt the Pisgah National Forest because that is not true.. i live there and you can find all the rules and regulations at the wildlife resources commission website.. Just google it and you will be fine.
If you go, bring tp for yourself and a trash bag to pick up after others.
Of course watch for bikers! Great time to go if the weather is good.
The Pisgah in this area came from Cherokee people who were the caretakers until the land was taken from them. It was pronounced piss qua by the Cherokee. It means sacred.
You can shoot bb guns anywhere, except around glass and people. Also, don't put your eye out.
There are places you can wheel. Brown Mountain OHV, old NC 105, Hurricane Creek... And many others, download the Gaia app, lots of info about "off the beaten path" roads/trails.
There is some horse trails. Just Google and find where they are standing Indian camp ground has trails as well
The main entrance is at wild hawg BBQ area. But there are several ways into the park on blue ridge parkway.
Yes, but check first, actually if you like camping, I really recommend it....
Yes but with caution.
No but I will check that out! Thanks!
I didn't see any signs prohibiting handguns. I have a concealed carry and had it on me.
Thats through PARI Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute They have overnight cabin events...
When it's summer months we do Sliding Rock and a picnic. There's alot of beautiful trails to hike as well.
Well there are a lot of surrounding area, however the area is vass. It is 500 THOUSAND ACRES. So there are several smaller towns the closer to ranger stations and public accessibility the higher the cost. Simply because of the tourist. Linville itself is a higher cost of living where as to 30 minutes south would be somewhat cheaper. That being from about center of the forest. South from there you're getting closer to Cherokee and north to Boone. Boone is a college town and is rather expensive! Blowing Rock village as well.
It's a Great place to live! As long as you aren't too close to Asheville it's not too expensive. Asheville is very expensive to live ie 1200sq ft home 500k+.
Multi day backpacking is allowed. Parking is usually free at trail heads
Devils looking glass is a awesome place for swimmingt too
I don't believe so. Never seen any one else doing it there! But might look into grandfather mountain.
Yes for sure
You can camp for free in dispersed camping areas which they call primitive. Most have a fire ring and tent pad. You can also pay for sites that are more improved and have bathrooms and picnic tables. It's easier to get larger camping vehicles to these sites. I like the primitive sites. Just remember to bring a shovel to dig a hole for the bathroom lol
Not that I'm aware of
Almost all trails are dog friendly long as they are on a leash
Yes, but not in national parks. Archery deer, Sept. 13-28 and Oct. 12-23. Blackpowder deer, Sept. 29 to Oct. 11. Regular gun deer, Nov. 24 to Dec. 13. Bear, Oct. 13 to Nov. 22 and Dec. 15 to Jan. 1. Small game seasons start in October and November.
Fishing and camping for sure
For personal use (non-commercial) there are usually no permits required in National Forests so long as you are harvesting reasonable amounts.
As these others have said... and our grandparents before us... There is none.
Hey I was looking for camping for a group of 20 near sliding rock. I would like to be on the river off of a road. Can you make any suggestions? I have my youth group wanting to go this week
Ginseng hunting is allowed but it is on a lottery system during a specified season. July 19th the deadline.
Wow! The river through the PNF in Transylvania County is Davidson River along 276. Around Rodman it is the French Broad. And past Transylvania County around Highlands/Cashiers is Natahala. In Henderson County it is Mills River. I'm sure there are probably more.
No ATV camping, thank goodness.
I'm going to guess no. If you could I would think that you would at least need a permit to do so. It's a heavily traveled area by tourists and locals during this time of the year.
Yes you can go anytime.
No it will not be closed due to Easter but local heavy rains may have an impact in some roads.
Cant drink in a national forest..but you can put up a tent and fish with a north Carolina fishing license
Yes it's open on Christmas and alot of other holidays, I recommend you visit..
I don't know we stayed at a cabin. Sorry
Yes dogs are allowed leashed or under restraint at all times on all trails, you can even take them to the waterfalls... You can Google are dogs allowed in Pisgah National Forest and it'll tell you everything you need to know!
Mt Mitchell is 6683ft in elevation and lies just outside the boundary of the Pisgah National Forest
There are many waterfalls with short hikes and good parking. The forest is very large so it does depend on where you are.
Absolutely! Pisgah National Forest isn't a park as much as it is a number of roadside trails. Just driving there are access points directly to roadside waterfalls, or you can find a number of hikes to various falls including Moore's Cove, Skinny Dip, and Whale's Back Falls. A large number of the trails end at or pass by waterfalls, so they shouldn't be hard to find.
Yes. It's accessible via a hiking trail from the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Pisgah Inn.
With all the trail in and around the campground you can start hiking at anytime
Ask Google it will give you the history
You should be able to Google from your location to Pisgah National Forest and it will guide you there.
I don't think the National Park Service clears vegitation unless it's a threat to safety... You would have to contact the park rangers to find out.
Lots of cabins and trails, linville falls has good trails for kids. Our 6 yr old has walked them all
There is a visitor center at Wilson Creek, right up from the Gorge that is handicap accessible as well as accessible restrooms. It alone is worth a visit. Of course they have all the information you can imagine but they also have events scheduled from April-November on property. A wonderful front porch, a beautiful covered picnic area, a helpful staff & all the surrounding scenery can be anyone's perfect day trip! Located on Wilson Creek Rd.
Need more info about where you want to stop, but by and large yes. You just need to have your dog on a leash.
You can drive on the parkway and visit all of the overlooks and attractions any day that does not have a big gate across the road with a closed sign. The roads are only closed due to inclimate weather (e.g. snow). Buy yourself a map of the PNF and strap on some hiking boots. My favorite is Looking Glass Rock near Brevard...Sliding Rock is also nearby.. When you are done, head over to Oscar Blue's Brewery.
I have seen a few trails that lead to campgrounds in Pisgah. I am sure it depends on which section of the falls you are talking about. So, short answer: yes. Better answer: call ahead for the campground.
