You can camp for free in dispersed camping areas which they call primitive. Most have a fire ring and tent pad. You can also pay for sites that are more improved and have bathrooms and picnic tables. It's easier to get larger camping vehicles to these sites. I like the primitive sites. Just remember to bring a shovel to dig a hole for the bathroom lol
Pisgah is a free National Forest to visit. Woohoo, public lands. For camping and other type amenities there are (reasonable) fees.
