If getting away from it all is your goal for a vacation, then this is the place! Couldn't be more scenic. The views from the trails are breathtaking. Wildlife lovers dream! Birds, deer, moose, elk, and more. The fishing and camping areas are plentiful and rustic. Just amazing! God's Country ,

BEAUTIFUL forest!! This forest is full of gorgeous views and the people enjoy talking about the area history.

Canoed on Crooked Lake. This is by far the most beautiful place we ever canoed or kayaked! We used the Sylvania Outfitters to rent a canoe. We only explored for about 5 hours. We wish we could have stayed for a month!

Skeeters can be bad at times, especially in the evening, shady deep woods, and near standing/stagnant water. There are also flies that like to buzz around behind your head but they don't really bite as long as you shoo them away. Bring mosquito repellent and depending on temperature, try to minimize the amount of exposed skin you have. Without repellent I got a number of bites on my hands and arms, and they liked to try to bite my face & ears too. Wear long pants & crew or longer length socks, a hat or cap (good against sun too), and if the high isn't expected to go above 70F, maybe long sleeve shirts as well. Repellent is effective even for a mosquito-magnet like me, just spray everywhere from the neck down and dab some around the ears as well. Use a repellent you can spray on your skin.
Leaving your car in the forest when you're not in the forest isn't permitted but primitive camping is allowed and in that case your car would be at your campsite with you FREE. Or in a designated parking location FREE. There are locations that are not free such as paid campsites and cabins. In that case you pay for service and your car is with you.
I am pretty sure the answer is no. It's Federal land with designated camp grounds for that. The number for the district office is 906-358-4551 and you can get the answer.
Steve is correct
