Hi Justine,
It depends on the age and type of pet you're looking for.
Cats (5 months and older) are $60
Kittens (under 5 months old) are $120
Dogs (5 months and older) are $150
Puppies (under 5 months old) are $250
The Anti-Cruelty Society is not closed. Our River North Adoptuon Center is open every day at noon to come and meet our adoptable animals. To see the available animals, visit anticruelty.org/adopt. Our public spat/neuter clinic is also open by appointment only but appointments are limited due to high volume. Visit anti cruelty.org/appointment
Do NOT bring a cat here. I found a stray cat almost right outside anti-cruelty last year. I’m very allergic to cats, so I caught her, carried her into anti-cruelty society, & said a tearful good bye. I made them put a note in her file that if she couldn’t get adopted or if she was slated to be put down, that I would come back for her. They told me not to worry, said they’d take care of her, and that she’d see a vet ASAP because she had a bloody nose. I called every day for 7 days- she still hadn’t seen a vet & there were no updates in her status. On day 7, someone said “oh, there’s a note. She’s scheduled to be put down because she’s scared & not eating much.” They never called me. I rushed over there & convinced them to give her to me. They made me buy her back - even though they were going to kill her- hadn’t treated her injuries, nothing. These people are MONSTERS & will kill that cat- never bring an animal here. BTW, El is thriving in the home I found her. Worst shelter ever.
There are training classes available, but all classes require the owner to be present. Training needs to include teaching the owner as well as the dog.
Really sorry to hear that don't you want to at least keep a couple of them i would love to take 1 in if possible i have 2 small dogs already I'm wondering if they would get alone send me a text again if you want me to take 1
Sure, you can come visit our animals any time the adoption center is open (noon to 7 M-F or noon to 5 on S-S). We even have a reading program so you can come a read to the animals! They seem to really like it!
It's really crazy how the city of Chicago release a animal dog to someone that is not responsible
Yahab Ban Yahawadah | Sep 11, 2020
Natalia G | Sep 11, 2020
They try to get these pets to anyone it's crazy. I dont understand how people surrender their animals and then ask if they can get them back. They already have given the animal the stress of being thrown out of their family and now they want to bring them back like its no big deal? None of this makes sense to me.
I would like to pick up my sweet 10 yr old cat surrendered in May 2019. How do I go about doing so? Readopt?

PLEASE HELP!! My kittens eyes are closing back shut and discharge keeps coming out What do I do??
Triniti Scott | Sep 12, 2019
Carrie Lipsey | Sep 12, 2019
If I had a kitten, I would wrap the kitten up and blanket to help keep him steady and warm water on a soft cloth and hold it there until you're able to wipe it all away. Kittens get this but keep an eye on it just incase there is pus. If so call a vet to see if you can get the cat in to get drops. You might find drops at your local per shop.
I have a cat of 4 years old. A great cat. But my job has more demand on my time which I have to be away longer than I should. I want to drop him off but mot have him put down. He needs a loving family. Is this a place that can find a home for him?

I’m wondering around how much is it to adopt a cat
Don Mendez | Sep 12, 2018
BRYAN HOUSE | Sep 12, 2018
Well, they will gladly give you one free. If you meet the poverty requirements. But the standard aboption fee is around $25 -$30 for a cat. Kittens are more
Animals come fixed. And that is what you are really paying for.
Anti-cruelty cant help with this but go to the Lost Dogs of Illinois Facebook page and they can help you create flyers and will post your dog on the page. They are extremely helpful and help owners find many dogs! Good luck to you!!!
I understand what you're going through. Everyone says you'll know when it's time but i didn't. I guess when you know he is in pass in that's not removed by the medicine and he can't do the things he liked to do, it'll feel more right. Just try to make the best decision for him not for you... Peace
Remind Bill of this answer because he accused me of not wanting my cat anymore and that is not true! My cat was suffering from diabetic complications and I grieve over the humane decision I had to make over my cat.
Hi. I have a dog. Female 8 years old. German pincher. I’m moving out of state and can’t take her with me. Can I bring her for adoption?
Julia Vorobeychik | May 14, 2022
Neko Mimi | May 14, 2022
Call them directly because this is not an official page that is monitored by the business. Whatever answer is posted here will be outdated by the end of the day because it depends on if they have any open spots and that changes hour by hour depending upon who comes in and abandons an animal vs. how many people come in to adopt.

Because it costs alot of money to take care of the hundreds of animals the society cares for.

Yes! Bunnies can be spayed/neutered. The Anti-Cruelty Society does not offer this service to the community but your veterinarian should be able to do this.
Hi Laura, We're sorry your cat isn't feeling well. It would be best to take your pet to a private vet for an examination and find out what's going on. We wish you all the best.
Yes, they take in animals. They seem to be kind and understanding. These things happen to the best of us good luck. Sorry you have to let your baby go.

Do they sell small dogs?
Angel Love | Sep 11, 2020
mark stonkus | Sep 11, 2020
They don't "sell" dogs but their website has a lot of sizes and types shown for adoption.
You can walk the dogs in a mini park within the facility. I found that the dogs had been trained to run up to and jump on the benches and sit. It's quite cute. Endearing even.
Fastest way is talk to your landlord and have their number on hand so they can call them. Bring is shot records for your dog or cats if you have any living with you.

So sorry to hear about this. The Anti-Cruelty Society does not offer general veterinarian services. You can see a list of veterinarian ambassadors we are affiliated with at anticruelty.org/find-a-vet if you need to find a veterinarian. Good luck!
Actually, the cost for kittens is $120 and that includes all vaccinations, microchipping and spay/neuter surgery. Check out the available animals online at anticruelty.org/adopt There are several locations where cats are available and the website is updated in real time. Hope you find the best forever kitty for your gf. Check out whats needed to adopt at anticruelty.org/adopt-process
At this point your private vet can talk to you about what could be causing the allergies. It could be environmental allergies or something in your pup's diet. Also, make sure that your pup is on a flea and tick preventative to ensure fleas and ticks are not the issue. Hope this helps!

Male dogs cannot be in heat, but females can. If you have a female dog in heat, you will have to wait until the heat cycle is over before you can have her spayed. If you have a male, he can be neutered at any time.

Lisa Conway | Sep 12, 2019
You can always call the police to report it-check out this link, as well. https://www.aspca.org/take-action/report-animal-cruelty
One of a few things you can do. If you live in Chicago call 311 and make a report. Also you can call Animal Welfare. But before you do have you tried talking to your neighbor? I do understand that there's some people who you rather not have that type of conversation but if they're the approachable type then do that first. Because other 2 options are easy to figure out who made the complaint.
Also, try to talking them in a non confrontational and blameless way. Offer to help them out by giving them help in surrendering the dog.
I have found that some people might not have the funds to feed or get rid of the fleas that this dog might have.
Friend has had her cat 20 yrs. Then got stray cat about 6 years ago and he’s literally torturing her cat. He’s a terror-really. Chases & fights her constantly. her cat has lost weight. Is that from aging or is she in distress?

Sandy Berk | Sep 12, 2019
The Anti-Cruelty Society | Sep 12, 2019
Hi Sandy,
The cat neuter fee is $30 (which you paid online) and you pick up your cat the same day between 5:30-6:00 p.m. If you do not pick up your cat during that timeframe, you are charged an additional $55 boarding fee for the overnight stay. We do not recommend leaving your cat over night and only do this when no other pick up option is available. If you have questions, feel free to give our clinic a call at 312-645-8051.
Not sure what you mean by "back." If you gave up your cats because of an anxiety disorder making you indecisive, irritable or easily upset, consider this.
Its not whether you can. It's whether you should. Cats are VERY sensitive, easily upset. Think through
with someone, like a therapist, how your decisions impact your life and care of those cats. Its not a question for anticruelty to answer. Get yourself together first.
Yes. Our euthanasia services are available every day between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Yes! If the animal is being mistreated you are doing the right thing by trying to get the cat out of that situation. Depending on where you may have taken your dog within the last three weeks, ticks can be an option if you have walked in rather tall grass and/or bushes. I would check your dog's legs and spine for any ticks. If that is not the case, there may be a small tumor somewhere near the spine, so I would still go to the closest vet to check. Hope it helps!

Hi I have a question:i'm interested in adopting a dog as a companion for me, my spouse and my dog. is there the option of taking my dog to the society so Í can see the interaction between my dog and the one Í'd Like to adopt? Thanks in advance
Anti cruelty has an intake area. There's a free parking garage and you can get off at the intake area. Thanks for not just dumping him off by the side of the road. He'll find a good home!
Not sure but i believe spading is encouraged but not free and its probably not a bad idea enquire about the microchip for your puppy as well hope this was helpful. ✌
They just want the dog to have a good forever home, and want to be sure you can do that. They do not want the dog to be in the same scenario that out then at the shelter in the first place.
No. They want to make sure any animals that are adopted out go to stable homes. If someone lives in an apartment they even check with the landlord to make sure it's okay for the pet to be there. This was my experience when adopting our dog this past june.
Well sorry to hear that the shelter has many uses but if you feel its best to put him to rest then and there are animal shelters like paws and anticruelty they will assist you in that process once again good and i wish you the best.
Does the dog have a way to shelter himself? Go over and knock on their door and ask them if you can bring the dog into your house on cold nights if they refuse to do so. If the dog barks at night and disturbs you then call the police.

What? Please rewrite. I don't understand your words.
Remember that commercial "Phone 1st" well it applies here. The stuff will give you all the info you need. Plus I'm sure you need something from manager just to say you can have a fur baby in your unit.
1. Choose your Kitty 2. Get interviewed to see if it is a good fit 3. Pay the small fee 4. Take Kitty home. It took about an 2 hours for us because we wanted to hang out with the kitty we loved. Also remember to park in their garage if you are driving. It's free!
