A little history but it's important to the story and review. Caesar came into our lives 3 years ago. My fiancé & I had just moved into a new place and this cute stray kept showing up. We had a cat and of course cat food so we started feeding him too. After a time he brought a few other cats and even had babies with one under our porch. Fast-forward a bit and we adopt his 2 babies but Caesar isn't showing up much anymore. We've continued feeding the others that hung around but no Caesar then about 9 months ago we saw him 2 streets up in an empty lot so we stop. It turns out this is pretty much a feral cat colony so we decide to take it on and start feeding them all, everyday. About 7 weeks ago we saw that Caesar wasn't doing so well, he was limping a bit, the next day his paw was swollen, the next day both front legs were completely swollen so we jump in the car to KC Pet Project. We paid the $35 for the Feral vaccination/neutering and thought we would pick him up in maybe a week rather than the normal 2 days because of his legs. KC Pet Project kept him for over 7 weeks and spend what I am sure was thousands of dollars saving his life. At one point they thought it was over but by some miracle and some very skilled & caring Vets & others at KCPP workers he actually recovered. Today he is in our home with his 2 daughters (and now his grandchildren as they both just had kittens) and a new brother (who is now neutered so no more kittens). In the time between meeting Caesar and bring him home we also took a very sick little kitty to KCPP that they tried their hardest to save but she was unfortunately too sick and 3 little kittens we found with eye infections that had just seen their sibling killed by a negligent person's Pitbull (lease laws exist for a reason people!). The little kittens are thriving, healthy and will most likely be adopted any day now. We are not rich people by any means and get tapped out feeding our feral colony sometimes but whenever we've taken KCPP an animal in need of help but were unable to pay they have never turned us away. We have met several people several departments there and every single one has been incredible. I am the kind of person that will absolutely leave a bad review or even just an average one but KC Pet Project has been incredible to us, everyone we know and every animal we have brought them. I am eternally grateful for all of their hard-work, caring and compassion. Picture #1 Picture of Caesar when we first met him and Picture #2 is Caesar lounging on the bed today! (the lighting is weird but it is for sure the same cat lol)

just now NEW We adopted a dog 2 weeks ago now and had a great experience! We worked with Brina and Randall to do a dog to dog greeting to make sure it would be a good match. They were very knowledgeable and great to work with. Thankfully it was a good match and we were able to bring home our new family member. The shelter overall is very efficient as well. They try to match people with the best possible furry friend. We adopted Enver (we renamed him Denver) and would highly recommend adopting from them. They really know their animals and take the time to make sure it’s going to be a good fit for both the animals and the humans

The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. I love all the animals. It’s a pretty quick and easy process. All these animals deserve a loving furever home! Adopt don’t shop! Go check out the animals they have available. They also offer “early bird hold” for strays that come in on hold waiting to see if owner claims. These animals are so sweet!
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
Pay the surrendering fee (25) and fill out the paperwork. Then give up your dog.
Lots of loving fur babbies ready to go, go find yours.
How much do they charge too drop off strays?
It also depends on if they are running a special. Some dogs can be 75-100 bucks. Not a bad deal for all the medical they do! 😊
Call and ask for the lost and found lady she can help you you can also call zona rosa lovation they can help too
Thru Spay & Neuter you cam pay $10 (also get shots included & microchop during events for that $10) a Vet can charge more $12 - $15
The Missouri Department of Conservation will at least lead you in the right direction.
There are a bunch of "itty bitty pitties" they have at Kc pet projects. They are getting a bigger facility this next year. There is also the aspca, animal haven and other pounds in Kansas and Missouri. If you are truck riding I'd suggest a small dog whether an itty bitty pity (with tons of time with toys) or a protective chiwa or mini Pincher. Or you could get a lazy English bulldog. Whatever your desire talk to a behaviorist. You don't want an antsy boxer jumping for 5 years everywhere in sight. I say probably a Shi-Zumba and prom mix. You get the cuteness of a poem but the smarts of a shitzu. Its Kinda a nice combo coming from a large dog person. But, if you want a baby for you and an attack dog to everyone else. Get a chiwa. I have one and she's much more brave than the other dogs and she protects her mommy. She is also potty pad trained but you have to be very very consistent. Have any questions? Text me, I'm a dog trainer. Thanks for opening your heart.
I may. I hope you know you are talking to a person and not the shelter. Everybody I have here is adopted.I'm actually a volunteer zoo member and a dog trainer. Shhhh. People think I'm Dan Rebacoff from the popular Steve Wilkos. No that's Just the pic I took. I am quite silly. .....so,... Just kidding everyone knows I'm a fake person, I don't have kids and I'm 37. I'm in the process of working on a highly dangerous dog. I have a chiwa and several birds. (The least pets I've had) I think if you provide everything, heat block, light, pool, terrarium, everything but his food we may be okay. What do you have for this poor guy and what has he been eating? How old is he and what color? Why are you getting rod of such a simple pet?are you 8 or are your parents weird or are you a reptile hoarder? Please let me know because I'm investing in a huge dog that I am training for a guard dog now. I have no rabbits but used to have a food chain in my own place while I was going to college. Now I keep
KC Pet Project currently charges a $20 public off fee as outlined in the city ordinance. However, donations are encourage to help them care for the 13,000 animals they support. There are fees for animals who are surrendered to the shelter though.
Facebook would be the best way to do this. This forum is more for questions about the business.
59th and troost KC spay and neuter and they'll do low cost agree appropriate vaccinations.
U have to call and make a appointment. And its $20 on ur appointment day and u have to live inn Kansas city mo. And show proof u live in kansas city
They take cats and dogs but ask for a $20 fee and you fill out paper work..
Its hit and miss, we ended up adopting our cat from wayside. Much cleaner and more organized facilities.
Independence animal on Noland road. Or 5900 troost they can help as well
Thanks Barbara Melton come look at what we have Ma'am
All kinds of animals.they do have the larger and medium-sized seperated from the little ones also puppies separated too
KCPP is the city shelter for residents of KC MO.
Just ID and adoption fee money. Not sure what the fee is at the moment, but it shouldn't be much. They'll have a carrying box you can get to transport the kitten home too. 😸
Yes... instead of teaching the dogs like you would a puppy...you learn from the dogs to understand them. It is a different kind of pet ownership.
You have to be 16+ to volunteer by yourself but if you are younger than 16 then you have to be accompanied by an adult
Sometimes there are kittens available but not always. You need to go to the shelter
Puppies are available, they do tend to be adopted faster however.
No, KC Pet Project is not a dog-sitting service.
Probably a pet store
It's best to try and rehome them yourself. Ask family, friends and/or co-workers first. There's a fee to leave them at the shelter and with the overwhelming amount of pets coming into the Shelter, there are no guarantees.
For vet care? Only if you have a foster. Otherwise no
If it's not on the website then it's not available
Yes
Try contacting Pet Resource Center of Kansas City, N.A.W.S., Thrive Affordable Vet Care or Humane Society of Greater Kansas City.
Not right now we are awaiting the start of kitten season which is soon. Of course they will just begin being born so by May we should have many available
Please check out the KCPP website. It is updated with available animals and which location they are at.
Students can do community service there. You have to fill out a volunteer application on the website and attend an orientation.
You would have to go up there to see the kitties and they could tell you there how much they are it varies
They suggest going online, looking at them, narrow down and when you fill out survey put the names down. Survey includes what you may be looking for and why. Then they may make further suggestions or confirm your named ones are aligned with your wants.
Call the shelter and make an appointment to bring them in. You must be a Kansas city resident. We do not have pick up service.
Hi Kelly, please give us a call at (816) 683-1383 at your earliest convenience and we'd be happy to see what we can do to help you!
The best option would be to call before you make the drive.
Hello! Please give us a call at (816) 683-1383 and we will be happy to connect you with our Animal Services Division. Our Animal Services Officers may be able to come out and check on the dog, and help her get medical treatment if needed. Thank you!
They do I'm not sure how old they have to be but people drop off boxes of puppies all the time.
https://kcpetproject.org/animal-services-division/animal-services-report-form/
Thank you. When you say all ages, there truly are young kittens
I would advise that you go to KC pet project and speak with one of the adoption counsellors about what size guidelines you want to stay within, and the fact that you don't have a yard. That way maybe they can assist you with selecting a dog that you might have overlooked if you were only looking for a certain breed. They know the personalities of the dogs better than you can tell just by looking at a breed and the staff is so friendly, helpful, and generally amazing!
Are they babies?
They have a facebook page just type in the search kc pet project and it will bring up several choices
Call KC pet project and they have a whole list of animals and places to post on. I'm currently searching for my missing ancient dog. Next door, kckspca, lost animal sites on fb. I hope you find them. Post pics.
If you are in KCMO, you can take them to KCPP and they will care for them.
Going through same situation myself Valerie Ramirez
All animals are dewormed, have flea prevention and heartworm prevention on board as well as current vaccines. The price you pay for adoption does not cover all of this cuz why the shelter is all always needing donations. A lot of people will say the adoption prices too much but when you add up all of those services it's a fraction of the amount.
Currently they don't I believe they are working on having a clinic in the futurefor the public. For now try spay and neuter KC or in the Northland or try The Northland Animal welfare society (NAWS)
I would call them maybe they could help with a foster until you can get your dog back
Good afternoon Ms. Sumbi call before you go and ask all the questions you need to know. 1 thing that is for sure they will work very hard to find your pet a good home. Have a good day.
You can call and set up an appt with them
You are welcome to adopt a puppy and train it for therapy, but we do not train, not can we guarantee that the puppy will be good for it
Right now the vet clinic is only for the animals with KC Pet Project. Now that they are in the new facility they are looking to expand to public services, but not available yet. Kansas City Spay and Neuter is a good low cost alternative.
It ranges from $100 to $300 and sometimes they have adoption events when the animals go as low as $30. Just keep an eye out for them.
The Kansas City Animal Shelter does not provide spay and nuder services. Kansas City Spay and Nuder does. Their address is: Spay & Neuter Kansas City 1116 E 59th Street Kansas City, MO. 64110 That is off of 59th and Troost
There are none currently in any locations.
I dropped off a stray cat I trapped. $20 fee no appt required.
take the pup to the shelter and talk to someone there, they will be able to help you more than anyone here.
Yes they are moving to a building closer to the zoo. The Kansas City Campus for Animal Care and KC Pet Project are thrilled to announce that their new campus will officially open for city services to the public on Wednesday, January 1st at Noon. The campus is located in Swope Park across from Lakeside Nature Center and down the street from the Kansas City Zoo and Starlight Theatre. Operations of city services will transition from the current operations at 4400 Raytown Road to the new campus at 7077 Elmwood Avenue on January 1 for all services related to animal sheltering including adoptions, lost and found pet services, stray and owner surrender intakes, and more. The shelter at 4400 Raytown Road will no longer service animals of Kansas City, MO as of January 1st.
Yes! $25 for any adult animal!
They are open from 12-6 normally, but I believe they close at 5 on the 18th for a staff holiday event. All available dogs are on their website.
KC Pet Project is having a Black Friday special this weekend at all their locations. Recommend you plan on doing a dog-to-dog intro before the adoption.
Come in and talk with someone about volunteering. I'm sure they'd love to have help!
Come in and talk to someone here. If they can't rehome him, they will tell you about another organization that can help. Adopt-a-Pet.com also says they help with re-homing pets. Good luck!
Wow.....I'm not being flip when I say very good question👍....I wish I knew the answer to it 😞......Will be watching to see if someone can answer for us!......thanks for inquiring about it, anxious to know the answer......
A donation to surrender a dog is not to high borrow it don't turn loose and make it scared
You'll have to call them and make an appointment to surrender her to them.
Download the kcpp app to see. It is always up to date. If she is in there she is not adopted.
Yes you may have to give them 20 dollars. Just don't tell them where they were found. Or you can just run up and leave the carrier. All shelters have areas they do and don't accept animals from. When I find little ones I always tell them it was somewhere near the shelter. You are a good person doing a good thing! ❤
Yes you can they will not turn you away it doesn't matter where you live
It costs $20 to drop off an animal found in Kansas City, MO. Animal Control also picks up lost pets for free if you call 311.
Not at this shelter. Some shelters will charge you a surrender fee even if you tell them it's not yours. SMH. We love KC pet project
Yes
Yes we can! They can be dropped off at any of our locations.
What do you mean? Come to the shelter? Come to your house? Inspect for what?
Look in their website they show what dogs are for adoption
You can't adopt it back and wouldn't be able to adopt for a lil bit but after awhile could adopt again
Well sure they have hypoallergenic animals they have tons of animals a huge variety definitely get up there and check it out
Had a friend work there and yes they send animals out to be euthanized elsewhere mostly pitbulls😔 please adopt
Wayside Waifs, KC Pet Project or SPCA of Great Plains in Mission. All are awesome pet shelter's.
You need to call make an appointment. It's a 25 dollar surrender fee.
You should definitely call first.
Just take your puppy there bring your i.d. and let them know your issue..They will have you sign paperwork and pay a $20 fee and than it will get his or her shots and check up and if healthy be put up for adoption GOID LUCK
Not sure, better call.
Take him to the shelter and i believe they have adoption opportunities
Try contacting them directly instead of asking people on google maps.
You should check their app, it's called KC Pet Project and you would look under the "Other" category. Right now they don have any ferrets, just a rabbit, frog, turtle, and a few guinea pigs, but they're always getting different animals so it's possible that they may get one in the future. Prices will depend on the animal and you'll most likely have to call for that information. You could also check Wayside Waifs near the grandview area as I know they frequently have ferrets and other animals.
You'll need to call and inquire. The adoption fees can vary by animal.
8 weeks old is the minimum in age that a kitten can be adopted
Yes they all sizes of animals Joyce
Each one is a different price. They are posted on their cages and online at kcpetproject.com. also they have specials sometimes on their prices.
I would get rid of my spouse before I got rid of my furbabies.
I agree look on there website and or go and ask to look and see for yourself
All sizes they keep the little dogs in seperate room,
Dogs get 3-4 Port breaks a day. They learn potty training so as not to need their boarding space. Of course these things depend on their age, fear levels, possible past abuse, etc.
Yes. There is a drop off fee
License your dog up-to-date on shots. Loved taken care of and not running loose unless in fenced yard leash law when out of yard.
They do come with their shots. You would have to call them about pricing.
Wayside waifs?
Since you found it they should take it in but it cost $20. https://kcpetproject.org/services/lost-found-pets/straypets/
Still looking for a pitbull puppy??
It depends on the type of animal. Dogs; 100 to 300, cats; 25 to 50, & other; 20 to 100.
Kansas City Pet Project has free dog food for people who can't afford it. The dog food is stored in what they call the SNAP cage. All you need to do is ask an associate for help.
Item donations are used on the animals. Monetary donations can be used on supplies or on projects such as transporting animals from other shelters (especially kill shelters from states like Oklahoma, Gpspca does a lot of that) or possibly training or overhead.
That’s not rational though done people need more time to locate a lost pet
They don't do outside dogs. They are not a vet and do not take other dogs. Try kc spay and neuter
Take them to the shelter. They have a surrendered by owner option.
Depends on the Dog. Range is $75-$300 (puppies and purebreds being on the high end because they are highly sought after)
Post in various Facebook rehoming/adoptable pet groups for help.
Yes, I believe there is a small fee for cremation but it is minimal.
They have mostly mixes but you will find some purebreds too (especially in small dogs). They have dogs of all sizes. Today they began an adoption special on dogs that have been at the shelter more than 120 days (4 months) can be adopted for $25. Their kennels are full and those pups need out of there.
I was told between $90 and $140 depending on the dog. Look for specials on their web site.
He is not, not, my cat! He a Korat that a very expensive breed! His owner needs to get him fixed. Our cats are Feral Cats, and both were fixed The day Spay and Neuter came and got our cats he was missing in he needs to go home
You could also check on pawboost app.
Visit their website, it has all the online forms and links :)
Yes, they like if you call and make an appointment. Thank you for helping the cats!
They're understaffed. The place is always crowded, it may be hard for them to get to the phone.
No, if you adopted from them they gave you a copy in your adoption packet, if you lost it I would recommend stopping by.
They take in all rodents that I am aware of.
And
If you get a pet from kc pet project it will be chipped vaccinated and altered and healthy dog I can and will tell you if they find out ANYTHING negative about the pet they will tell you Peroid dot end of conversation. These folks to a great and compassionate work.
Reach out on the Nextdoor website for a rescue group to help. They will come to you where you would need to take cats to animal control
I have 2 pups husky mix german shepard boy and girl that 4 mons old looking for a forever home
I adopted my dog and right after it was finalized she was off the site. Like before we got home. If he is on the site then they have him.
They will charge you to take a dog you're bringing in freely
I have fostered a lot of dogs for KCPP, most of them have been seniors and their adoption fee tends to be less. There are also a lot of adoption specials throughout the year too.
Call the main phone number and they should be able to help you as long as you have the ID numbers. Be sure to check the hours they are open to increase the chance you will be answered immediately and not have to leave a voicemail, although in my experience they are good about following up on voicemails.
You can always visit the babies to see if still there
Only to animals "in custody." If a stray animal is picked up or surrendered they WILL have all shots before leaving as it is required. (They will also be spayed if no owner comes to claim in a timely manner - and KCMO requires pit bulls to be altered
Questions submitted here come to local volunteers. The shelter has a lot of animals and they work hard to take good care of them and find new homes. Sometimes answering the phone is not the first priority. I'm sure they'd be happy to train you as a volunteer, though, so they can answer more phone calls
They have a 20 fee for dropping off an animal. And animal control does not pick up cats.
Not easily, but call first and they will help you in the back.
Costs money but you're welcome to call. ...
Because so many towns make them illegal to own and so many apartments ban any dog that has ever been considered semi aggressive. It's stupid and outrageous. I just got my girl emotional support dog registered.
If you want to surrender an animal to the shelter, you need to take it there so they can process it and you'll have to pay a fine
Just animals that come in and are up for adoption ......not for the public
Google "pet rescue" in your area for resources
They have the pretty regularly, the best thing to do is follow the on Facebook or check their website.
December 15-24 adult cats are only $20. You said you are wanting a kitten, but please be open to meeting some of the amazing cats available. They need a home for the holidays and are likely already trained not to scratch furniture, etc. Just a thought. Good luck with your search!
Yes and you have to make an appointment before dropping them off. You should check around your neighborhood and local lost and found pages before bringing them in.
It costs $20 per animal, required by the city ordiances. Please go up and talk to a KC Pet Project staff member. They will assist with ensuring the animals get the best possible rehomes.
Yes they do. You can contact the foster coordinator to sign up! Fostering really saves lives!
You can call the office with the number. Or check there website it's updated pretty often to see if you see the dog.
If you're asking if pets are free, no... there is a rehoming fee. There are specials and discounts often. Call the exact location for more information.
The website is full of information. Also people are full of info on the phone lines
I would call animal control directly. KC Pet Project runs the shelter, but animal control catches the animals. You could also consider talking to KC Spay and neuter clinic on Troost. There is a program my neighbors have used in which we trapped the kitties humanely, they did the spay or neuter, then the kitties were released in the neighborhood again. If you can find homes that's the best, but if you can't the capture and release program can really help.
Probably next special will be around thanksgiving day, usually go for $25....
Call animal control for help or you can drop the cat off at KCPP if you're a KCMO resident. There's a $20 fee to drop off that is mandated by city ordinances.
Take them to KC Pet Project on Raytown Road immediately. They can care for them properly.
Have had great experiences with KC Pet Project. They have always done a good job of looking out for the animals first. There are a couple locations here in KC just look up KC Pet Project.
The main number will probt you to pick an option. One will be about surrending pets. Select that one. They are busy so it may take a couple tries.
If you have a Kansas City address Kansas City Pet Project will take the dog with a rehoming fee I have I think a questionnaire for you just to see how the dog handles other animals and people is it potty trained that kind of thing isn't up to date on its shots but have to have a Kansas City address
Under 16 can volunteer with an adult. Sixteen and over can work independently. As you consider volunteer opportunities, remember there are also opportunities to foster pets and to maintain the Petco Cat Habitats. It's a fabulous organization. The employees are tenacious and have so much heart!
They also take small animals like domesticated rats and rabbits.
Only thru the 10th. But their normal fees arent to high
That is their goal!
The hours at the main shelter are 12- 6 Monday through Saturday and 12-5 on Sunday. The main shelter is near Arrowhead stadium at 4400 Raytown Rd. It's a great place to find your next best friend.
