A dog showed up at where I work and was clearly starving and probably dumped I cannot afford dog food as I paid all my bills but I want to help is there any place that could help with dog food temporarily until I can figure out what the best plan

Kansas City Pet Project has free dog food for people who can't afford it. The dog food is stored in what they call the SNAP cage. All you need to do is ask an associate for help.
