There has to be a better way! Received a notification that my driver's license was going to expire. I usually just go online, pay the fee, and wait for the new one to come in the mail. Well.... that was not the case this time.... Since I was required to upgrade to the new Real ID, I was required to go to the actual branch. So I figured I would set an appointment, go over on that date, and be done. But, noooooo..... There were no available appointments prior to my license's expiration date. Walk-ins take SEVERAL hours to get served, and some locations stop accepting walk-ins as early as 8:30am! I spent nearly 5 hours waiting for a 20 transaction. The only reason I gave 2 stars is that the majority of the staff had a pretty good attitude about the situation.
Heather and Michael Paterson
This place needs an overhaul. There shouldn't be 7+ hour waits. Atleast tell people an estimate so they can come back and wait an hour or 2......7 hour wait is ridiculous when there is a 2 month wait for an appointment. Staff are friendly but service stops there. My husband made an appointment over a month ago for me but accidentally put it in his name. They refused to let me do the appointment because it wasn't reserved in my name. Really?!? So guess what...7 hour wait and 2 hours of this is outside standing in the sun. Its 2022 where are the online services and technology to make the process better? Be prepared with water, food and a book.
Ashlie Gray
Made an appointment online and when I went the line moved quickly and the staff were helpful. A worker told me there was over a 3 hour wait for people that just walk in, recommend making an appointment if you can. I was in and out in less than an hour was pleasantly surprised with how quickly it went.
Jamie W
Only got a one because there is nothing lower.office hours are up to employees and don't match website. Employees rude and inefficient. 3 hour wait before opening because they close at 1 pm for walkins, but appointments are 3 mos out... do yourself the favor, keep your cars registered out of state, and blame covid, F--- Nevada. Being worse than California DMV is almost unfathomable...
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
7 to 10
I need a driving hand book how can I get it on line
Before the driver's test
That would be the wisest thing to do otherwise you can wait 6 hours like I did.
Call in, email or schedule an appointment via their online web site. Otherwise, you'll wait in line for a long time!
Only if your licence is going to expire. The only test required is the eye test.
They need a birth certificate, social security card and two proofs of address. You use the DMV 005 and DMV 016 forms if they don't have proof of address. https://dmvnv.com/dlresidency.htm You have to make appointments. Here's the teen driving page: https://dmvnv.com/nvdlteens.htm And ID cards: https://dmvnv.com/idcards.htm
I think you just can't walk in but I'm not sure make an appointment anyways and then just walk in there if you make an appointment you would get seen faster
As far as I know, I think you have to go to the DMV so you can request an extension. If they give it to you, I do not know if it's for a month or two months.
http://dmvnv.com/dlfees.htm
There are two ID cards that you can get. The basic one can just be renewed with a small fee, without two proofs of identity. The second one has a little star on it and that one you will have to have two proofs of identification. Everybody has to have the new license / ID card with the star on it by 2020 but you can get a regular one without the star before then and just change it before 20/20
Go early be there 730 am two lines ...one for appt..and walk in line.. get in that line...they cannot gurantee you will get in if you go later in day..i went stood in line for 2 hours and got in..its organized but a pain and i stesz the earlyness. They take all appts before walkin line.
Purchased a vehicle from NJ. Vehicle was shipped to me by a transfer company. Have a clear title. Can't get a moving permit because there is no registration in NV. Nv requires out of state vehicles to be inspected. How on earth do I get the vehicle there for smog and inspection? Can't get an appointment until 03/05.for title and registration Paying for insurance to have it parked in my garage. DMV won't accept calls, two days now.
What day and what DMV cause I went twice but had an appt. so luck or faith was on ur side, I was at the Decatur one.
Donavan Street, Cheyenne overpass south side of the road. They will have your answer. That is the only DMV that does CDL.
This is a question for the DMV. Is it a new purchase? Did you get it from a private party or a dealer? Is it a car you already had? Did you get a Smog Notice in the mail? You need to call...
There is no such thing as non operational in Nevada. If your not going to operate the vehicle park it and surrender the plates. You will need to do a new registration once you are ready to reoperate the vehicle.
I’m trying to get my ID as well but this is my first time ever getting one, I’m looking on the website and I don’t see any appointment for IDs so would it be still be a problem for me? Waiting in line is not a problem
MY CAR TAG EXPIRES ON NOVEMBER 6. I SENT IN THE PAPERWORK OCT 10 I HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY NEW TAG WILL I GET A TICKET IF I DONT GET MY CAR TAG BY NOV 6 ? DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT TO GET SOME PAPERWORK SAYING I CAN DRIVE TILL THE TAG GETS HERE ?
You have to take the written test to get the instructional permit. You have to have the permit to take the drive test. The difference between being 16-18 and being 21 is when you are a teen you have to have 50 hours (40 day & 10 night) documented and take a certified driver's ED course before you can take a drive test. At 21, you just have to have a permit and you can take the drive test.
I know you came it goes to Walmart and then you have to get off and walk up the street it's like a mile and a half the one on Sahara and McLeod you can reach by bus
No. Just bring all your documents and $42.
You would take the written test 1st then they will give you an appointment for your driving test
You can do it online
You got to take the driver's permit first
Does the North Decatur dmv do VIN inspections ? If so, do I need an appt. ?
Yes you can
Yes. Download their app, it's easy and faster. Smog check, registration, and current license. But i would check their website to be sure that is everything
If you can be there at 7 am in line you can get in and out by 8:30 tops. Depending on what service you there for tho. But being there before 8 am definitely guarantees you'll be out pretty soon.
I if I got there at 10 am about how long would the wait be today
Real ID is not mandatory. You can use a passport or other acceptable ID to fly and enter secure federal facilities. But, if you want to use your driver's license or state ID to fly, it will have to be a Real ID beginning 10/1/21. See https://getrealnevada.com/ and https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification
You have to show proof of identity, SSN and address no matter what. https://dmvnv.com/dlresidency.htm You can get a license without taking the tests if we run your license number and you have a valid TX license. If not, you can get an ID card.
I went to the DMV last month and a rep told me they were open on Saturdays
I just went in without appt with my documentation. Birth cert.,social security card, voter reg. Card, a utility bill (recent) also they accept auto ins. Card. If you've been married, you need all name changes.
The best thing to do is to go online and make an appointment for the location that you want to utilize. You can go down on Saturday and stand in a very long line. The earlier you get there the better.
https://dmvnv.com/dlresidency.htm always make an appointment, if you have a free day before appointment visit and visually look for yourself the lines being formed so you know where to stand and listen for your group to be called.
If the ID does not come today, you can use the Interim Document we issued when you applied. TSA should accept that, though you want to get there early in case they question it. If you don't have the interim document, you can print a driver history from our website. https://dmvapp.nv.gov/dmv/dl/OL_DH/Drvr_Usr_Info.aspx You can't get one at a DMV office.
An appt. is not needed, depending on the time you go, you will just have a longer wait than an appt. but no appt. is needed.
They will accept you as a walk-in if they have open windows. You may get only a movement permit.
Until they accept walk-ins, yes you'd need an appointment. I went this past Saturday to get my plates because they took walk-ins. My plates had been there for three months. They're talking about opening back up on Saturdays.
Driver's license info is definitely NOT public record. If you're waiting for your license in the mail, all you can do is send an email to see if it has been returned. It may take some time for an answer. https://dmvnv.com/contact_us.asp
You can surrender the plates at a DMV office or cancel the registration in a MyDMV account. https://dmvapp.nv.gov/DMV/Application/DMVPortal/Pages/Default.aspx If you don't do either, you will get insurance notifications when you drop the insurance. If you do, you'll have a credit for unused portion of the registration.
Any DMV office. No appointment is necessary.
Look early each morning about 90 days out for a new batch of appointments. You can get a movement permit without an appointment.
No, but you do not need an appointment. You can also cancel your registration online. https://dmvnv.com/platesurrender.htm
No. Walk-in services are limited to general information and document review, kiosks, movement permits, plate surrenders and VIN inspections.
You need to send an email to ask whether you can renew by mail. https://dmvnv.com/pdfforms/dmv204en.pdf https://dmvnv.com/contact_us.asp You have a 1-year extension, though your license will show as expired in the system. There is no guarantee anyone outside of Nevada will accept it. https://dmvnv.com/pdfforms/65-year-extension.pdf
We're offering new resident walk in hours in LV through Nov. 2. Otherwise, you have to make an appointment (online, not by phone). See this page and make sure you have what you need. https://dmvnv.com/newresident.htm
Depends on the age and value of the vehicle. Get an estimate here: https://dmvapp.nv.gov/dmv/vr/vr_estimate/vrestimationinput.aspx
Only if you're a new resident you do not need an appointment. And only during the special hours set for new residents only. Go to dmvnv.com
Make an appointment. Yeah it sucks but there is a grace period. You can go stand in line. But you will grow old. The appointments are like two months out. My registration expired and license to and made an appointment. In and out in an hour.
We have new resident hours from 7:30 to 9:30. Other than that, walk-in services are limited to general information and document review, kiosks, movement permits, plate surrenders and VIN inspections.
If you have a loan or lease on the vehicle, you will not receive the title until it is paid off. If you paid for the vehicle, the first thing is to check with the dealer to ensure it was submitted. If so, send an email to ask. It may take some time for a response. https://dmvnv.com/contact_us.asp
All you can do is keep trying. Those with appointments they don't need should cancel. Don't call. We can't schedule appointments by phone.
All cars need a smog to register unless you are registering a classic vehicle. A classic vehicle is 25 years old.
You have to have a document labelled "Nevada Evidence of Insurance" either in your car or on your phone to present to the DMV and to law enforcement at all times. A bill from the company is not acceptable.
You make an appointment here: https://dmvnv.com/appointments.htm The new resident phone numbers were temporary and are no longer available.
Look here: https://dmvapp.nv.gov/qmaticwebbooking/#/search If it's for a drive test, you just have to visit the office and ask.
From the website... "Is Your Registration Early or Late? You may renew online approximately 35 days before expiration or up to 18 months after expiration. The system will automatically calculate any late fees. Please note late fees are non-refundable. Registrations expire at midnight of the expiration date listed on the Certificate of Registration."
You can't do that by email. Bring it to a DMV office and drop it off. It'll be processed within a couple of days.
Yes...but try doing it online first. You'll have to make an account if you don't already have one.
Kiosks should be upgraded , so people won't get thrown out .
Each DMV has their own so there is no way to know what your path will be
Keep checking daily for someone to cancel. About the only option
Visit the new resident page. https://dmvnv.com/newresident.htm
I'd go early and check with the outside staff...you may get lucky.
Depends on the office. Sahara and Decatur offices did have some at 7AM.
Yes, if you bought the car from a Nevada dealer and it doesn't hit any of the restrictions. See the Instructions. https://dmvapp.nv.gov/dmv/vr/edrs_online_reg/vehreginit.aspx#
Yes
It's best to make an appointment but the wait for an appointment is about 2 months. I just was there yesterday and the line for walk ins wasn't too bad early on in the morning but was long by 11 am
You can get the book from DMV
DMV is not open for services on Saturday but they have expanded their weekday hours from 7A to 6P.
By appointment
You'll have to make an appt online and may have to go in w/ documentation
Go to dmvnv.com and look for the appointment link. But you can probably mail the form to Carson City and get the placards back faster. https://dmvnv.com/pdfforms/sp27.pdf
You attend the scheduled appointment. There is no walk in period anymore.
No, we are now closed on Saturdays starting 8/15. We are offering extended hours during the weekdays starting next week. Here is a news release: https://dmvnv.com/news/20014-extended-hours-closed-saturday.htm
Only on Saturdays. You absolutely have to get there early. I just went this past Sat and arrived at 3am only to be #61 in line. A DMV worker told me the first people got there the night before around 9pm
No, appointment only. With the exception of Saturday mornings.
Good luck either way.
I was there 2 Saturdays in a row. 1st time got there at 6am and that wasn't near early enough to get into the full service line. There were people there as early as 2am. 2nd Saturday got there 430a and I was literally the last person of the day to get in. So yes you can renew but get there early. Also they have a little publicized thing called customer service appointments which you can get on any day of the week showing up in person. There's no guarantee they'll have availability but if someone doesn't showup for their appointment you can get in. It's unfortunate they don't tell the public about it but I guess it would defeat the purpose.
Yes, use the license plate number and last 4 digits of the VIN. https://dmvnv.com/regrenewal.htm
More than likey not. We recommend contacting the Nevada DMV for confirmation. We can tell you with certainty that if your vehicle was in Nevada and required California car registration, California would not allow a Nevada emissions inspection in lieu of a California emissions inspection.
Only if you have an address to provide in Las Vegas
No you can not change address at the kiosk, you need to set up an appointment to do that inside with an agent.
We do walk-ins on Saturdays. If you do get it registered, please cancel the appointment.
Yes, you can. https://dmvnv.com/platesdisabled.htm
You have to go, and first make an appointment, then you can get it done
You must have an appointment, they will check to see if you are on the list, prior to letting you inside. My daughter took her driving test and they only allowed her to go inside, I had to wait outside the building.
Walk-in, but for limited hours.
All 65+ older dl/id just got extended one additional year as of the 27th of june.
Yes, but you have to make an appointment online. If you bought the car from a Nevada dealer, you should register it online. https://dmvnv.com/regonline.htm
You have to cancel the plates in the DMV so that later you do not have surcharges.
You need an appointment Monday through Friday. Walk-ins are accepted on Saturday.
Are you currently a resident of Nevada
You should probably call the Emissions section at 702-486-4981. And/or you can renew by mail or fax with an EC 8 application. https://dmvnv.com/pdfforms/ec8.pdf
Yes. Available online or if you go in person you can get a sooner appointment. NO taking walk-ins
You can make an appointment to register the trailer at DMVNV.COM. The boat is registered with the department of wildlife.
Go to your nearest office location to pick up your 2020 hand book
Yeah.. just make a appointment on line.. its quick and easy to get a appointment... you will be in and out very quickly on your appointment date..
If the vehicle is located out of state, highway patrol within that state.
I went down yesterday and they had me make an appointment which is in September. There is a paper that you can get that pushes dates back.
Hi Ken, we can help you with that service. We need the Police Report the Registration and Insurance Id Card. It must be done in person. Our temporary hours are from 830 to 2:00 p.m. Monday to Friday
Yes. Be sure you have everything you need. https://dmvnv.com/
Go to the website, it will show if/when/where appointments are available. This is a map-site, we're all volunteers here, we can't book appointments.
According to the DMV, you can order the placards by mail or fax. Jay
4 to 6 hrs

If it's just a renewal, yes
Yes
Is your classic vehicle newer than 1968 and based in Clark County? That's probably why. Here's a link to the requirements: https://dmvnv.com/emission.htm
I used my passport instead of a birth certificate
Make an appointment here: https://dmvnv.com/dashpass.htm
More than likely Keemaya is right each 1 has a portal online and you can check appointment availability there.
Read the form: "THE FOLLOWING ATTACHMENTS MUST BE INCLUDED (this SR-1 report will be considered VOID if not attached): (1) a copy of your insurance that was in effect on the date of the crash for the vehicle involved; (2) an estimate of repairs or a statement of total loss if there was $750 or more in vehicle or property damage (of any one person); and (3) a doctor’s statement of injury for each person injured in your vehicle (if the crash resulted in bodily injury or death)"
I would highly recommend you do so
If you're under 21 you have to do the knowledge test. It's $42.25. Make sure to bring birth certificate and social security card and 2 utility bills also.
If an instruction permit is expired less than 30 days, then no written test is required for renewal. If the instruction permit has been expired more than 30 days then a written test is required for renewal.
Title paperwork and smog and insurance
Next day on drivers exam. Read online and you will pass. Some basic questions I've seen in past are 1. If Baby weights X lbs baby seat facing front/back?, 2. If speed limit not posted what's limit?, 3. School bus question like how many feet behind or stop both ways, 4. Feet to crosswalk, 5. Age curfews, 6. Pull over if ambulance... Basic need to know common sense questions. Don't be nervous skip and go back to one's you don't know off hand. Good luck! Be defensive driver.

Smog checks are required each year in Nevada. You do not need a renewal notice tohave a test completed. 1996 and newer vehicles are equipped with on board computers that continuously monitor performance: The vehicle will not pass an emissions test if the Check Engine light is on. Fees: Car registration - $33 Taxes are based on the original Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) set when the vehicle was new. The MSRP will not change over time regardless of vehicle age or condition. The first calculation is the DMV Valuation of the vehicle, which is 35% of MSRP. The DMV Valuation is then depreciated 5% after the first year and 10% per year thereafter until it reaches a minimum of 15%. The minimum Governmental Services Tax is $16.00. The Governmental Services Tax is 4 cents on each $1 of the depreciated DMV Valuation. The Supplemental Governmental Services Tax is 1 cent on each $1 of the depreciated DMV Valuation.
It could also be your postal carrier not delivering your mail like they're supposed to. I'd check with them to confirm your address too.
You have to go to the DMV and do an application for a duplicate title
Your registration from HI license plate insurance card
Yes u can schedule appointments online for any location

Yes. Make an office appt: https://dmvnv.com/dashpass.htm

https://dmvnv.com/dashpass.htm
https://dmvnv.com/dashpass.htm
They cost approximately $ 42.25.
Yup I did all that. When I got to my appointment the nice lady asked for the W2 or 1099. I told her I don't work for somebody so I don't receive those documents. I showed her my last year federal tax return, which has my Ss# and ID information all over it. Still no good, Nevada requires W2 or 1099.
No
No they run about a week out. But you can check in case someone cancels

If it's for a first time placard or renewal of a moderate/temporary placard, have your doctor fill out our form: https://dmvnv.com/srchrslt.htm?q=placards and make an appointment. If you need a replacement for a lost placard, make an appointment to request a replacement.
You don't and numbers are not skipped, they are not in order. If you have questions or concerns about your place in line, information is available to assist.
Mailed
Depends on how long it's been expired and moving violations. Less than 1 year expired and no moving violations, no testing for renewal.
Not likely, but your question is unclear. Best to make an appointment and speak with a technician. https://dmvnv.com/dashpass.htm

What Nicole said 👍👍
The title is 29.25 but registration is based on the depreciated msrp value. You can find the price of the title and registration on dmvnv.com and any other questions you may have.
To renew your nv license, to fill out an application and $42.25, but if you would like the real id, if you don't already have it, you need a certified birth certificate or valid us passport for proof of birth, ssc card or w2 for proof of social and two bills dated within 60 days with your name and current nv address and of course the application and $42.25
Go to the dmvnv website appointment portal to do that, it is very simple. https://dmvapp.nv.gov/qmatic_appt/index.jsp
No, you must arrive with your own vehicle that has valid registration as well as valid insurance.

If it is new to Nevada they might require a vin check, otherwise proof of ownership is all you will neef
In Nevada plates belong to the person not a car so you can trade them between two cars you have registered in your name
You don't need to have insurance to get a vehicle moving permit, but, per Nevada law, you must have insurance to use the vehicle on a public road.
I think , so . Age I think is required. Can't drive it without insurance and safety check, and a registration
Yes. Make sure you renew it before it is expired more than 30 days or you will have to retest.

There are no smog checks at any DMV... Smog checks are done by private vendors...
There is no definite wait time, you must come in and just wait. First come, first serve.
At this moment no. There is no numbering system for now. The way things are done it goes smoothly.

It depends on what standby # you are. Standby is not guaranteed, you are hoping an appt does not show up on time or at all, so in other words it can be all day or never

Try a nice service to the DMV
At this point they are issuing the real id which is federally mandated. It requires all original or certified copies of documents. Those documents must be scanned into the federal data base. Aka the reason why you need your social security card and they won't take the dd214. Plus with this ID that everyone has to have THE GOVERNMENT made a list of acceptable documents, anything not on that can not be used and dd214 for social isn't on it. That is outside of Nevadas hands, we didn't make those rules. They tell us, we had to carry it out. But if you don't have your ssc, you can use a pay check stub, w2 or 1099.
dmvnv.com, no proof is required, dmv can locate your profile with your plates and license. There will be a duplicate fee for the license as well as an additional fee for a plate.
Yes, as long as it wasn't due to a medical condition. Other factors such as the expiration of the last issued DL would also affect the reissuance.
That sounds like calendar days
I guess if all is completed by rules
Yes

Doesn't anyone ever think of consulting the official DMV website or calling an office for these questions? Google Maps is not the DMV!
What I need for registration in a new car

You will need a social security card and a birth certificate to get an ID card. Proof of address a utility bill something similar to that would also help with your address verification.

Yes you can. You need to be logged in to the DMV website through MyDMV and you can purchase a 10-day moving pass for a couple bucks

The Nevada revised statute on Department of Public Safety with the highway patrol specifies that if they license plate is able to be placed in the front of the vehicle and there is a place for it you have to place one there. But if there is no place for the license plate to go like a in grooved slot you have to place one there or be in danger of a citation.
If you never had a new ID or an ID or driver's license from Nevada. You will need to bring your birth certificate or a copy of one like an abstract of birth. Social security card and a current bill with your name on it to the mailing address you will attach to the ID or driver's license. If you do not have a bill in your name to get a copy of the rental agreement or the lease, and that will work for identification of address. If you had another identification or driver's license in a different state with a different name you're requesting here you have to validate why. With something like a marriage certificate. If that is the case.
There is a huge list of things you can actually bring for your proof of address You can find them all on the DMV is website but for car registration you really only need to bring your out of state registration a vehicle inspection (which is done at the building on the DMV property this is to inspect the Vin And only needs to be done if your vehicle has never been registered in Nevada) you also need to bring your proof of Nevada insurance, And your small addae approved smog location and lastly don't forget to unscrew your out of state plates and bring them with
It depends on the yr ,make and model of the vehicle
https://dmvnv.com/nvregreq.htm You will need an appointment if you have to go to an office.
We serve walk-ins for movement permits, VIN inspections, kiosks and general information. Everything else requires an appontment. The office may take walk-ins if technicians are available but there are no guarantees. You may wait all day and not get in.
Depending on exactly what you need, you should call the Records Section. (702) 486-4368 and listen for the Records option. https://dmvnv.com/records.htm
You should go back to the information line at the office and ask them to look at what is in the system. Please note we give every DL customer a printout of their information to review and sign before finalizing.
If you log into your myDMV account you can update it. If you can't log in hit forgot password and it will allow you to change it once you answered your security questions. Reset password then log in with new email and pw.
