Wonderfully maintained park. Very underrated. Quiet, and was a wonderful place to unplug. Do not disregard the instructions for plenty of water, you WILL need as much as is recommended if not more. The bison were fun to admire as were the prairie dogs!

Awesome! Stayed here for 3 days and it was great! Beautiful landscape! I hiked from honeyflat camp all the way to the top of Haynes Ridge and to the fern cave and back, i did 13.5 miles in one day! And encountered a Bison on the trail which was so cool!

We’ve stayed here twice so far and have loved it both times. The RV sites are large and private. Bison walked thru the campground both times we were there, which was so fun to watch. There are also cute prairie dogs near the campground. Our absolute favorite part of all are the trails though….they are spectacular!

Phenomenal views everywhere you look. We were at Caprock and Palo Duro on the same weekend. Both are amazing, but for different reasons. We didn't hike much at Caprock due to time, but the trails we did hike were well maintained. Seeing the Bison was one of the best parts of the park. We will certainly be back to hike more of the trails!

There are sites for tents or rv's, a few cabins, and you don't need a license to fish here. :-)
No loud music or voices. Nothing that can disturb a neighbor. Usually 10pm to 7am.
Theo Lake is rather on the small size (as Bobbi pointed out... A large pond).. the easiest access fishing spot would have to be the boat ramp access point.
Eight or nine
Jacob is right. The burn ban was removed on the 6th of November
Verizon service (in my case) is very inconsistent and generally unreliable unless you are up high on the rim or on a plateau (Full bars and full data). Strange as it is I was able to make calls from the bathroom area at the South Prong Primitive camping sites.
Yes as long as they are on a leash and you pick up after them
It's great for stargazing. The lack of light pollution allows for some great opportunities almost every night (weather withstanding).
One of the greatest camp showers I have ever had. Watch for tarantulas.
For scenic views, the upper canyon loop and Haynes Ridge trail are by far the best in the park!
Last I heard yes. But the best way to find out is to call their office or check their fb page. They are pretty good at keeping that up to date.
Yes, small lake swim at your own risk. no lifeguards.
The ranger station isn't always open but also isn't far from the entrance.
Honestly, it is something that I cannot answer, because I have not worn one, nor have I seen anyone with one, but the truth is that I do not think there is any problem because there is absolutely nothing that prevents you from doing it, nor have I seen any regulations that prohibit it. .
The RV sites have a good amount of spacing, on average. The tent sites are on top of one another at the lakeside campground and more spaces out at the little red tent area.
Any time of year is good, but I was there in May and they were at the HQ near a watering hole (a dozen or so), and many at Lake Theo.
There is fishing, we were there a few weeks back, the water is very low. There were still a few people out fishing.
Yes it's open. We just camped there this week. They are just asking for people to bring their own water as they are still making repairs to their water tower and pumps.
Yes the park is open during covid. My advise would be to check the park website or texas parks and wildlife. Yes the park is open, but in lieu of the winter storm some areas are closed. We went valentine's weekend. They also post updates on various social media. They are also vaccinating the bison here,so they were not openly roaming. Beautiful scenery friendly staff.
With permit and right season
Yes! There are Equestrian campsites that are behind their own gate and each site has padlocks for the horses.
Lots of bison, prairie dogs, scorpions, lizards, and racoons (we had one go through our belongings two separate nights)
Yes, Caprock has a lake you can swim in as well as use non wake boats.
No only a lake. All rivers in the area are either dry ornjust small creeks
Pets are welcome. However some of the trails are extreme so keep that in mind if you have an older dog or a smaller, delicate breed.
Yes, there is parking by the main office, the boat ramp, or the individual travel trailer campsites.
There is a lake (large pond) in which boat, fish, and swim
..i'm not sure. There is a town near there that may be able to help you with that. The town is called Turkey, Texas.
The tunnel is several miles south of the park. -- https://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/wild/species/bats/bat-watching-sites/clarity-tunnel.phtml
There is a Walmart 4.0 miles from Cap Rock. There is also a Kroger and TomThumb with in 4.2 miles from there.
No cabins. Closest lodging would be in Quitaque, Texas
Leave time to tour the town of Turkey, TX. It is the home of Bob Wills, the father of Western Swing. If you are in to tourist traps and kitsch then you could eat at The Big Tex. But we have better food and it is long on show, short on substance. At the Canyon (Palo Duro), If you are good at hiking and like it, allow yourself a good amount of time to Hike the Lighthouse Trail. Snakes should be gone by then so it will be a good hike. Bring night hiking gear and a tri-pod with you. The night sky is gorgeous especially if we have High pressure over the area when you are here. But the moon over the hoodoos will make great pics, also sunsets can be stunning, but if you stay late enough to photograph during the golden hour you will be coming back in the dark, hence the need for headlamp. But the trail is well marked and mostly broad. Other shorter day hikes available. (Fortress and any that take you by the bluffs along the river). But dont think broad rivers like you have there.
It varies. I am not sure what the Canyon bottoms are but the ridge on the Caprock ranges around 3500-3900.
Sometimes you have to wait for a group of bison to cross the road. Otherwise it's a good road and worth the drive.
You can explore unless there are signs designating otherwise for maintenance. Proceed with caution, the terrain, botany, and most of the wildlife wants to kill you.
I think you might be thinking of a site in Palo Duro Canyon.
Trails are open every day. You need to pay at the office or self pay. I promice you will enjoy the trails
$18/night
There is riding in March, but it gets booked very quickly because of spring breaks.
Yes as long as you clean up after them. They are not allowed in any state park building though including the bathrooms.
Park closure alerts show Caprock Canyons State Park will be closed 12/17 @5pm until 2pm 12/21/18. The trailway will remain open. Otherwise, the park is open daily.
Just the rabies shot.
No burn ban, no fishing license in state parks.
Yes Sir. Just don't try to pet the Buffalo.
Yes. On a six foot leash. They are also allowed on trails.
Only if you know how to ride one
No, they are not allowed. Bicycles, horses, and hiking are the only activities allowed off the roads.
No not at the park. The cashier at Allsups told us the farmstore sold bait but they close at noon on Saturday.
Yes there are but you must call for availability!
They usually give folks until noon to leave. So if there was someone in that space already, you'd have to wait until then. Folks in the visitor center can tell you what the status is if you call. Note that the park is currently having intermittent power issues, so you may have to call more than once.
Generally state park campsites vary in size and tent space but can usually fit 2-3 smaller tents and there are no restrictions against this as far as I know.
Yes they do im not able to answer the question about the rates
Not really, there are a couple about 20min away. They are great home cooking and inexpensive to boot.
