One of the best if not the best state park in Texas. An amazing alternative to the next-door national park with similar, yet different scenery at the same time. The main draw to big bend ranch sp is the extremely rugged desert landscapes. It's harsh, brutal and unforgiving here and definitely more of a challenge to explore than the national park. That's part of the appeal here, you are extremely unlikely to encounter more than a couple of people if any out on any of the extensive biking or hiking trails. There are several standout areas like closed canyon and the hoodoos along river road, however to get deep into the park requires a 4x4/high clearance vehicle. If you like very rugged desert landscapes like me, then this place will not disappoint. It has some of the most spectacular desert scenery in the world and it's honestly shocking to me that this place does not get more attention, a must-visit place during any west Texas trip!

Big Bend NP has been on my bucket list and it did not disappoint. My wife was not keen on going and she was impressed. We will definitely go back. There is not much to do outside the park, but the park has plenty of hiking and sight seeing.

Breathtakingly beautiful family experience! Camped RV at Roadrunner at base of Bee Mountain and toured Terlingua, Canoed down Rio Grande River with Big Bend Boating & Hiking Co, and horseback ride to top of Lajitas Mountains with Lajitas Stables. Not many restaurants in this area so make sure you’re stocked up on food and water before heading here! 2+ hour waits for dinners at the handful of restaurants. Highly recommend!

There are immigration checkpoints on all three major roads into the area. Heading Nortn to Alpine, Marathon and Marfa from Presidio, Terlingua and Persimmon Gap. There is a legal border crossing to Mexico in Presidio.
They still ranch with hosses in a lot of Florida..they can cross wet ditches that sink 4 wheelers...
Big Bend is a very big park is imposible to explore it in one week. There is so mucho to see, do and enjoy, is a place you have to visit over and over to get to know it some and you will never be tired of it is truly a breathtaking place!
Yes you can fish from Texas State Parks from the shore which is included in your entrance fee. However there's not much water in the river. I brought fishing gear last week but it's so dry it's mostly just a creek in most places. Rio Grande doesn't even flow between El Paso and Presidio anymore
Probably about 8 hours, but consider seeing other things on the way. Alpine is a great town to visit.
Care is important, plenty of water, food, and stay on the trails, a snake bite kit could be necessary. A gun should only be used as a last resort. Check with park rangers as to firearms limitations.
No, streel legal vehicles only.
Yes it's a good time though check the weather. It's a desert area so can be warm during the day and cold at night. Also, this time of year is very popular and can be quite crowded. College students and younger school age are out of school so often go to these areas. You'll need to have reservations for just about any area there in order to ensure a place to stay. Enjoy!
You need to contact the rangers stations and ask. It depends on where you are camping and the conditions. We've been when there were restrictions on the type of fire, and we have been when there were no fires allowed at all. https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/big-bend-ranch

No.
Hiking. Camping. There is a bunkhouse that would be fun for boys to stay.
On river rd there are parking areas for rvs. No.hook ups though. Very small pop ups and the like may make it inside the park but it won't be easy. Big rvs and motorhomes wont make it inside the park. Those would have to stay a long river rd
I don't know but TPWD schedules hunting; check the web page
I believe on some. Not on all. Check out Closed Canyon Trail. I know that is one.
Chisos Basin campground would be too small for an RVtrailer
