Ever wondered what was Oregon's first state park? You might think it was somewhere on the coast or in the Cascades but, nope it was right here at Sarah Helmick! The park was created after the Helmick family donated land along the Little Luckiamute River in 1922. This day use park is beautiful and has picnic areas, trails, and is never crowded. I highly recommend visiting.

Nice little day park. On Luckiamute River. Well kept. Super clean restrooms. Lots of shade areas.

Nice, quiet little park. Has area for a family gathering. There was a big family in the park at the time so really didn't get any pictures except for outside the park. Lots of places to just sit and eat a picnic lunch, or bring your food from a local restaurant in Monmouth.

This is a nice little park in Monmouth, OR. The drive there is beautiful, farms and fields, if you take the back roads. Be aware cyclists are riding these roads, especially on the weekends. Share the road please. The park is tucked away in a quiet area and surrounded by natural beauty. There is a park host here. Seems like the park is well maintained and grounds and restrooms are very clean and stocked. I would recommend coming here if you're going to want to spend a day using their grills and having a get together. What a great place for spending the day eating and playing lawn games. Seems like a good place to take a dip on a hot day too or to get some easy fishing in, if that interests you. Pet friendly park (leash required). There are some short trails, but don't expect to come here and get a hike in. All of the trails that lead to the water are VERY steep. There are some deep ditches and make shift steps that make it somewhat easier to get down, but I wouldn't recommend if your unsteady on your feet at all. The trail beside the host is the best to get to the water and a nice pebble beach. This is a great place for families and kids, even little toddlers. The trails are the perfect length for little legs, until you get to the drop offs. Keep an eye and close hand on the kiddos.

She was a generous lady who originally donated 5 acres of land to be the first state park.
Yes, there are two briquette grills available for use. They are located in areas that may already be reserved so may not be available.
