For scenic views, the upper canyon loop and Haynes Ridge trail are by far the best in the park!
What you're referring to might be the south cliffs of John Haynes ridge. It's easily viewed from the first bit of the upper south prong trail/parking (great views, and the fern cave is really cool). If you intend to go more than about a mile or two on any trail, try to start by 6 to 8 am - the canyon and ridge can get up to 110 to 120 by 2pm. The south prong area has a lot of cool gypsum-embedded cliffs along the river to explore Another possibility is the last dance hoodoo in the middle of the upper north prong trail - kinda hard to reach - similar suggestion on timing. Eagle point trail, starting from the north, is cool - there's a natural Bridge. Canyon rim trail is a great sunset or sunrise trail - pretty easy. John haynes ridge, starting from the north prong Spur, is extremely scenic and has great sunrise views. It's also pretty hard, due to the quick elevation change. The parking just south of wild horse is a great spot to look for very scenic sunsets, too.
Ridge trail on the mesa is the best but not near the lake.
