I went to Hammonasset recently after being out of state for nearly forty years. The drive was easy with little traffic, in Madison and Clinton, since the summer crowds have now departed. I went not to swim but rather to try out my new metal detector, and I was not disappointed. The parking lots were easily accessible with few cars parked in each. I parked at the North Beach and walked through an empty pavilion to access the beach. The temperature was mild. The wind blew a few knots. The water and waves crashed on shore and only a smattering of people roamed the near empty beach. It was a detector's dream environment. I scanned a couple hundred yards of beach, found some coins and discarded metal trash (which I removed, of course), soaked in the ambiance, had some pensive moments, and then departed a more relaxed and content human being. Thumbs up to metal detecting on this beach after Labor Day. No fees for in-state folks. Not sure about out-of-state parking fees.

I thought the camping area was great. The beach is very nice. I enjoyed it.

Hammonasset State Park is a gorgeous beach. Beatiful views of Long Island Sound. Minimal waves so great for those who enjoy floating, swimming, good for young kids. Bathhouse with outside showers and indoor restrooms and changing rooms. Well maintained when we were there.

Be sure to check out Meigs Point as well as the actual beaches. Meigs Point has some great views and when i was there lots of Monarch Butterflies. I'm not a summer beach person but this time of year is ideal for someone like me just looking to get some photos. Park Ranger I spoke to was very friendly and knowledgeable. And as a CT resident, the free admission can't be beat.

Nice that everyone has the same answer. (Shakes head). Just check website for CT State parks. Don't go by anything people say online. Most are uninformed or misinformed. And the fee is not charged for CT residents (The car you drive in with and park has to be CT REG). Surrounded by idiots. Bleck!
Thanks both of you....much appreciated
Entrance to the park is free if you have a CT license plate on your car
They are open, but they are limiting numbers on the beach. Camping is open to those who had reservations. Bathrooms are also now open.
And
Drumsontheweb.Com List throughout R country.
Yes hammonasset water is tested 3 times a week for water quality
The beach closes at 8pm and parking is free, it depends on when you go and if you are a CT resident it's free to access entrance to the park and beaches. There is camping at the state park as well.
Weekends- $22 for out of state before 4pm, After it's $7. Weekdays- $15 for out of state before 4 pm, $7 after. Via CT.gov
You can but you have to keep it off the beach. Theres an area before the shore with benches where you can grill
Yes they do in several areas. But not always the cleanest
Beach on 4th of July was $ 20 range.
Yes they have charcoal grills around the park
Off season you can park in most lots, being aware of the size of your vehicle. In season, if you want to camp, call ahead.
Only in picnic areas during open season. Most be leashed. Allowed on beach during off season from i think Nov-April
Yes, it's a very popular place to fish. There are two jetties on either end of the beach that are popular fishing areas
Dogs are allowed on the beach on a leash and in control. They ate allowed in the campground between Nov 1 and April 1 only..check website for most accurate rules and regulations
I'm unsure... I would just ask when I visit the next time.
Unfortunately not. You can see the seasons when you try to book a camp site. It's usually April through October or thereabouts. In the off season the camp site is cleared out. Yoy would book your camp site for your desired stay then move your camper at the conclusion of your stay. If you are seeking a seasonal campsite with the option to park your RV over winter I suggest looking at Normandy Farms Campground in Foxborough, MA. There is no ocean but its an easy day trip to Cape Cod and there are many amenities onsite. There are likely others; this one I happen to be familiar with and it consistently receives very high ratings. On Cape Cod Massachusetts you can try Nickerson State Park. You're not on the ocean but very close to it and many swim options on site. They are unlikely to allow over winter camper parking though.
October there are no fees
You can stay after the closing time with a fishing permit or by camping there. The closing time is posted at the park after you pass the entrance. The latest it's open is 8:30 around the summer solstice. Now in August it's back to 8:00 already.
It's about $20 a night
Showers yes. No money needed.
a
U definitely need to reserve the large shelters. Not sure about the other ones
The Internet says it’s open from 830 to 4. So I don’t know if you park on the outside of the gates and walk in if that’s acceptable or not.
Yes u can
I believe they are allowed on the beach until the end of March.
No damage done. I go to Hamm. 4-6 times a week!! I love living close to Hammonasset 👍🙏🥰
I believe the Grand pavilion was taken down in 1967.
Loop: Sites O17-28, N18-21 This is my spot for Tent I was just wondering if we have electricity there and our tent spot
And I believe if it's not that certain time of year, if you see people with dogs, I believe they're waking in from town to walk around on the sidewalks along the campground and beach access
No dogs. Bicycling riding yes. There is camping at the beach
Yes
There is an amphitheater. Look on the east side of the campground map
Officially no. If you park somewhere and walk I've done the same thing and never had a problem. If you're staying there you can do as you please. I've taken a Uber to the free parking Area and walked the walking path in. Its beautiful at night. Good luck.
Always busy but plenty of room for everyone, massive beach!
Yes, there's a separate bus lot on west beach.
Parking fee is $22 on weekends/holidays and $15 on weekdays for non-residents (or $7 if it's after 4pm). Except when it's off-season, when you can drive right on in. Here's a handy page too in case it changes. https://portal.ct.gov/DEEP/State-Parks/Parking-and-Camping-Fees---CT-State-Parks-and-Forests
No. They closed them Columbus Day weekend
No, it has been closed this seaosn
First right round about all the way to parking A ,plenty of picnics area
It's either 8am or 830
there are places where the picnic tables comes with grill too, try west beach, plenty picnic areas with grills. you can always bring your own grill, just to make sure, especially during the busy times/weekend
Yes. There's an entrance fee for in state vehicles too. There is also a limit to vehicles allowed, so you might want to get there early.
Good, lots of places to cook out
We were there 3 days ago with no problems. Also from MA, $15 non residents parking fee
I would run the question through CT DEEP. https://portal.ct.gov/DEEP/Outdoor-Recreation/Outdoor-Recreation
Not until 8 July 2020
Unfortunately no, there are no basketball courts at Hammonassett. I believe the nearest court is at the Surf Club Park in Madison. It's open to the public but there is an entrance fee and parking may be difficult.
No camping isnt open yet i went Tuesday
Plenty of room to spread out
Not yet that I could see
Free
Camping Party The campsite fee covers six (6) persons, including children. However, a camp registrant may occupy a campsite with all his/her children under 18 years old for the basic campsite fee regardless of the total number of family members. For more info check here: https://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.asp?a=2716&q=325036&deepNav_GID=1621
That is for people who have disability and need there electronic devices charged.
After Labor Day the park and Beach do not charge anyone but of course none of the facilities are open and there are no lifeguards. The beach is still only accessible from 9 a.m. until dusk
It's free with a Connecticut car
The park closes at dusk.
As far as I know there's no nude beach & I've been camping there for years & go to the beach alot but I honestly can't answer that . Let me know where it is tho :)
I was there yesterday. And have camped there many times. All the campsites that are tent campsites are basically very shaded. This sites are either camper sites which are free of trees or tent sites. They don't let you put a camper on a tent site or a tent on a camper site so if you request a tent site it will be shaded. I've never had any problem with any of the tent sites they're sizable and flat
1o pm
I would advice to call them directly or check out their website for that type of thing. Their website had all the things you can and can't do as well
Yes you need a fishing licence and it has to be a conn one
You need a licence and have to follow CT regulations
No they go by CT license plate.
Yes before you get to the beach shore there's actually an area with picnic tables and Grills you just bring your own charcoal and food
It varies from $20 2 $35 per night depending on location, electricity etc. There is a website reserve America were you could check and see which locations are available at Hammonasset Beach State Park as well as reserve a spot.
Depends on the tide. There is a sandbar in the water.
Just left there and there's lots and lots of parking
Free if you're a CT resident with a CT plate.
They open at 8 a.m. and close at sunset. If you're going on the 4th I would recommend going early. If the park fills up they will not allow more people in.
They also have tons of ice cream novelty snacks.
Across from Meigs Point is a snack shack. It's also a great place to walk, sit, play, and much more.
On weekdays, it's $15, and then $7 after 4 P.M. On weekends and holidays, it's $22, then $7 after 4 P.M. That's what their website says.
Yes open on Sunday and every day of the week. Supposed to be a beautiful weekend. I recommend going early. If the park is full they don't allow more visitors in.
, they can't stay overnight in the campgrounds but I believe you can have visitors and stuff during the day I would check at the ranger station and call but I know overnights you cannot have pets
No they aren't far at all but you couldn't do both at the same time if you meant cooking and watching the kids.
Not sure but I imagine they have a website or check the CT website
You just need to make sure to bring charcoal. Or your own grill. The sites have the classic grates and grill setup
You can't have a fire on the beach and the park closes at dusk.
Closes @ sunset.
I think so, but you should check here: https://hammonasset.org/about-the-park/
They won't charge until memorial day Free for CT resident
I have seen Kite surfing, but I don't know where they are parking to get access to the water.
"Fires are allowed if off the ground. Fire pits are not provided but the Camp Store does rent them and sell wood. Dumping stations are available for units that are self-contained." https://hammonasset.org/about-the-park/
Remember that any car with a Connecticut license plate gets in for free. And in the offseason, like now, there's no charge for anyone to get in. Just make sure you are out by Sunset because they lock the gates and they'll lock you in. Ask me how I know...
Yes all the public beaches unless otherwise posted
It's actually closes at 4:30pm right now. I guess it's for the season.
I think so I have seen others do it.
Yes
Only from Nov 1 to Apr 1 are dogs allowed on the beach and campground.
I believe they go to porto potties after October. Although sometime the handicapped bathrooms at the top of the stairs are open even when the others are closed (at the far west beach.) There are usually people there throughout the year bike riding and walking and dog walking. They also work on the place after the official season ends. I think the nature center may stay open after the "beach season" as well. It's a geat hangout for older folks after school starts up.
I believe so , but call to make sure.
Weekends and holidays $22 $7 after 4pm (everyday) $15 weekdays
Great trails for biking. There's one trail in front of park goes from Madison and north. Goes through hammonassett then a second trail from nature center runs close to beach but you can't see the ocean from the trail. Both are nice.
We didn't pay. If u are a CT resident you don't pay.
they used to be free after 4:00 pm now they changed it to 6:30 for out of state after 4 its like 7.00 or something
I don't think it'll be a problem going there at 6 a.m.
Very good question... I would say not... About 90% sure... Call the office.. never seen a pet there.... I personally think that is a great idea.. because the people train these things to emulate the trash that they are 🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋 Some thing just saud my report was incorrect.. i assumed that to be true.. wait untill you stumble onto dog fecis ticks and fleas for the young rascal.. call the office.. and then the health department.. good luck.. live hammo
Hi Nancy... Ifyou live in state and your car has a Ct registration... Then you pay nothimg at the gate and parking is freeeee..
Flounder cunners blackfish stripped bass and unfortunately searobins... Etc.. fishing is better at meigs point...😀😎
Showers in campground
As a sailor in the area... There can be waves... Mostly choppy not swells.. always be aware of riptides... If you get caught.. swim to your right or left.. don't pannic.. you are o.k.. you will break free then swim in... Good advice pass it on.. hammo should not be a problem.. i teach sailboating and sailing.. hammo very cool
There is no parking fees in the park..... But if you are out of state you will pay at the gate big time... Maybe 21 for the day... Instate it is all free.. enjoy this paradise.. p.s. no dogs on the beach...
There is no admission fees and no parking fee for CT registration vehicles
yes
If you get caught you get kicked NQA. Saw it happen last sesson.
I bet about 75 ish.. my pool here is 85.. i stay at the Clinton motel.. very close.. the pool is 20+40.. awesome.. i know because i am there pool tech.. tell them i sent you.. have fun
Not to the beach and not propane. They have grills at the picnic areas for charcoal or wood.
You are free... It was part of your registration.. injoy the park..🏝️🏖️😎😀
Call the office.. 21$ or free i assume
No.. it is usually 7 till sunset.. lifeguards is not a consideration.. call the office.. sunset will a consideration.. i love hammo have fun
The Park does not do the fireworks. You would have to check surrounding towns, or the WTNH website.
The water is unusually warmer somewhere in the range of 70-73°
If you are a CT resident and have a valid car registration.. then that car is able to access all CT parks.. you paid for that right in your registration fee.. Enjoy Hammo best state park in the North East. I guarantee that.. two thumbs up..🏝️🏖️😀😎
I'm guessing from the camp entrance to Megs point approx 2.5 miles if that. It's not far but beautiful and now paved :)
I was just there and you can use a generator but you have to have it off by 10:00 PM My neighbor who had electric in his handicap site was not so happy about it but I checked with the office. So hopefully you won't end up close to a cranky old man when it's almost 100° and you want to run your ac for a bit.
No WiFi available
Yes. But not a blow up one. They don't allow inflatables.
Also the connecticut river do excursions.
There is a car-top boat launch at the far south parking area past the last pavillion. Could be rough paddling depending on the conditions, which are quite changeable.
Yes they are
I've seen several people use the outlets on the restrooms to charge their phones, cameras or make coffee. Beach road has power as well as two handicap spots in the park Not sure on tents but I also believe two are allowed.
I paid $3.50 for a bag of ice this past weekend at the camp store.
Yes they are.
No grillimg at the beach but if you get there early you can get one close to the beach
Handicap parking is right on beach right next to bath house.
Yes, and it's a nice place to Camp, by the beach. RV spots, tent, they even have cabins you can rent.
Yes enjoy. Can even take your doh
Probably have to the park ,fish an gaming
I am pretty sure you cannot, but maybe after labor day
I dont believe so.
I looked it up myself. Nov 1 - April 1 dogs are allowed on the beach. Otherwise, only on the walking trails.
I was there last week. It was open then. There was an advisory on Friday for some sort of algae, but beaches were open on Saturday.
Yes you can. When we were their, it was not crowded, so you have plenty of space.
I'm sorry I cannot answer yo that, I just described from my point of view what I think about this place. When planning to visit a state park I used to check the information provided at the ct gov website in this case the quality of the water, I use to checking this and I have noticed the changes of the information on the status of beaches and some swim areas. Some people prefer to check the information provided by the health department. At this moment looks like is closed .
