Yes hammonasset water is tested 3 times a week for water quality
Yes you can definitely go swimming. The water is quite pleasant. They typically have a life guard on duty every several hundred feet along the swim area. It is best to swim in the designated area. Also there is a flag system to show when it is safe to swim. If you look near the entrances to the beach from the parking lots you can spot a sign that explains although it is pretty self explanatory. Green means it is safe, red means no swimming and yellow means warning.
Yes, been in the water for 2 weeks now
Whereas the Rocky Neck state beach was closed due to poor water conditions, Hammonasset remained open. Larger open water and fewer towns flood spilling over, I assume. Nice nearby beach, but pebbles and crushed shells warrant wearing sandals, etc. Very pretty at sunset!
Oh yes..Life guards on duty..
Yes. But, be careful.
Yes it is, but like any body of water be mindful of your surroundings and keep an eye on the tides and the people in your party especially kids. Some jellyfish (mostly in August) but no undertows that I'm aware of. It's the sound so it doesn't get rough, I love it there!!
I saw people swimming out in the sound. Looks refreshing.
For the most part yes only bad part when we were there was I got stung by a jellyfish otherwise it was perfect
A guard is always there but you also should be very careful
