Off season you can park in most lots, being aware of the size of your vehicle. In season, if you want to camp, call ahead.
You have to call to make sure the camping bit is open. They don't allow camping off season.

West Beach has a new lot that accommodates busses. Or, drive past that lot and you have several dirt lots. I would not recommend using east Beach due to the small parking lot. Meigs point has a large dirt lot. Weekends in the summer can get crowded there.
Off season you can go in for free and hang by the beach all day in your car in your camper or your bus. During season you have to pay to hang out spend the day. To go into the campground, you have to reserve ahead of time as it gets full quickly. Nice place to explore and relax!
