Not much shade overall. Great sunset views and those of the Ojai valley.

Amazing place! The drive is fantastic. Tons of curvy roads, really fun if you have a nice car or motorcycle

It was well maintained. Beautiful spots to camp. The only thing is some sites you have to hike up to camp. We had a great time, are planning to go again.
Alen Smit
Super cool. The trip was really super cool, because we had fun, we eat sausages, my dog was so happy and excited to travel though the forest. Very beautiful by the way, fresh air - breath fully. I enjoyed the whole trip.

Not sure I'd probably Google that or call the main office
You'll have to call the Ranger District that administrators your part of the National Forest. I think yours is the Ojai Ranger District. If not, they can help you figure it out...
You'll be fine. It rained a little but no snow😊
Yes motorcycle folks pay $18 per night
I am going to find out ,in a few days...going up camping in Davy Brown Campground in Happy Canyon...in the lower areas of Los Padres Natl.forest are no snow at all
I agree
Hello, yes, you can sleep in your car. You don't have to have a tent. You can stay in developed car campgrounds for $20-$35/night or you can disperse camp. For disperse camping, you do need to contact one of the ranger stations for areas where disperse camping is allowed. For the Big Sur area, call the Big Sur Visitor Center. It is open this weekend, 831-667-2315 or you can call the Santa Barbara District office in the southern Los Padres at 805-967-3481 X 0, otherwise, call the ranger stations on Monday when they reopen at 8:00am.
Depends where you want to go. Los Padres is huge. Many paved roads go through and you will be fine on them. If you are going somewhere more remote on forest roads you may want to have a truck or 4x4.
Actually you can camp all over the LP, it just depends on what part of the forest you're on. The Los Padres stretches from Santa Barbara north to the Monterey Bay. If you would like more info feel free to message me. Hope this helps. The "local guide" doesnt seem to be much help...
There are many different species of trees throughout the Los Padres National Forest. It depends on what area of the forest you are referring to. In the northern section of the forest, there are Coastal Redwoods, Alder Cottonwood California Bay Laurel California Buckeye California Walnut Madrone Maple (Bigleaf Maple) Sycamore Toyon Willow Coast Live Oak Interior Live Oak Canyon Live Oak California Black Oak Blue Oak Valley (White) Oak Tan Bark Oak Bishop Pine Coulter Pine Gray Pine Jeffrey Pine Knobcone Pine Monterey Pine Ponderosa Pine Sugar Pine Douglas-fir Santa Lucia Fir Gowen Cyrpess Monterey Cypress Sargent Cypress Incense Cedar Redwood Torrey Pine Eucalyptus
Thanks for answering!!! Another question, where is the entrance, today I went and had to go back because I couldn't find it .....
By boat
Free at most locations
Yes..thank you very much...im also wondering who to contact to pay the 86.00 for a year pass on Quetchan Indian reservation in Arizona...have any ideas?
What area of the Los Padres National Forest are you thinking about visiting? Big Sur? Santa Barbara? There ae beautiful hotels in Pismo Beach that overlook the ocean. Pismo is not near the Forest, but it is one of the places that does have hotels overlooking the ocean. There are very nice hotels in Big Sur too. They are in the Redwoods, near the Big Sur River. Near the coast, but no ocean views. I recommend any hotel in Pismo Beach or Shell Beach, CA...in the Central Coast. Avila Beach is also a very nice place to talk a walk at the end of the day. Also in the Central Coast near San Luis Obispo. Morro Bay also has motels/hotels near the beach and some with ocean views. Cayucos is also a nice area and Cambria and San Simeon. There are small motels along the Big Sur Coast also in Gorda and Lucia. I'm sorry, but I don't have any names for you, but if you look these places up, you'll find plenty. Santa Barbara of course has hotels overlooking the ocean, but very expensive. Ventura, CA too.
No hunting grounds my dude just playing awesomeness and fun
HI Jess, it's probably too cold to go swimming this time of year. I'd wait about another month or two or early summer before it gets too hot. We do not have campgrounds right on the water. We do not have any lakes. There is camping near the Santa Ynez River in the Santa Ynez Valley north of Santa Barbara. The campgrounds are nice and near the River. Paradise Campground, Los Prietos and Upper Oso. I think Los Prietos is the nicest. $30/night. You can make a reservation: www.recreation.gov. You can drive on Paradise Road back to Red Rock which is a big deep pool that you can swim in. I think you'd like that. The only other campground near water is Arroyo Seco up in the Monterey Ranger District. There is a river there that you can swim in. This campground is near King City. It's pretty this time of year, but very hot in the summer. I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you need more information. Jennifer (805) 925-9538 X 0
What part of the Los Padres are you going to? For the day? Camping? Are you referring to drinking water or water to swim in? Most of our campgrounds do not have water. Some do. I work for Los Padres NF. If you'd like more information, please call tomorrow between 8-430. (805) 968-6640. I'm leaving work now, but can help you in the morning.
Hello. I work for Los Padres National Forest. There is snow on the Mt. Pinos Ranger District in Frazier Park off of the I-5 Freeway. There was quite a bit of snow several weeks ago on top of Mt. Pinos. A lot of it has probably melted, but it does snow in December through March and you can go sledding or snow shoeing. Some people cross country ski. For more information, call the ranger station at (661) 245-3731 X 0. There isn't any snow anywhere else on the Los Padres. The elevation is too low. The elevation up at Mt. Pinos is 8,000 feet, so be sure to dress warmly. Sometimes you need chains on your car.
Mostly deer and raccoons
Nope, not for any of the 3 carriers we had.
Nothing Ai is free
Hello, I work for Los Padres National Forest and currently target shooting is prohibited. It is prohibited through January, 2020. There is nowhere on the Forest to legally target shoot at this time. You cannot get a permit to target shoot. There is a $5,000 fine if you are found target shooting on the Forest. You are allowed to hunt. Please visit our website for more information about the current target shooting prohibition. https://www.fs.usda.gov and then go to the "Alerts" section for the prohibition information. Let me know if I can help you further. You can also contact our office at (805) 968-6640.
Hello, I work for Los Padres National Forest. You will need to contact the ranger station that is located in the area where you are interested in gold panning. They will be able to answer your question. What area are you interested in? Near Frazier Park? Ojai, Santa Barbara (Santa Ynez Valley), Santa Maria, Big Sur or Arroyo Seco area? Let me know and I can assist you further. You can also give me a call at (805) 968-6640. --Jennifer
Hello, we have many campgrounds throughout the Los Padres National Forest. As suggested by Greg, go to our website: www.fs.usda.gov/lpnf and then go to recreation, campground camping and then the camping is listed under "ranger districts" call the ranger district for the area that you would like to camp in and district staff can help you further with finding a campground. We have campgrounds all way from near Los Angeles on the I5 Freeway in Frazier Park through Santa Barbara up to Big Sur. Most are $20-$35. It's too late to make a reservation, but you may be able to find a first-come, first-serve site. You can call me tomorrow at the headquarters office if you want at 805-968-6640. --Jennifer
Hello, I work for Los Padres National Forest. What part of the Forest are you interested in? We have beaches up in the Big Sur area, Sand Dollar Beaach and Pfeiffer Beach. Both are located off of Hwy 1. $10/day use fee. Our headquarters office is here in Santa Barbara. There are beautiful beaches here, but they are not in the Los Padres NF. They are CA State Parks. El Capitan, Refugio, Carpinteria State Beaches. There are really nice beaches up in the San Luis Obispo area too and Pismo Beach. Let me know if I can help you further. State Parks are $10/day.
Hello Pedro, There is snow on the Mt. Pinos Ranger District. Contact the ranger station at (661) 245-3731 X 0. The station is open Mon-Fri from 8-4:30.
Hello, I don't understand your question. Are you asking about a trail or campground or road in the Los Padres National Forest? Jennifer Los Padres National Forest
No you need to go up to northern California for redwoods. Klamath California is full of them.
I'm not sure, but I would pay what ever it cost to spend time there. The fire couldn't even destroy the beauty
I think the store before I u coming up...sells them...The store is on your left hand side
Hi. Take 101, if you are coming from the Los Angeles area to the north you get off Storke Rd on the right. That road takes you to Goleta Ca. There is Los Padres Nacional Forest.
Try River near Santa Barbara, you really need to know the areas where you want to 🎏
A permit maybe required. Contact USFS Los Padres
Yes depends where you camp mount Abel is nice
Highway 154 Chumash Indian Reservation Lakeside RV sites within a few miles of Los Padres national forest
Depending on where you go you're able to shoot real guns in most spots. A pellet gun is not considered a "firearm" because is has no gun powder to be ignited and used to propel the bullet. A pellet gun is able to be shot all thru the Los Padres, as long as you aren't shooting towards a other person or campsite! Hope this Helps! Camping is super fun and most places allow OHV (off highway vehicles) so dirt biking is super fun in Los Padres national forest!
Google the Los Padres web site. It has a list of all the current closures. If ypu dont see what you are looking for, you can use one of the contact numbers for the district and call their desk clerk to find out. Also, most of the Los Padres opens all gates in early may.
Don't know from personal experience, but Google says highs of 75 and lows of 48 for May.
Yes, there are a few campgrounds. Make sure you have a spark arrestor. I recommend chuchupate off of Lockwood Valley Road in Frazier Park
