My wife and I visited during the comfortable spring months. Definitely praying your bug spray during more hot and humid summer months. Hiking is easy as the paths are completely flat. Boots or hiking shoes are a must when the spring and summer rains arrive as flooding is common. We hiked a number of trails on both the east and west sections of the park. If you want a true swamp feel you definitely need to hike the east end of the park.

Great place to visit for all ages! Love the wolves!

Very nice place to be

You can go to the rangers station and get a dispersed camping permit
In Francis Marion National Forest. There is camping for RVs. Best place for RVs would be Buck Hall. Honey hill is not bad. But not as many hook ups for RVs. And Halfway creek is totally Primitive.
No free and BEAUTIFUL lots of Wildlife. If you go to Bonneau Ferry it is free also it's part of Francis Marion. I have some old homes there and lots of Wild Hogs Deer and turkeys.
If you're in SC the Palmetto Trail is s great beginner trail. You may want to plan a day hike, then an overnighter. Also, try your best to follow the "Leave No Trace" policies to help preserve the land for the future. Check out https://palmettoconservation.org/passage/swamp-fox-passage/
Deer season starts tomorrow, but only on private property... If you hear guns going off in the Francis Marion it will likely be R. Plunkett hunting illegally
Yes as long as it's on the ground
Yes. You can camp anywhere you'd like. You have to inform the ranger station of your location in case of emergency.
You hike on the trails but you have to go to a designated camp site in that area would be sea wee camp site
Are hiking trails kid friendly
Ask at the ranger station on steed creek about hunting laws and regulations but i think your answer is yes all of the above. best hunting camp is elmwood off of highway 45
The rules are posted at Trail head kiosk. No excuses. Squatters. And rules are rules. Just need to enforce them or don't post them.
Yes
Not certain about a shotgun, you may have to contact a ranger for its transportation. But you are allowed to carry a licensed concealed weapon for protection while in Francis Marion.
Yes, it's open 24/7, unless extreme weather, fire, etc. This website has PDF copies of maps you can use. Enjoy and Leave no Trace! https://palmettoconservation.org/passage/swamp-fox-passage/
Yes
Honey hill
I am sure if you call them, they can tell what is open and available this time of year.
No.
Only at Wamba Cycle trail . Motorized vehicles not allowed on any portion of the Palmetto Trail . Only Hiking and Mountain Biking.
Drinking water? I wouldn't do it. Too much molds , fungi and mildew in the water. This is the low country. Wrong time of year.
X2 for Bob's response. Although I doubt you would get permission to remove vegetation for this pourpose. You should also be familiar with the seasonal land use for any given section if the forest that you intend to ride on as this land is also used for hunting.
No but paddlers can access
Unfortunately some people don't have a permanent residence so they will stay at these campsites. By law they are not supposed to stay at one for anymore then two weeks at one time. Then they must leave and stay someplace else but they can come right back and stay for another two weeks. So i can see how it would look like they are living there.
Spotlighting at night is illegal with a fine if $1200 and/or 30 days in jail with your guns confiscated plus what ever you killed
I Primitive camp at Halfway Creek . I go back North on the Swamp Fox trail to the Swamp Fox trail head it's a little over 6.2 miles. So out and back a little over 12 miles. It's a nice scenic trail ride. Best to do it in the fall and winter.
