If you're in SC the Palmetto Trail is s great beginner trail. You may want to plan a day hike, then an overnighter. Also, try your best to follow the "Leave No Trace" policies to help preserve the land for the future. Check out https://palmettoconservation.org/passage/swamp-fox-passage/

Look up the Palmetto Trail, you can start at the coast and work your way inland for miles through the Francis Marion forest. The trail has primative campsites that need no permits and some of those have old style water pump wells.
