Best free camping spots in NY. Not much wildlife though.

Love this gem although the map is very hard to read if you are not from the area. It also would be helpful if they had a placement on the map that says you are here on the boards at each spot. So you can clearly see what is nearby. The maps are so small and not from the area makes it very different to explore as much as possible. On a 1/2 day trip due to commute to getting to the area and leaving before sundown to return home . Small family went for the fishing ponds found 3. Will have to return another time to explore more. I was disappointed that the people before us left all there trash because it began to rain, we collected it all.As always come prepared bring a trash bag with you fishing. Please do not liter. It is nice to just wander the roads. It is difficult to notice what is the forest and as there are random homes throughout the area. Well worth the visit will return caught several bass and returned to pond.

None that I know of, but the folks at the ranger station are super friendly and will have the answer!

No
There's also some unmarked sites that are free around Foster's pond. If you park at the end of Chicken Coop Rd. on Potomac there's a couple sites there, and then farther back by the pond itself. Small 1/4mi hike maybe, first come first served ...
Fox, raccoon, deer, are pretty common all over the forest. Bear less so
Blueberry patch camp is open but not the bathrooms I'm not sure about horseback camp
Most areas in Hector grazing you are allowed to hunt and there is no fees. Just be careful for posted property.
Yes some sites are for tents only others are campers like on the blueberry patch rd
