Local only.
I was there birding, but agree with above answer.
Local firewood yes, but you're not suppose to transport fire wood from different regions because of the emerald ash borer beetle because they can kill all the ash trees.
you can either use Kiln dried firewood or firewood purchased within 50 miles, not 60 as the other person mentioned. As was mentioned this was to limit the spread of the invasive Emrald Ash Borer Beatles. Burning of pressure treated lumber is discouraged because of the chemicals given off.
Jeremy, they would have to be really huge logs to equal a cord, also $5 a cord is not realistic price. That being said I believe wood from within 60 miles is acceptable.
Tyler is absolutely right. Your best bet is to purchase local firewood at any number of local property owners. There are several in the Newfield, searsburg, Ithaca, Enfield areas. Average cost is approximately $5 a cord (5-6 decent sized logs) also if you have trouble locating a private wood sellar. Wegmans grocery in Ithaca as well as fastrac gas station sell treated wood that is certified to burn in any local forest. It usually cost around $7-$10 per cord for those. Remember if you get caught (the NYS DEC is rampantly patrolling this forest) the fine can be upwards of several hundred dollars. Definitely not worth the hassle or cost of purchasing local or treated firewood. Keep your receipt if you buy it at a store. please make sure to take your trash back out with you as this is pristine woodlands and a we would like to keep it that way. Also recommend insect repellent. Not so much for mosquito bites but for tick bites. Lyme disease is present.
