What an amazing visit! The weather was perfect and all of the animals were out on display. The majority of the bird exhibits were closed due to bird flu concerns but it detract from the overall visit.
I love how accessible the zoo is, easy access for all ages and abilities. There was some great animal experiences that the zookeepers did, learned a lot about rhinos.
I will for sure come back again, and not wait so long between visits.

As a homeschooling mom of two having a membership to woodland park zoo is vital. We get to learn so much about animals, our environment and what we can do to make our world a better place for not only animals but us as well. We get to communicate with so many zoo keepers and get first hand information about all of the animals and what they’re up to. We have made countless memories at the zoo that mean so much to me as well as my children. I have captured so many of the highly sought after animal photos because we are members and visit often so I learn each animals routine and where their favorite spots/things to play with are in their enclosures. My family could spend all day in this area of Seattle. We enjoy starting off at woodland park zoo then eating lunch (I pack a picnic) in the woodland park zoo rose garden (which also has a music/sensory garden area for the kids) then we will hit up west woodland park playground and as a bonus sometimes on a hot summer day we will hit up Al A mode pies right there on the corner next to the park for some pie and ice cream (why not support a small local business when you can).
When you’re a zoo member you get so many perks like discounted parking, free animal feeding encounters and free carousel rides as well as zoo store discounts and food discounts. We have brought so many of our friends in for free to the zoo with my family passport membership. I have been a member for 4 years going on 5 and there is no way I could go without a membership to Woodland Park Zoo.
***As of 5/2/22*** The carousel is back open! Also, My favorite butterfly garden at the zoo, Molbaks butterfly garden is scheduled to open MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!
In all, I highly recommend Woodland park zoo to everyone young and old. It’s a great place for a quiet stroll on a weekday and a busy weekend day filled with friends and family.

Huge place. Many different animals and birds and creatures to gaze at. Very educational and informative. Great place to walk and explore. Great shops. souvenirs priced a bit high but worth checking out. Lots of various things to interact with. You can also rent scooters if you have hard time walking. Wished I would of rented one for me, but gave me a good workout. There's so much to learn and see.. Would go back and recommend.

We went to see Zoo Lanterns. What a beautiful array of animal lanterns. From birds to dinosaurs. They also had a fire pit, hot chocolate, pizza, burgers, beer, wine. It was a great experience. It seemed like it ended too fast. It looped around the whole main loop. It made you wonder where were the animals! If you get a chance to see these lanterns around Christmas time, go see them. The ticket price is over $30 a piece but worth it. It goes to a good cause!
We usually park at Woodland Park which is a park just down the street that has free parking. There is a trail from the parking lot that takes you righ to the zoo.
I was there late January and saw A LOT of animals who are on display out in the open. It took me between 1-2 hours to see them and walk around. I did wonder the same because of the cold and feel for them...but maybe because they have fur they can handle it better than us. I think in the spring is better but if you go now you will see alot of animals. Just use their map to guide you around. Loved this zoo and saw many families and kids when I went.
Adults - $20.95 and child $12.95. Or you can get the seattle city pass and the entry to the zoo and some of seattles top attractions will be included! I highly recommend it for its value! Our family had a blast!
I brought in a lunch of premade sandwhiches from the store as well as drinks and snacks. No one cared. Also. Yes, you can leave and come back. Just have to get your hand stamped first. Like at the fair. I was there for mother's day. Oh and the food prices are what you would expect at the zoo. Drinks is where they get ya.
I have a golden pheasant visiting me every day and I feed him peanuts. I have to shell them for the bird. So the bird picks at me when I try to walk away. It also makes clucking sounds. Why does he pick on me?
There is a sign posted warning that anybody trying to bring untrained uncertified pets claiming them as service animals will be penalized a minimum fine of $500. Only actual service animals that meet these requirements are allowed into the zoo.
They have wheelchairs, but only at limited gates in the past. (I'll try to learn more and update my answer. For now, calling to ask is probably a good idea!)
Normal hours. Expect it to be busy. If you don't want to pay Seahawks prices for food ($8.50 for kids hot dog and fried, $4 for a 12-16oz cup of soda) bring your own. They have water bottle filing stations throughout but pack a lunch, unless you don't mind the prices. My mum-in-law bought us a family annual pass so I can take my son.
Betty Ingram: You have to arrange with your son's teacher to volunteer to be a chaperone for the field trip. They then arrange the complimentary ticket. For example, my son's high school Zoology class needed 1 chaperone for every 6 students. The students had to pay $5 each, but the chaperones had free admission. The zoo would not be able to help you with those arrangements, even if you did reach someone by phone.
Does this zoo have complimentary check in? We fly out later on the day and have our suitcases to lug around til then. :/ ..would love to see the zoo before we leave

Just called and talked to Jessica in admissions and while they don't have lockers they so have each one for rent for a small fee. She said that many people that are in the same situation use this option. Be well and have a great time!
There is a petting zoo with goats and sheep. In the winter, the Northern Trail animals like the wolves, snowy owl, river otters and elk can be quite active. There are also lots of climate controlled indoor exhibits. It is a year round zoo and always entertaining.
A group of friends and I were thinking about going here with out our parents. I was wondering how old do you have to be to go with out adult supervision?
Yes!
Wheelchair (non-electric) $10.00
Electric Convenience Vehicle* $25.00
*(Must leave a $200 refundable deposit and valid driver's license; 18 years and older or 16 years with parent/guardian permission. 400-pound weight limit.)
Thank you so much for all of your very helpful answers! We have four kids (8,5,3,2) so we will plan on a whole day and a nap in the stroller. Also, thank you for the advice about bringing our own food! I’m sure that will save us a few bucks. Thank you again, you’ve helped me plan a wonderful trip for the kids ❤️
Actually there IS a komodo dragon on the map...but the zoo is large enough that you can skip that part....i didn't see the dragon but i was not looking for him/her.
Woodland park zoo can be visited using city pass
City pass costs 80$
You can visit five different places in seattle using the city pass
The places include space needle, chihuley garden, aquarium, cruise trip. It is a good deal
No, tickets do not need to be purchased in advance. You can purchase tix upon arrival. There are good signs telling you where to go and a zoo person hanging around answering questions.
You always have to pay..
I went this week and saw a ton of animals during the afternoon and was still there when they turned the lights on. It was the best visit yet.
Is there Raccoons there? Can you pet them? (Asking for a friend, love them, but safety and natural environment first).
Thomas Johnson | Dec 3, 2020
Weston Taylor | Dec 4, 2020
There is a raccoon animal ambassador, that stays with keepers and does not have an exhibit. Brought out primarily for behind the scenes and special events. There are wild raccoons that wander the grounds, but I do not suggest trying to interact with those.

They have tigers, a jaguar, lions, a snow lepard. No Panthers or cheetahs
Yeah it's going to be hit and miss as to when you're going to be able to see the baby. If it's raining or they're just not in the mood to come out of the barn you're out of luck I'm afraid. Here's some video. The baby is at like 7 minutes in https://youtu.be/1H6irAJCwNk
I believe that woodland park requires their employees to have a degree in amimal related fields ,if you have that i bet you could apply through their website. Otherwise i suggest volunteering. Id go in person and speak to them in the membership office about volunteering opportunities.
Check with your local family resource center....they may have some freebies! Also make sure you account for parking..i believe it's somewhere around $5.
They have a red panda but no racoons. The red panda is not the size of the pandas from china...much smaller. I rather see a regular panda....they are cuter.
It will be difficult if you do not have money, but I would like an adult to go with the children, so that they can see the animals in the zoo ... when I went I was beautiful with the lights, at night. Good luck ... 😊
Prices are listed here: https://www.zoo.org/visit. From now through April they're on Winter hours and rates, so $15 for adults, $10 for children, and $13 for seniors.
Membership for 1 person for a year is about 50$ every year I let it lapse before I renew & they send me email 10$ come back coupons. You also get 2 people in at half price every time. There are lots of ways to get discounts. If you are a caregiver you get in free with a disabled member who has id so 15 and up. You also don't pay for disabled parking. The membership always gives you the best price it usually pays for itself in 2 visits. Its 18$ or so in summer less in winter.
If you need to take the bus, metro has a convenient "plan your trip" section on the website where you just put in your starting address and your destination and it will tell you how to get there.

I was there a couple months ago. There was a guy taking pictures, is there a way to go to the website and order the pictures?
Travis Hoeft | Dec 4, 2018
Lisa Gaspar (Lisa GG) | Dec 5, 2018
If you have the card they gave you when they took the pictures, you can enter the number(s) on their photo website and it will bring it up so you can order it (them).
Yes but you must check in first. They will give you a special sticker to wear showing that you have an approved service dog.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Guests with service animals must check in at the following locations upon their arrival at the zoo.
West Entrance – Membership Office
South Entrance – Ticket Windows 3 or 4
Wow that is not a question i thought would be on here, haha. No idea. You mean like a major earthquake? This might be a good question to ask when you are visiting the zoo.
$14.95 for adults, $9.95 for children 3 years and older, and $6 for parking. There are seasonal changes of pricing l, but I am not aware of special pricing for locals.
As evident by the myriad of opinions chiming in, it is up you to your own personal preference. Some activities change availability throughout the year but there's always something something wonderful whenever you go. We love taking our little toddler this time of year but we are no stranger to the cold.
Be sure to double check hours of operation before going to be safe.
This is from their website :
Electric personal cart - $25.00 (Must leave a $200 refundable deposit and valid driver's license; 18 years and older or 16 years with parent/guardian permission. 400-pound weight limit.)
I don't see anything mentioned other than that for electric scooters. Hope this helps...
