Drove up Angeles Crest Highway. Fun drive for me, made my wife carsick. Should have been scenic but heavy overcast blocked the views. Mt Wilson observatory was interesting, but stocked in. The cafe was out of Chile and apple pie . The coffee was good and the had a nice selection of teas.

It was my first time ever going to this national forest, I didn’t know that this national forest existed. I went with a group of friends and we hiked on this trail call “Strawberry Peak”. It was really fun and challenging, but when we got to the top is was worth it. The view was really beautiful. I definitely enjoy my time there and hope to go back again and explore the rest of it.

Nice short hike. Park right by the bridge, I always display my adventure pass to avoid any parking ticket. Not exactly sure if it's needed here but better to be safe than sorry. Trail starts on the West side of the bridge. The trail has changed since the last heavy rains but as long as you follow the stream up. The pools have all been filled in so no more waist high pools to cross which is kind of a bummer. But can now be done without getting wet. The waterfall is flowing nicely right now (March 2022) but the main pool again is completely filled in with dirt. So bring a snack to enjoy at the falls now that there is room to hangout by the falls without having to be in the water. I watch people climb the ladder but its pretty sketchy. Use common sense and be careful if you decide to climb. In & out is only about 2 miles. Pack it out & leave no trace.

Fantastic park that not many know about and I kinda want to keep it that way. The drive up there is adventurous and once you get to the top it's serene. Definitely need to go there during the winter to catch the snow!
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
Yes will be open lots of water and whatch yoyr steps
Best time would be after it's been raining a couple days if your trying to camp. So the snow don't melt right away. Make sure you pack warm tho it can get real cold at night.
Call your local fire department
Depends on what the gov says.
Yes, it's not like a lake but there are ponds in the stream that are big enough to swim and float in
Absolutely!
$12/night on a first come first serve basis. Check out more details on recreation.gov and put Chilao campground
Yes u can, there are many camp ground s-chilao campground is one of my favorites
I recommend Switzer Falls. Just be careful with the narrow parts on the trail. It will lead you to a small but nice waterfall. Plenty of water.
$5 a day, or $30 for the annual pass. They can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Big 5, or any other sporting goods store.
No, ni cabins that i know of, the used to dome camp ground at Running Springd
Only in authorizing areas, you can find sings at the side of the roads, usually in those areas is a grill, a picnic table and water, very useful for anyone, enjoy your weekend, have a great time 👍😎
No hunting, go to Northern California
It’s not as if they are all over the place.Stay on the trail; it sure is safer.I’ve seen one but we heard it’s rattle first.Wear hiking boots it’s recommended.
Yes
Camping is allowed but you need to pay in advance. Check particularly the one you want for the latest results. You can call.
It is NOT a national park. It is a national monument. Buckhhorn campground has a 20' length restriction. There is a 2 week maximum stay throughout the area.. Any parked vehicle must show a pass fo the entire area. In addition to the camping nightly fees, any parked vehicles must display a pass. They're 40 per year or five dollars per day.
This is a very dangerous time for wilderness fires. When the Santa Anas are gone, fires are extinguished and there is more humidity in the air you can make a campfire at Monte Cristo campground which is not very frequented. For now, hiking is a great way to commune with nature and unwind ;-)
There are designated camp sights, check with the forestry service to see which are open. There is also a day fee, buy a day pass - also forestry service.
Ask Google or Alexa about the current weather conditions or future forecast. Look up weather history online to see trends.
Yes, there was lots of places we saw. We will be coming back for sure. We didn't have our camping gear or we would of camped it instead of hotels & motels.
You can stay there up to 14 days and I don't know about the campers I suppose you can bring a camper depending on if it fits or not
Fishing is allowed but need to get fishing license and contact them to make sure.
Yes most definantly also check with fish and game but i belive for hunting deer it is area d 11 http://www.mappery.com/map-of/Los-Angeles-County-Firearms-Closure-Area-Map here is a map
U need to get a d 11,d13,d15 zone tag for deer at department of fish and game archery season is sep07-sept29 and general is oct12-nov10
Always! This year the meteor showers are on August 12th starting at 10 pm. You might have a little trouble seeing them due to all the fires.
If you're talking about the parking pass, find a rangers station or mini market in the mountains. There's a rangers station at the mountain entrance on Azusa.
Plenty of room and forest around but like Chris said call and ask
Is not too much threes and they is small. Is clean, and nice, beautiful. Go some day and check, and is not far away.
If you're talking about devil's punch bowl I go hiking 247I have before usually a Los Angeles national forest is open 247 you might need an adventure pass
Yes, and you will see them if you leave food out. One weekend while camping on the East Fork, we had a night watch because there was a family of bears that kept coming down and stealing our food. We caught one bathing in the river nearby, as well. They're awesome animals! They're usually easy to scare off.
Yes, dogs are allowed (leashed) in sites and on trails in national forests.
there is but you have to go to wrightwood, or bigbear there is more
Do not know for sure BUT the water levels are so low right now I don't think you would have a good warer view. But if you go up the mountain they do have camp grounds with beautiful greenery that could be a nice place. In that case i would contact the camp grounds. Hope this helps 🤷♀️
There are some designated site, you can find them on line. there may be restrictions during fire and summer season.
But who's gonna stop you from going any time you want
Probably in ANF. Red frost is rare though, only above 4000' erection.
Of course there are specific places to camp
Depends on the site. Some have very small parking pads, some are larger that could perhaps accommodate a 30 footer. Best to check it out first.
I have not camped recently however when I was there a few weeks ago there was people camping, this was on mountain Baldy, and as far I know the camp sites are open.
The truth is, I don't know, but there is a bonberos station at La Redonda
Yes is open!
I believe it was closed, but things are changing so fast you should call the office.
Get the wilderness pass. It's cheap, supports the forest, and is awesome!
Sorry what do you mean?
CA Nat'l Forests are closed ATTM until Mon-14-Sep-2020 and at least some closures will get extended beyond that. There IS fishing here. Contact the ANF Ranger Station for details. You probably need a permit. The website is not always up-to-date, but provides some good long-term info.
The Angeles National Forest(ANF) is big. Areas can be closed for various reasons/conditions including weather and fire. There are two active fires("Ranch" and "Lake") within the ANF. Each has its own closed area. Air quality north of these fire areas can be very bad too and you should consider not going there even if open. The "Ranch Fire" appears to be mostly out but is still smoldering. Finding out what is closed in the ANF is difficult. Official information, online, is confusing. The authority ultimately rests with the Ranger Districts. It is best to CONTACT the Ranger's office and ask about what you want to do. The ANF is divided into 3 Ranger Districts . The 2 directly above L.A. are the "L.A. Gateway"(or "L.A. River"), and the "San Gabriel River" districts. The area, northwest of route 14 is combined with the north facing side as the "Santa Clara/Mojave Rivers Ranger District" fs.usda.gov/main/angeles/home Lately, I've been hiking the Mt. Baldy and Cucamonga areas.
Hi, I would like to know if the upset to the river is open anytime?
Depends on site and camp is that let you camp in cloused grounds just dont tack your car in camp
USFS says it's open Monday-Friday, so it should be open. I would get there extra early as it's a popular hike and parking fills up quickly.
Walk spots are first come first serve.. reservations spots opened up for use back in the end of May and are most likely already booked up.
Yea there are lots of spots, but alot of ppl go there now so sometimes there is alot of trash and annoying ppl.
Not technically open but if u park down the road u can hike to some good fishing! Little Rock
No chains needed. Up high where the snow was too much, the road was closed and no one went by , no matter what you drove
Yes you can fish there
Good question. Check your local weather station. Damn, I just pulled a boomer blunder. Lol What I'm thinking is the elevation should prevent snow most of the year. But hey, I'm over here in Pennsyltucky. I like to use the N.O.A.A. info. It's free to all Americans. Well oh, that is free until it's privatized by the current National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration leader Barry Myers; former CEO of AccuWeather . So if you ever get a chance to call your state senator tell them to block any legislation that is meant to privatize NOAA.
Yes, if you get stuck in the snow and signs say chains required, you can be cited by the CHP or local sheriff. If you have children with you you can be charged with child endangerment. I know it happened to our niece. Make sure during winter travel you have a supply of blankets, water and granola bars stored in the trunk. I know, it happened to me and I was stuck for three days. I was ready to eat the bark off of trees. We always think it will happen to the other guys. Drive carefully, remember ice on the road cannot be seen unil it is too late. It is the rock rule. A hot rock looks the same temperature as a cold one.
No
Switzer falls has an awesome creek that leads to waterfalls. There's like 3 or 4 of them. And Big Rock Creek also is awesome.
This place is available for camping ??
Not really much to catch but definitely big bear and Arrowhead should be good
Some of the place
Is not a park
If you want to camp overnight in a campsite, you have to make reservation. If you know the campground name, Google it. Example: "How do I make reservation at Lake Camp?". It'll lead you to the site. There are a lot of "day use only sites" and obviously, you cannot stay there overnight. I suggest you try day camp first and explore the area. There should be a ranger station nearby to ask questions. Good luck and happy camping!
Just pull over and enjoy the view
I would not advise you on it. Treat the water like third world country. Boil it. just play it safe. if you know your plants and roots, and what they can do. Then, on the side of caution you may want to or not
Wide variety of both. I would suggest visiting a hiking website such as All Trails, where you can see each of the trails, their difficulty and length
Placerita cyn trail It's easy and your dog will love it 😊
No, there are no free camping there. But there are free day use picnic areas.
And
Yes, just drive up Hwy 2 and on either side of the road you will see plenty of snow. If parking is allowed. You could park and inter tub down small slopes....
If you are willing to go towards wrightwood, yes there is plenty of snow
Yes, not as much as 25. But there is.
The correct way to ask is "Is there snow". There is some snow scattered in some places. It depends where you are.
I do not believe their is what you would call a "main entrance" because of the large size of the park. Many of the North bound major highways near the mountain range referenced, will take you into the forest. Have fun!
Not in the ANF but there are commercial cabins nearby. Do a search for cabins near the ANF. There is plenty of camping available though, in the forest.
To my understanding you're not able to fly drones in national parks it's a federal law because they are on federal grounds but you might want to check with the ranger station/visitor center.
Yes, but not all sometimes CHILAO has campgrounds that are open.
Which part are you asking about being a national monument?
Depends where you go. Bridge to Nowhere has water, but don't expect to do laps. You can find some waist high pools there.
The Bridge to Nowhere its a small little campsite with showers a lil cafe pool tables fidhing from your site its really nice
No, rangers won't let you. It is dangerous to the trees
A little bit in winter, none is spring or summer, maybe in fall
You can pull over and camp anywhere. No open flames.
Yes it did. They are thinking of rebuilding
5 five dollars a day
Im not sure about the whole Los Angeles National Forest but at Camp Colby. There is both showers in some cabins and some cabins don't have showers but there is community showers located centrally
There is not, now
Yes, the Sturtevant Falls & Trail Canyon Falls.... maybe more, don't know.
Is open everyday Also deer Hanting season is open.
Depends at winter very cold but at summer its great!!
No
No, there are not. If you'd like to see giant redwoods, then your best bet would be the Sequoia National Forest.
No. The closet lake is Elizabeth Lake and due to the drought it's to low. Hopefully, we get more rain this winter and it gets stocked for spring. Fingers crossed.
I believe you mean the Angeles National Forest. There's Pyramid Lake, Castaic Lake and Elizabeth Lake for sure. Technically Crystal Lake I suppose, but there's rarely much water in it.
