Get the wilderness pass. It's cheap, supports the forest, and is awesome!
Both other answers are true. There is boondocking and dispersed camping available and maybe 3-4 campgrounds with a fee. Google up Angeles National Forest USDA forest service campgrounds for info. and a list. Watch out for Rattlesnakes in the warmer weather.
