If you want to camp overnight in a campsite, you have to make reservation. If you know the campground name, Google it. Example: "How do I make reservation at Lake Camp?". It'll lead you to the site. There are a lot of "day use only sites" and obviously, you cannot stay there overnight. I suggest you try day camp first and explore the area. There should be a ranger station nearby to ask questions. Good luck and happy camping!
Campsites yes, you need to pay, but I'm not sure how or where. There is lots of free picnic areas. There is no cellphone reception, make sure to download off-line maps, or get a portable GPS.
