Awesome place. The falls were gorgeous and the trails were maybe the nicest I'd ever been on. Wide, easy to traverse for all age groups and the handicapped. My favorite part was that you can actually get in the river and enjoy the cool water.

Absolutely gorgeous. For all the hikers, and backpackers! Start at the lower falls early day (at open) take in the lower falls and it's beauty then take the 4.4 mile hike. It's trail rated "hard" and I'll admit, for someone who doesn't have much hiking experience just starting out and Ill admit am a little out of shape this was a tough one at times. But if you take your time you can make it. Once you finish this 5 mile hike (trust me it's more like 5 miles once you get off) you can either choose to go down one of viewing areas, don't. Just go to the bathroom refill on water and eat your lunch. Give your legs a break. When you rested up a Lil then check the viewing areas and enjoy the upper falls, then do the trail in reverse to get back to your car. When you finish, spend the rest of the day on the island in the lower falls. It's a great place to swim and relax. It's got alot of steep inclines and declines you feel like you trekked a mile and you did .5 haha but it was absolutely awesome! All of it! I'd do it again in a heartbeat and I'll be back to do it again.

Lived in MI for 29 years and finally made a trip back to see the falls. Absolutely gorgeous and appreciated it so much more than I could've imagined. Very clean, trails clearly marked. Have seen a lot of comments about the new bridge and I think it's great that people who previously couldn't kayak to the upper Falls have an opportunity to explore. The bridge in my opinion didn't take away from the beauty.

Beautiful root beer colored falls!! Nice park, had to park and walk to lower falls since gate was still locked due to snow. Campground 50amp hook up $31 night. Spotted bald eagles at lower falls!!

$11 a year for Michigan residents or $9 a day for out of state cars.
Cell towers can be "camouflaged" in order to not destroy the natural beauty around them. In addition, small cell towers can also be installed in such a way that they can be quite inconspicuous. There's a way for technology and nature to coexist!
Upper falls it's a 1/4 mile walk to and same back. 94 stair steps to the down to the viewing deck and then back up.
The campground is open all year too.
Newberry and Paris are the closest to the falls. I know Curtis has some rentals also and isn't too far away. I don't have any phone numbers for you though, sorry.
Check with Michigan State Parks. If drones are allowed, the usual drone rules apply. That would mean no drones over visitors.
It all depends on if you have a park pass on your plate. But most it should be anywhere between 13.00 to 15.00 per night.
It's absolutely free!!!and its pretty sweet!! Have fun!! On the 2nd half theirs a gift shop and food stuff in case you wanna check that out!!
This info is taken from a news article. I have not camped bc there. It is a 13-mile hike to the bc sites. The sites have bear poles, a fire pit, and a log for sitting as well as a wilderness privy... Water can be taken from nearby sources which has to be purified.
Yes, the campground is fully booked in the summer high season. You might be able to walk in at other times of the year
Not at the park that I know of. Walking trails not wide enough for a horse.
Yes. People have weddings all the time at the falls. And if your reception is small enough there is the camp 33 brewery and restaurant on site as well!
There are hotels in Newberry. Definitely go check out the Sault Ste. Marie, Pictured Rocks and the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum.
Less than 1 mile on a paved path and steps down to nice viewing area's.
It's about a half hour drive between the bear ranch and the waterfalls. We spent an afternoon at the falls.
No clue. It would be better to call.
I did not see any but I would call to check
Check the upper falls campground showers. The lower falls campground open the facilities May 14.
There are variety of choices, but as others have said please check online.
Elk deer Bobcats squirrels rabbits etc. Very nice low water Falls. Beautiful scenery
There was joking and row boats. The store was closed and, at the moment, no entrance fees. Social distancing was normal for today's time.
I believe so been a long time since I've been in winter but was on sled but like 15 yrs so rules may have changed
I definitely did not see one, perhaps there is, but honestly I do not know. Sorry!
Yes. It is beautiful in the winter with the ice particles dancing around!
$9 day pass $32 for the year
I would contact the rangers station to ask about riding atv's from campground to the trails
Go to midnrreservations should be around 30 bucks plus 11 for state park sticker
No... you've got a shot at some agates up at whitefish, but petoskey is far more prevalent around lake Michigan and huron
River mouth campgrounds are a good choice. The modern has electrical hookup but I like the peacefulness of the rustic site. Since it's the end of September, be aware of chilly temps at night.
The upper falls has one as well. They also have a resturant and brewery
1/2 mile to the upper falls. Lower falls are about 200 yards from the parking lot.
Fyi---- Just got a hold of them. They said to ask when you get there and there are parking spaces available; just can't be on the campsite. Which is totally fine with us. We just wanted to make sure we could all drive separately and meetup there. Ok, thank you. I will keep calling and will update this Q&A if I get an answer.
With Google Fi device, it was swapping between T-Mobile and Sprint. Connection "speed" was 2G and 3G. Perfect place to disconnect...
5 dollors a bundle i just came from up there on may 28th i had the best time of my life there state rv park was nice and clean the newer shower /bathrooms were nice showers could use heater but the water was nice and hot also there ya go lol
Yes
No beach, just multiple sightseeing spots along the river. Dogs are allowed on a leash
Hi yes they're open
They are accessible all year round
The River Mouth campground has a designated large area for group camping way in the back of the campground's.
Probably best to google the phone number for that park and asking them directly.
You forgot to pay your bill
Not sure but I believe there is a parking lot there
Literacy is a real problem. Tons of ignorance on why keeping on the trail is important. Guess they follow a policy of leaving a trace and not preserving for those that follow.
Yes and it's very nice!
If your question is, can you swim, i wss there a week ago, and there was children and adults in the river. NOT AVOVE THE FALLS! They were below the falls. I was jealous i didnt have my swim suit.
Yes. You can do it online and you do not need to call. A lot of the sites are not available for reservations but are simply first come first served.
Hello....I'm sure they have very large camp sites. Lot's of larger r.v.'s. Have fun! Been there many times!
Depends on your definition of bad. They are present.
As long as you have bug spray, the mosquitos were no worse than anywhere else in Michigan. (Went 6/14/18)
Yes. Remember you will need a permit for it.
There are Central bathrooms near most of the campsites at most of the campgrounds.
Well I would say yes. When we went they had loner chairs at the mouth of the path. Hard to notice. Here's the thing, I'm not sure if they always have them but I'm glad they did that day. Good luck and enjoy.
Tahqumenon Falls are located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. About 70 miles northwest of the of the Mackinac Bridge. Close to Lake Superior.
Its spelled Taquamenon and its an Ojibwa word that describes the amber color of the water which is stained with tannic acid from tree leaves. The falls are the color if dark beer. The poem is in Longfellow's poem Hiawatha.
The shuttle service is in the parking lots of the lower and upper falls. They have a time schedule that they do pick ups from each location. It is a 4 mile hike along the river .It takes 2.5 to 3 hours depending on what you want to stop and see. It's a very enjoyable hike. It is a one way hike.
I don't know the cost, but the board are just row boats. Seat about 4 people.
Lots of parking and I highly recommend it
Usually the first couple weeks of October is best but this year may be delayed a bit by the recent warm weather. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources gives regular updates of approximate peak color for each zone in the state.
There is a shuttle ride, but I didn't see a train.
Yes strollers wheelchairs even pets on leashes Two viewing areas that have several stairs, though,
