There are hotels in Newberry. Definitely go check out the Sault Ste. Marie, Pictured Rocks and the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum.
After seeing the falls, we drove to Munising and stayed at our favorite Sunset Motel, right on the bay on Lake Superior. Munising is our favorite city in the Upper Peninsula. You can take the Pictured Rocks cruise, drive to Miner's Castle and Miner's Falls, drive east to the 10 mile beach and Grand Marais, or drive west to Christmas, Michigan and Marquette. We often spent 3 days in Munising enjoying the surrounding attractions.
We were there recently and had difficulty finding local lodging that wasn't booked up. We ended up staying in Newberry. There were other motels available that did not have web sites in the local areas.
Local city is paradise, we have a place around an hour away. I do however know there is a state campground at the falls not sure if any of the nearest lodging has a website
It's about an hour from St Ignace. There are a few hotels in Newberry which is not far at all.
Pretty remote area but close to Lake Superior. North and West is Marquette. South is Mackinaw Island and Mackinaw Bridge., Petoskey, etc.
