Depends. If you don't have a special case usually online is still available. If you have any special case or issues of any sort usually in person. Even some simple address changes have become special case. I suggest you try on line first and only if the system tells you to come then make an appointment. Class A has been 100% in person and has stealthily contributed to the trucker shortage without attracting attention. That's a shame.

I believe there are some accomodations, but everyone need an appointment. Walk in are sometimes available but, there were no special allowances for elderly to get special treatment regarding walk-ins. You MUST by the way have proof of citizenship. Yes. Just holding an appointment for 90days or more, let's you drive with your out of state license, since it is something that we don't have any kind of control. Now, if the license is already expired, holding an appointment is not an extension of it, but it is proof that you're on top of your interest of obtaining a TX DL. And by being already experired, once your appointment comes up, dependind on the time frame of the expiration date of your DL and the appointment date, you might need to take a driving exam and/or test again. Texas DPS driving test is perform by a Texas State Trooper Officer.

If you go up there at 4:00am an wait till they open at 7 am. They will give you a free pass an set you up an appointment that day. The line fills up fast. I got mine back within a week. Be sure to bring all you paper work

If you want urgent appointment then they give walk in appointments daily ( 10 or more ) they start that at 6:30 am, you should have all documents and application filled ready. People start in queue as early as 3 to 4 am.

The online appointments are available from June only so as mentioned by Christina, you need to be there outside from 4:30 AM and it is really freezing so take Warm clothes, Chair etc.. I just did this a few weeks ago, you will need a Class C appointment and make sure that you have proof of residence and proof of the teenage safety course that can be completed online.

You need your old i.d. and birth certificate. Or if it's your first time to apply or it's been expired for a long time (2 years or more) you need birth certificate, social security card and 2 forms of residence verification such as an electric bill and water bill. If those are not in your name I am unsure if what else you can use, I think the person you live with needs to sign something.

On that question I'm not for sure but what I do know is if you're under 18 you're still considered a minor and none of that would really matter anyways cuz your parents are going to have to go with you and they're the ones that has to show all the proof that's how they did me with my daughter I had to show all the proof that was in my name where we lived and everything all she had to take was her school ID

Honestly I was never able to get anyone on the phone or my emails answered. However, that was me trying the garland office. Once I was at the plano office they were very kind and helpful. So, with the online scheduler, if you are trying it from a PC/Mac try using a different browser. Firefox worked perfectly. Chrome was good, MS Edge was terrible, IE doesn't work, Safari is okay. Hopefully that will help.

The Federal ID Law is now being applied, hence the change. Once one of the above is scanned into the Texas database, "supposedly" ... you'll never have to worry about it again. An original or certified copy of your birth certificate or passport... in other words is something showing citizenship or lawful presence in the United States, as well as two (2) documents with your physical address. they have to be dated within 90 days such as a utility bill or bank statement... also registration and insurance for each vehicle you own... the registration and insurance have to be for the state of Texas.... hope that helps.

Realistically it only takes about 10 minutes to renew a license at an office. The wait is long and the lines are long because of so many people, so few offices, and beause they wont staff the appropriate number of people in the offices. I called and checked online to try and get my license renewed a week ago, and this location does not offer services of setting up appointments over the phone or online. If they do, pretty sure you'll have to wait as long as everyone one else because its extremely slow, and not a lot of workers.

I hope you are asking about online test for learner's permit. As per my knowledge its mandate for people below 25 age... For 25+ age you can visit DPS submit documents and take an online test there at DPS itself to get your learners permit. However, I am not sure if same rules apply for green card holders.
