Incredible. Built when FDR was Governor, this place is a treasure of wealth. So much so you are left aghast as room after room unfold in front of you. A must see, worth the flight from UK alone.

Very beautiful experience, everything is very enjoyable.
If it's your first time here, expect to spend the whole day (from open to closing) perusing the exhibits and you'll still find something that you haven't had the chance to see the next time you come here.
If you have been here and come with a certain plan of shows you want to see, typically you'll spend a few hours here.
Its very challenging to park near the Museum. Street parking is available in certain areas nearby, but is in high demand. Always try to make the last few miles to the museum by foot or subway.
Pay-what-you-wish General Admission is available every day the Museum is open.
It gives access to 40+ permanent galleries, including the Rose Center for Earth and Space.
For admission to special exhibitions, films, and the Space Show, a +One or +All ticket is required. These can be purchased in advance on our website, or in person at the Museum.
https://ticketing.amnh.org/
The cost of a ticket depends on your donation. It is usually $ 22.50 per person for adults. It is less for children. Anything inside the museum is generally additional.
Yes, it's open every day the Museum is open (363 days per year). Please note that the 81st Street subway entrance is not wheelchair-accessible - the closest accessible station is 72nd street for the 1, 2, and 3 trains. Enjoy your visit!
https://www.amnh.org/plan-your-visit
We strongly recommend public transportation - it’s faster, easier, and better for the environment! However, parking is available at the 81st Street Entrance, between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. It's open from 8am-11pm.
Click on the "entrances and exits" tab on this page for more information: https://www.amnh.org/plan-your-visit
What are you allowed to bring to the museum? Since it states we would go through security check.

- Food or drink (water bottles permitted)
- Dogs or other pets (service animals permitted)

- Carrying children on shoulders
- Creating a disturbance, yelling, audible music devices

You can pay whatever you want, but it certainly is worth paying the full admission price. That being said, it can be expensive if you have a large family so you can pay whatever you can afford. Also, if you want to skip the lineups just download the app and buy your tickets in the app. You'll get an e-ticket which will get you into the exhibition halls immediately. But then you have to pay the full suggested amount.
Admission is at will, but there is a suggested donation of USD25, if you pay less you do not have access to some activities such as the Hayden planetarium.
My experience is the "price" is flexible. It is more like "donation". It recommend max donation is $23.
The staff told me you could donate less than this amount. How much is up to you. But I think you could ask.
However, it worth to donate for maintaining such an amazing museum.
Greetings. I want to know if in the history museum there is an option to use a wheelchair for a person with reduced mobility. Thanks for your contributions and answers.

Wheelchairs are available free of charge at the main entrance of Central Park West, and also at the entrance of the Rose Center for Earth and Space on 81st Street.
https://www.amnh.org/plan-your-visit/accessibility
There is a range of suggested prices for adults, children, students with school I'd and seniors. First Tuesdays of the month are free. If you cannot pay the suggested fee make a donation of your choosing. Place see their website for further details.
The B and C trains let you off right in front of the Museum - exit at 81st Street (keep in mind that the B only runs on weekdays, but the C runs seven days per week). You can also take the 1 train to 79th Street.
https://www.amnh.org/plan-your-visit
When you arrive, you'll see a security line that all visitors must use. Once you're past security, you'll see another line to buy tickets - feel free to skip that one!
Can you pay as little as 5 dollars per person and still get the tickets online to avoid staying in the line?
Thanks

No - pay-what-you-wish for General Admission only gives you access to the permanent halls, plus the Rose Center for Earth and Space. For the special exhibitions or the Space Show, full-price admission is required: https://ticketing.amnh.org/#/tickets
I doubt it. Regardless it's too crowded for a wheelchair make sure you come early in the morning or late in the afternoon because they got a busy security /ticket booth line and it'll be hard for someone with a wheelchair to go through it

Pay what you wish admission is available only at ticket counters, where the amount you pay is up to you. What you pay is what keeps this beautiful place up and running.
Well, For Americans living in the North East region of the United States of America, the auto club AAA (Triple A) offers bus trips regularly to New York City (aka.the greatest city on Earth) regularly. They feature rides to the metropolitan museum of art, the American museum of natural history and even a "day on your own" tour. They even will get you advanced purchased tickets to the featured attractions at both venues. It's convenient and helped us bypass the incredibly long lines at both venues. Its definitely worth looking into for the day visitor. BTW, the "Underground" is called the Subway in USA, FYI.
There is not. There is always a paid entrance. Tickets must be purchased online in advance via the website. Fortunately, the time is not important because it is not checked, the entry date is what counts. On
Keep in mind that only with specific paid admission can you see things like the planetarium and special exhibits as they are timed. I do not believe these things are included with donations
From the site and OFTEN OVERLOOKED: For NY, NJ, and CT residents (with ID)*: The amount you pay for General Admission *is up to you*
SO there is a suggested fee, BUT if you are a resident and can provide proof of it, you can pay what you desire. It EXCLUDES special exhibits though.
Why cant I get a live person to speak to when I phone ? The only option your automated system gives me is if can enter the name of a person to talk to and since I do not have a name I end up not being able to talk to anyone.

There were several items at souvenir shop, so you can check there out.
Something like "Pay what do you want" is to say you pay what you want, I clarify the normal price is like U$20 per person which allows you to enter the shows, but if you pay what you want you only enter the exhibitions and not the the shows
To get the most out of it, it might be beneficial to read a book or watch a documentary about dinosaurs before you go. The exhibits are very well done and highly informative, but more context may be useful.
Pay-what-you-wish ticketing is available for General Admission only (all permanent halls, plus the Rose Center for Earth and Space) and is available at the ticketing kiosks inside the Museum. Special exhibitions require full-price tickets (GA + One or GA + All) and can be purchased at the kiosks, or online in advance, at https://ticketing.amnh.org/#/tickets
Coats and small bags may be checked inside the Theodore Roosevelt Rotunda, inside the main entrance on Central Park West. There's another bag check at the Rose Center for Earth and Space, open from September - March only.
Luggage, small carry-ons, and oversized backpacks cannot be checked in the museum.
Take the B/C trains to 81st Street (note: the B train runs on weekdays only) or the 1 train to 79th Street. There is an entrance to the Museum inside the 81st Street B/C station, while the 79th Street station is two blocks west of the Musuem.
Note: the 81st Street and 79th street subway stations are not wheelchair accessible. The closest accessible subway station is the 72nd Street station for the 1, 2, and 3 trains, with a connection on the northbound M7 bus on Amsterdam Avenue.
Hello Asif, the Museum is dedicated to exploring the natural world: our planet, the abundance of life it supports, and humanity's search for knowledge in our solar system and beyond. We're celebrating our 150th anniversary this year, and we'd love to have you visit. You'll find more information here: https://www.amnh.org/about-the-museum
Non-motorized wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first served basis at the following entrances:
* Rose Center on 81st Street between Central Park West & Columbus
* Main entrance on Central Park West
* Parking garage
You can ask the security guards in each of these locations for help. Enjoy your visit!
Yes but very poorly organized. Nothing like the one portrayed in the movie. There is a majority of the museum dedicated to animals and pictures of various things. Maybe 10 percent dinosaurs. If I were you I would go for more than dinosaurs to not feel disappointed
The closest trains are the B and C, which let you off right outside the Museum - exit at 81st Street. You can also take the 1 train to 79th Street, which is a 5-10 minute walk.
You can pay what you want, in the Museo box, for admission to the permanent exhibitions only (General Admission). For special exhibitions, movies and Space Show, you need to buy full price tickets (General Admission + One, General Admission + All) - these can be purchased at the checkout or on the web.

Hi Gladys,
Thank you for supporting the museum! The Adult Membership you're referring to gives the member "plus one" privileges, meaning she can bring whomever she likes - every time she visits. So a single membership in your daughter's name will allow her to bring her boyfriend any time. If you'd like them to be able to visit whenever they like, independent of the other, then you could give them each a membership in their own name. Hope this helps.
Hi Dana, purchasing tickets in advance allows you to skip the ticket line when you arrive. Pay-what-you-wish admission, which includes all the permanent halls and the Rose Center for Earth and Space, is available at the ticket counters only. There are special exhibitions that require other ticket types (General Admission + 1, which includes all permanent galleries, plus one special exhibition, a giant-screen film, or the Space Show, or General Admission + All, which includes all of the above) These can be purchased in advance online, or at the ticket counters.

As of 11/21/18 adult pricing is.....
$33 for more than one scheduled special exhibition.....
$28 for one scheduled special exhibition...
or if you choose general admission only when asked if you will pay the suggested price of $23 anyone can politely name a new price and pay that amount.
There is no set price. There is an MSRP, which I think is $ 27 but I'm not sure. It seems to me that the ideal is to buy a package like the "NY pass" with access to various attractions. There is a good promotion that you buy 5 attractions and they give you 2 more. There you can include access to the Empire States, Top of Rock, Luna Park in Coney Island, the Big Bus, the Museum of Natural History, the Metropolitan Museum, Madame Tusaud, access to the Statue of Liberty ... among other.
Separately or at the door is much more expensive.

I would say on Fridays, because there are usually discounts in the evenings.
However the best time of day would be earlier in the day.
Because you will basically need an entire day to see many of the exhibits.
Also try to visit central park, especially Belverdia's castle and Shakespeare garden, best in the early afternoon.

Check there website for the Work time. But kids 8 and under are free. Anyone else though you pay any amount that you think is fair from $0 to there recommended amount which is $23.

The opening time is 10AM every day and closes everyday at 5:45PM
I have gone only once as a tourist. Spent 3 hours, paid as as I like but didn't went to see the exhibits. What I do recommend is to separate an entire day and be in line 15-30 min prior to opening. Once your in, start from the top floor down. (It will be crowded on the 1st floor when people start entering) This way you can enjoy everything on your own time and pace. If your near the area, you can always get a map and plan ahead with your luv ones. Hope this helps.
The butterfly conservatory is considered a special exhibit. You have to pay the original price of admission plus the price of the butterfly exhibit.
(Adult $28 / Child (2-12) $16.50 / Senior & Student $22.50). For an additional $5 you get the cost of admission to the museum, plus access to all of the special exhibits. Hope this helps.
The prices are posted as approximately $23... but it is a "pay what you want system. If you want to pay $1, you can still get tickets at the main ticket desk.
For the museum only, you pay what you want. It could be as low as one dollar for the three of you. Fir the pkanitarium movie, you have to pay the set price (about $22)
Don't know of any VIP entrance. But if you're a member you can go to the main entrance at 81st st between Central Park West and Columbus Ave. For some special events you can enter at 77th street or the central park west ground entrance. If that's what you're referencing.
You can pay whatever you'd like for general admission. But there are special exhibits like the planetarium that you won't be able to see without paying full price ($23) plus the added price of the exhibit ($5 - $10). It's cheaper if you're a student, senior, young kid etc.
If you are out of state 23$ for adults $10 for children then their special pricing on movies in exhibitions but if you are in New York State its donation based
You dont have to order any food there. You pay threw the nose for a sandwich there. Better off eat something before going thereyou be a fool to get something to eat there. You pay double for a sandwich you get at a store
I think that if it is necessary because you see that you are inside everything is so interesting that you do not realize the time that one pads in. It took me sim to lie for 3 to 3 hours and mesday to see it full visitalo you will not regret it
Anytime I've attended special exhibits or movies I have bought the package, I'm not sure how much is each special exhibit, but minimally $8 if I remember correctly
You can do it, but it's a far walk! Penn Station is at W34th St whereas the museum is W77th St. Then you have to walk an avenue over, which is about three "regular" blocks. Personally, its worth the metrocard fare
No stroller rentals if possible bring the lightest umbrella stroller as it gets really packed with people on the elevator and you will wind up using the stairs instead. So a lighter stroller will be less burden on your arms.
Yes you can! You can pay whatever amount you'd like. The suggested amount is $23 USD per person. The special exhibitions like the butterfly house, cost extra. I did all four special exhibitions (butterfly house, senses, space, and flight) for a total of $33USD each. I really enjoyed the butterfly house but I think the other special exhibitions are more enjoyable for little kids. I think the special exhibitions are always changing.
If one pays in the automatic kiosks, the entrance is $ 23 dollars. To pay less, enter where are the employees who receive any amount offered without issues. It is convenient to take tickets for special samples that one can go, at that moment
Many websites are suggesting that if I don't pay the general admission ($23 p/p), that I won't have access to most of the exhibitions. Is this true? Is there a list somewhere that will show me all exhibitions covered under the donation fee?

When i went there last week the special shows on offer covered were a)A show in the planetarium about dark matter b) An exhibit on mummies c) A IMAX film on the flight of birds d) A room with little games to teach us about of senses e) A show on butterflies.
With the snow storm today, will the Museum be open?
At the ticket counter a "pay-what-you-wish" admission is available every day. With this option you can get a general admission ticket that includes all museum halls but does not include special exhibitions, giant screen film or space show.
Take your student id with you and the recommended $18 is what you could pay. Age is not an issue if you are currently a student with a valid id that is not expired then you should be good
There is an expensive garage under the museum, its great if you have a large slow group, lots of kids and their grandparents, we've used it with out of town friends, but mostly just take the subway from wherever, there is a Subway entrance in the museum, very convenient
We had went to the museum but couldn't get to that exhibit because we had no idea where we where going and there was something going on in the second floor
Dinosaur buffs and posh bridezillas will definitely agree on one thing: The American Museum of Natural History is an uh-mazing place to hold a wedding. With the ridonkulous backdrop of the Rose Planetarium and (weather permitting) the Arthur Ross Terrace for cocktails, a wedding day there would live on for eternity—as would paying off the bill. For starters, anyone who wants to get married there must pay a flat $3500Patron Membership donation fee. Also required is the museum admission (which is basically the room rental fee) of $11,000, plus an additional $1000 if you're using the Terrace. Don't forget that your guests need to eat and drink, so factor in $235, plus tax, per person for the food and $52, plus tax, per person for the booze. Just to keep things in perspective, though: It's still a bargain compared to the Plaza.

Regular admission is 25 dollars and seniors and students pay 18, but that is a suggested price, when you get to the entrance of museums in NY they ask you if you accept to pay that price and if you want you can pay less.
For the entry you give what you want up to 1 dollar, the values it says (for example adult: $ 23 students, $ 18) are only suggested to enter whatever you want
However there are special exhibitions which are corduroy to part, as would be the mummies.
About the New York Pass, if you have access, in the brochure that you are given in the entry, specify it.
