Pay-what-you-wish General Admission is available every day the Museum is open. It gives access to 40+ permanent galleries, including the Rose Center for Earth and Space. For admission to special exhibitions, films, and the Space Show, a +One or +All ticket is required. It's technically ALWAYS free as it takes donations even tho there is a posted price. Extra tickets for exhibits like the butterfly or TRrx are $5 to $15.

No, it is not. It is free on the first Tuesday of each month. However, the entrance fee is a suggested donation. You can pay as you wish. Last weekend, my husband and I paid $5 for both of us.
