If we "pay what we want" for our family and then decide to see a show, how much more per person is that? Tried calling the museum directly but it's all automated.

If you pay what you want, only get access to free exhibits, if you want go to a show you need paid.

The pricing is similar to the Franklin Institute: there are free exhibits & separate ticketed exibitions. For example the Dark Universe (playing in the planetarium sphere) & deep oceans (a special section on the 4th floor). These 2 have a separate ticketed price.
