This is still being developed. Long time ago there used to be a bar Azusa Canyon bar and a really nice restaurant. The bar was torn down years ago, I met my ex husband there in 1980. We were married 21 years, good memories. Now a developing park area with No Access to the water! I walked the service road about a mile not sure how far it going easy hike. Beautiful views of the mountains and what water there currently is. Enjoy and pick up after yourself. Don’t leave out mountains trashy! Thanks

Update March 2021
It' OPEN - 🤗
This is a a wonderful Wilderness Park.
It's a short walk. You could do this on your lunch break. Which is what I would do if I lived in the area cuz it's just really pretty and peaceful here.
There's plenty parking available. One of the pictures shows their vision for the future for this beautiful wilderness Park. Enjoy !!!!
Temporarily Closed
5 Stars bc I'm sure it is an awesome park
Good 411 at the entrance
Will edit the review w/more details when they reopen
The river of Azusa is a very beautiful place but they should give fines to dirty people who go and do not pick up their own garbage and they play the music at full volume they do not let them enjoy how beautiful nature is,
You need Wilderness pass after the first bridge all the way up highway 39 to mile marker 38.2 witch is end of the road do to permanent closure. But not on East fork road and GMR . Get a Wilderness pass at ampm. or any of the stores going up Azusa avenue
Not at this location. Conditions are dangerous due to the river being below dams that can release water with no warning. There is NO river access at the Azusa Wilderness Park. You can get to the river by driving 10-15 miles north up Highway 39 (past the dams) to either the West Fork or the East Fork.
Yes, of course a leash is required & it is bear season, watch for coyotees & mountain lions, carry a walking stick or mase... The water will be very enjoyable though...
No. You do not need a parking pass if you go to the Azusa River Wilderness Park. If you go other places along the San Gabriel River ("the mountains") you will need one. But for this specific place, NO.
No, you are looking for the San Gabriel River and there is no access to the water in Azusa. If you are looking for access to mountain water, a good recommendation is “Oaks Picnic Area”.
The sign at the entrance said it was closed due to the threat of adverse conditions, ie; wildfires, etc. I would call the Park Service because they're the ones who will decide. I would imagine some time in the spring as long as the area is stable. One of the photos in my review includes a phone number to call for park/preserve info.
Is a nice place but they need more trashcans and also steps to go down to the river and of course people need to be kind with they trash.

Yes definitely more trash can's will help out ..plus if all the people will put some type of effort on maintaining the place clean pick up after yourself that will really be helpful too ..other than that the river it's awesome
Does anyone know if it is open orita?

Azusa Wilderness Park | Aug 22, 2020
There is no river access at Azusa River Wilderness Park due to dangerous conditions. If you want to access the river, go 13 miles north on highway 39 to either the East Fork or West Fork in the Angeles National Forest.
I know a place in Ventura at an hour and 20 minutes from Los Angeles, it's called Foster Park. There you can make your roasted cards and bathe in the river. Admission is $ 5. It is a small but nice place to spend as a family. Whenever I've been on Saturdays there are not many people and the water is not cold. If you do not mind driving 1:20 I recommend it you'll love it.
Swimming is not safe or allowed at 100 Old San Gabriel Canyon Road due to location below dams. There are locations where swimming is safe and accessible in the Angeles National Forest above the dams. The Oaks Picnic Area is a popular destination.
hello, good afternoon, someone who can tell me where the car is left, one has to walk a lot to get to the river, I ask because I have a small child or can I use a stroller to carry it

No caminas mucho aproximadamente como máximo unos 100 metros o menos y tu carro lo parqueas a la orilla de la carretera hay suficiente espacio buena suerte cuando bayas
Hello community. 👋 can anyone let me know what's the closest point or nearest to the access point, to find a creek or water areas for the kids.

there is flash flood warning today July 26 ,2021 is that true on Azusa river California

Johnathan Perisho | Aug 22, 2021
The river to reference is the San Gabriel River, and there is a warning in effect today. Azusa is the name of the canyon and the city where the park is located.
I'm not sure about actually cooking. I know there was a campground. Patrol cruise up and down Azusa . hold your he's at 35 miles per hour from the freeway.
It is my first time that I go the first exit to the river, they charge access and I think everything is close. I went further up past the dam, there is a place that does not run much water and it is cold, it is close to the street 100 feet.
If everything else opening why can't they open the campsites.
sylvia galvan | Aug 22, 2021
Johnathan Perisho | Aug 22, 2021
There are no campsites at River Wilderness Park located at 100 N Old San Gabriel Canyon Road.
Why are they closed on weekends. If they charge that would be a very big lost for the park.
Vicente Herrera | Aug 22, 2021
Johnathan Perisho | Aug 22, 2021
There is no charge for park access, however, staff and ranger services have been stretched thin through Covid responses. Particularly this time of year dam releases are likely to be more regular and there are challenges with people trying to access the water in this stretch despite being prohibited—search and rescue crews have had to go out here.
Actually this area is located 40 miles north of Long Beach..and I'm sure a telescope is probably better in the evening sky to look at.
I'm no expert with telescope but looked thru a telescope a couple of times in the deseret & mountains.
Surely a great experience for me & I'm sure your granddaughter will have a great time with her Christmas present from Santa.
The Bobcat fire is burning close to all access points to the San Gabriel River in the US National Forest. There are complete closures at this time. Additionally, there is never river access at 100 N Old San Gabriel Canyon Road due to location below Morris Dam and the danger presented by sudden changes in water level and velocity.
Is the river going to be open tomorrow or will it be closed due to the fires
Samuel Flores | Aug 22, 2021
Johnathan Perisho | Aug 22, 2021
The week-long closure of all national forests in California will be over tomorrow Monday 9/14. There may be road access to locations where the San Gabriel River can be accessed. However, there is never river access at 100 N Old San Gabriel Canyon Road due to location below Morris Dam where releases can create sudden changes in water level and velocity. Do not risk friends and family there. Additionally, air quality is still significantly compromised and limiting outdoor exposure at this time may be strongly recommended.
Is this hike open today? (As of September 8, Tuesday 2020)
Katrina Ligon | Aug 22, 2021
Johnathan Perisho | Aug 22, 2021
Due to intense weather and fire in the vicinity the road up into the canyon is temporarily closed.
Do you know if the way is open to go up today or tomorrow?

The truth would not know how to give this information
No. You can never access the river at the Azusa River Wilderness Park due to dangerous conditions. If you want to go into the river, drive 10 miles north on Highway 39, into the Angeles National Forest and past the dams, to either the East or West Fork.
Hello, is this place open? What on the map is it temporarily closed?
Ruby Saturnino | Aug 22, 2020
SUSANA HERNADEZ | Aug 22, 2020
It's closed I went last week and if it's closed
Im planning to go this weekend, can I get in the water?
George Albert | Aug 22, 2020
Drew Tuazon | Aug 22, 2020
No, you need to go more up in the mountains if you wanna soak in the water. Try to go to the bridge to nowhere. If you want to be in the water, but make sure you have a parking permit otherwise your car will get towed. Also, you have to go in early otherwise you will walk and hike at the same time to reach the river.
Is cramping open?

Elizz | Aug 22, 2020
Franklin Velásquez | Aug 22, 2020
They do not charge or parking or entrance and if you can camp
There is no admission fee for the Azusa River Wilderness Park.
NOTE: There is no river access at this location. If you want to access the river, you must drive further north into the Angeles National Forest. Parking in the forest requires a $5 day pass.
No. The Azusa River Wilderness Park never has river access due to dangerous conditions. If you want to access the river you have to drive 12 miles north up Highway 39 into the Angeles National Forest.
Hello I just have a quick question is the river going to open , Saturday , 4th July ??
Rosy Aguilar | Aug 22, 2020
Azusa Wilderness Park | Aug 22, 2020
Azusa River Wilderness Park (at 100 N Old San Gabriel Canyon Road) will be closed this 4th of July weekend for fire safety. Outdoor access may be available at other locations. Enjoy the holiday and whatever your plans may be, please recreate responsibly!
Are there open Saturday July 4?
Celso Mas | Aug 22, 2020
Azusa Wilderness Park | Aug 22, 2020
The River Wilderness Park will be closed for July 4th Weekend (Friday-Sunday).
Open for hiking on regular hours. If you are looking for river access you can head further north into the San Gabriel National Monument, see maps of destinations under photos.
There is no river access at River Wilderness Park at 100 N Old San Gabriel Canyon Road, but there are points for water access further into the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument at the East and West Forks. You can see a map of locations in photos.
If you mean raft, then no. There is no river access due to dangerous conditions. You can access the river 12 miles north of the park at the East or West Fork.

Is there poison oak near the trail?
yeet i guess | Aug 22, 2020
FERNIE BARRERA SR | Aug 22, 2020
Poison oak grows wild everywhere especially in summer .keep on a lookout
No grilling or fires of any kind this is a Federal National monument area. Wildfire danger is very high.
Going into the water is risky lots of trash, dirty diapers etc.
No. Fires are not permitted and neither are grills. It is a Federal National Park and especially this time of year any fires in any forest are a safety hazzard.
Can we camp there and do they charge?

Is there water or is there a littel bit of water because I went last time there was a littel and we could not swim
Kinggolden Bryan | Aug 23, 2019
JERRY G | Aug 23, 2019
Not a lot of water remains.
Swimming is Not allowed.
In the river I'm not sure it's allowed. But in the lake if it is allowed. The river is an area with very difficult terrain to traverse due to overgrown bushes and nopales. It would be difficult and dangerous. Also a lot of it is just streams... Nothing big, not big enough to be able to fish
ive seen bears, raccoons, squirls, bob cats, and mountain lions. There is a a large pack of wild dogs around that area, they ran right past me didnt even acknowledge me.
There they do not charge, they charge in the place where you enter with a 4 X4 truck but there you look at the entrance to those who are in a booth only there they charge you, otherwise parking on the side of the road, they do not allow charcoal grills you must be gas although there are people who carry but can give you a ticket
